The my x>your x culture is certainly rather prominent on the internet, sports is just another part of that. I have to admit it is pretty funny seeing people blindly hate on things they clearly know nothing about.

I think this image just about sums up the arguments of those people.
Spoiler:

Anime is a really big part of that.

Some people have a horrible tendency to criticize sports whenever they get a chance. I think we can all agree that these people are annoying or rude.

@Pokey, they want sports to go die in a hole. These people are the pragmatics who think that sports are a waste of time.

Now as for me, I don't really have any reason to be involved in sports, but I respect the people who are. It's probably enjoyable for those people, and they get exercise.
It's not really much different than people who do the same for anime or video games they don't like, which is half the reason I don't visit the former's forum.

Nor is it as if people don't have a reason for feeling this way. Of course, there will be your trolls and you bandwagoners, but there will always, ALWAYS be more sports fans than there are sports haters. Always. No exceptions. The internet is but a vocal minority, and given that 9 times out of 10 you're going to meet someone who liked sports anywhere in the world, the internet's pretty much the only place people can vent. Because it's so ingrained in general culture worldwide that it's practically inescapable. Especially growing up, because in the same light, you're 99% more likely to be born into a family that's into sports than not. And if they don't force you to play, the education system will.

So it's not like it doesn't make sense. People like to be heard by people who have similar mindsets, and they also like to vent at the people who enjoy them on the internet because that's the only time when people can say such things without being berated. And I know this because I was a more vocal hater of sports when I was younger because I couldn't do anything about it. Today, I'm indifferent to most sports and repress my annoyance with overpriced tickets/overpayed athletes and hatred for various sports (Football and Baseball, for various reasons), among other things. Because I believe that people can like what they like, just that they shouldn't force others to feel the same way. Plus I now have a pretty broad view of what a sport is.

...Though it does bother me when people get elitist over what qualifies as a sport and what doesn't. That I will be vocal about. But do you know what REALLY pisses me off? That fact that I had something to say and that my internet decided to go on for an hour, so by the time I post this we'll probably be in the hundreds, I'll have to edit the damn number, and I'll have missed the entire ****ing conversation, which pisses me off because this is something I actually like to talk about, especially with people on both sides of the fence (and on the fence) which, for me, is a very rare occurrence. And I won't edit this because I'm sick of this damn internet going out every five seconds.

I agree with most of what you said.

Anime is a really big part of that.

Spoiler:

My stepfather and stepbrother are deeply obsessed with American Football/Handegg, even though we're Asian. But it doesn't really affect me, and sometimes I do my homework in front of a football game because my stepfather asks me too.

It's better to stay indifferent or respectfully abstinent about sports than to rant about or demote a them with no feasible goal.

And I think web surfing is a sport.

But we're getting too intense for DLTMS0. Reset.

I'm a sportsfag, partial understanding like that is not enough. Reading up and then actively looking for things I have learned in the game is a much more solid way of understanding the sport more quickly.

Which team do you follow Don?

I follow a team that chokes under pressure in the Minnesota Vikings.

I watch sports, but I don't like playing them.

Anyways expecting lots of trap Kirito doujins later. Traps seem to be in a weird spot in the internet lol.

Also yes. Pokemon, Football, and Sports. All in one clip. Thanks macho man.

Harems belong in the imaginations of people who like them. Reverse harems are more fun tho. More dorama.

I expect a lot of Rule 63. And they better deliver, dammit.

But as for sports, I'm more of a Playing > Watching guy. Inazuma Eleven kinda made me realize that it can indeed be exciting stuff, and I see why people get excited, but I think the only way I could get excited about something like that myself is if I were taking part in it or if it were really ridiculous.

Uh-not always, though. It depends on the sport.
