To some people, story matters more than gameplay

Look at Call of Duty, Madden, FIFA...

Repetitive gameplay, still sells millions

This, basically.
That'd be great if Pokemon ever had a story worth writing home about. Pokestick pretty much hit the nail on the head. There are plenty of games I would accept that for, but you don't really see a lot of people playing Pokemon for the story, and even in the game where it was "good" (BW), it was really only good by Pokemon's standards, so it's not saying much. Same formula, and despite N it's still a pretty generic team (in fact, without N that's all they are).

I mean, if you're looking to Pokemon for story, there are innumerable games of any genre out there that I could point you to that do it better. People can play for story over gameplay, but for Pokemon I'd find it very hard to believe people disregard repetitiveness (the gameplay) for more repetitiveness (the formula).

That is actually just candy floss.

In ORAS it appears they've finally realized how to pull off cutscenes and give characters emotions, so if we're lucky the generation 7 games might actually get even better in this regard. Just applying ORAS' storytelling to BW's plot would do wondrous things.

Yeah, true enough. Really, Generation 7's playing field has been set, and it could be rather ambitious and bring us the best generation of Pokemon to date.

That, or it'll be the generation 4 of Pokemon and we'll have to wait a few generations and almost 10 years for something worthwhile. I do see a lot of potential, though; I always have. Can't say I'd be so adamant about this if I didn't care, but gen 5 and especially gen 6 really give me hope that Pokemon can be something worthwhile.

We'll see, though.

Moveset:
DESTROY OPPONENT
PERISH SONG
MEAN LOOK
MAXIMIZE STATS
MORE THAN FOUR MOVES LOL UMAD?

Mega Magikarp

All base stats are 200

Ability: "Magikarp"
Any two turn move (solar beam, hyper beam, blast burn, hydro cannon, frenzy plant, skull bash, focus punch, geomancy, etc) now fires on first move and requires no recharge between uses
All moves are given top priority

Gains four new moves

Physical: Has a base power of 250; 100% accuracy - ignores 75% of opponents defense
Special: Has a base power of 250; 100% accuracy - ignores 75% of opponents special defense
Status: Inflicts paralysis, burn, poison, sleep, frozen and confusion
Status-self: Raises one stat three stages

Primal Arceus' base stats are even higher than that and his Physical and Special moves have a base power of 144,000,000

In my headcanon, Primal Reversion is what happens to pokemon who can't control their Mega Evolution power and they go berserk

And Mega Magikarp is immune to absolutely everything, except Mega Magikarp.

...And at the end of a Gen VII game, you fight Animé gary, who has much more than 10 badges at this point and he has the strongest Mega Magikarp who ever lived.
