I can't stand that ****. If I'm talking to someone I don't know, I will politely ask them to type correctly. If they refuse and want to try and badger me online, I'll just ignore you. Simple and easy. If it's someone I know... well. They should know better than to talk to me using that filth.
In my opinion, it's weakening peoples grammar and level of intelligence. Seriously, the first time you hear someone go LOL in person, you'll be dumb struck. I had no idea what to think when I heard that. Why is it so hard to spell out your words or use proper grammar and punctuation? I use it whether I'm here on the forums, talking over an instant message, in an email or through text messaging.
It really isn't hard and I wish people would stop taking short cuts. At the MOST it cuts off what, a few seconds? It's not cute, it's not funny and it only makes you look stupid. So come on people, take those few extra seconds and at least give the appearance you are an intelligent human being.
Granted, I will use smiles and the such, and occasionally emote (IE. *rubs the back of his head*) but it's only because it's hard to convey proper emotion over the internet. That, and I enjoy role playing, so emoting in my opinion, is not 'text language'. :P
