I had no idea there was some correlation between that number and that character from a film I haven't seen.
Yeah, Nisekoi is pretty mediocre-fun. I was excited about the manga when I first started reading it, but then the curse of the romcom status quo made itself way too obvious. Shaft's adaptation looks and sounds really nice. I should finish it.
But yeah. Though I really do have to wonder why so many authors find "5 year old love stories" so attractive. Apart from being mostly unrealistic and definitely not personal to the author, they've always made me groan. It works to some extent in Nisekoi because of the keys and whatnot, but it still does get to me a number of times.
It makes it easy to establish a meaningful romantic connection without any actual effort. Especially when it's unknown who this "fated partner" it is and it's a harem setting. It could be any and every girl, and therefore the girls all being in love with the poor lad somehow doesn't seem as convoluted. It also makes for some easy dorama development, and when the "two" finally get together it feels much more meaningful than plain and simple "first girl wins". Because destiny says so.
