Do you speak another language?

Do you speak any languages other than English? How did you learn these languages, or is English not your first language? How well do you speak the other language(s)?

For me, I speak Spanish rather well. I took 5 Spanish classes while I was in high school. I also listen mostly to music in Spanish, so that keeps me fresh with the language.

I've had so many goes at learning a variety of languages... Latin, German, Japanese, Spanish... I just fail miserably at learning languages apparently. But I do hope to change that what with the efforts I am putting forth to learn Welsh as of late! From all of the languages I have studied I can generally pick out various words and phrases and sometimes get the gist of simple sentences. The knowledge just sticks a bit.

I'm currently learning Japanese through university, as I loved Japan when I went over there (such kind people! The Shinto temples are amazing and just the general culture of the place is stunning). Next year I'm taking units in French as well, which would be useful to have in Canada. Aside from those two I only speak English (though I'm interested in learning Spanish to be able to speak to Mexicans while in LA).

I used to be able to speak French pretty well when I was taking classes on it, but I can only come up with half-jumbled sentences when I try to speak or write it now. When I read in French or even listen to someone speaking it, I understand it nearly as well as I do English, though (I even watched French TV shows from time to time, and my sister would complain and force me to change the channel when I did).

I'd become quite fluent at Spanish. Quite fluent, although lately I've dropped off a bit. I am taking a class at the moment, but I'm far ahead of everybody else and I'm doing everything that I already know. I think I might order some TV shows to watch; or just change the language when watching movies I already have.

I would like learn German, and I should be able to start very soon. I already know some vulgar phrases, but I'm not sure that's where I want to be.

Later in life I would definitely like to learn another language, or multiple others, such as French or Japanese.

I've never been good with languages. I can't remember any of my secondary school French and I can't even remember if I learnt Spanish or Italian in primary school :x
However recently I started learning Welsh just like TheSmartOne and I'm doing a lot better than I've done in the past seeing as I can still remember words x3 I'm just having trouble fitting in time for lessons.

My native language is Greek. I love other languages and so I learned English and got my language degree on 13. Then I learned Italian and got the degree at 17. I can speak these two languages rather fluently.

I also learned Japanese up to a good point-mostly speaking, not writing-through anime, rofl.

I can speak Cambodian, since it's my Nationality. But due to being born in Australia, English was my first language surprisingly. When I was younger, I wasn't very good at speaking Cambodian and I had only learnt how to understand it, yet I was unable to actually speak Cambodian.

To be honest, it's only been the last couple of years or so I've learnt to talk more fluently in Cambodian due to spending more time around my parents and having to be their interpreter sometimes.

I know Polish and English, learning German. I also know how to read cyrillic but I don't speak Russian very well.

Formally I can only speak basic Spanish, as my second language, as that's the only language I've taken any serious instruction in but only because I was required to do so. I could probably do ok if I were surrounded by Spanish speakers who understood English roughly...and could help me a little. Basically it's no more than a tourist's grasp of the language, and it's all I cared to learn. I wanted Japanese in High School, but they never did have that class, probably due to lack of people wanting it and lack of decent teachers. We had a foreign exchange program, but it was with a German school...so I never bothered...and I didn't take German anyway.

Unofficially, I know a bit of Japanese and can pick out a few words here and there...but I doubt I could speak it very well, if at all...it seems I still don't get the gist of it yet. I do want to learn it though...and I would go to great lengths to learn it if I could, but I never did find a school that I could do so in.

I know a little French. I took two years of it in high school and am taking it again this semester in uni. I can read it much better than I can comprehend it or speak it, though.

I speak French pretty well. I took it for five years in high school with the most wonderful teacher ever you could ever hope for and I came first in the class every year. Not that I'm bragging or anything, but yeah I rocked that class :P

As well as the aforementioned sarcasm and irony, I'm not too bad at French. Indeed, if I ever go to France, the language all comes flowing back after a day or two. If I were to say something now, however, I could manage a 'Bonjour' and that's about it.
