Do you think it will stop?

    Personally, in my opinion, Pokemon will never die. It has way too much money and the guys there at Pokemon HQ are having more and more brainstorms. Plus, financially, Pokemon is about as rich as Bill Gates. The kids watch the show $$$$, when they get older they play the game $$$$, When there kids get into it $$$$. It will never die and quite frankly, that's cool with me.
     
    No, I don't think it'll ever die. There'll always be a bunch of people that'll love it. The problem lies with Nintendo/GameFreak. They can't keep making the same things over and over again. I mean, the storyline in which the trainer gets a starter Pokemon, the trainer beats Gym Leaders, the trainer beats The Elite Four and becomes Champion is beginning to wear thin. Also, looking at the third and fourth generation, if there's a fifth generation or ever a sixth generation, the Pokemon will not seem very original. No, Pokemon won't die, but will it ever reach the peak it had in the era of Gold, Silver and Crystal? I don't think so.
     
    Cancelling Pokemon would be completely necessary. Although it's sad to think about, it has gone to the bottom of the hill, and there's no way to bring it back up again. It would be utterly stupid to stop the game, the game makes them loads of buckaroos. XD And the games seem to just keep getting better. But the show is seeming to get less of its viewers. And although it just seems weird to stop the show, I mean, the show has been with us for most of our lives, it needs to stop. I don't know how it will affect the game, or, should I mention, the forums. I mean, what would happen to PC once the show did get cancelled? But, although it's one of the saddest things I've ever had to admit, it's time for the Pokemon series to finally come to a close.
     
    I think that it won't die as long as they have fresh material. I agree that they need to change the game format, but it is kind of like The Legend of Zelda, if it isn't broken, don't fix it. Zelda has been extremely profitable for 20+ years with the same 8 dungeon save the princess basis. Needless to say, I love Zelda and Pokemon although they are repetitive. Why would Gamefreak change the format when plenty of people, me included, would buy the game even though it is repetitive? Thats just my two cents

    Ironically, D/P outsold the second generation. =P

    Frankly, I think Pokemon has a lot of life in it - maybe even up to three more generations or so. I don't think it'll never die (insofar as Nintendo making more games for it), though.

    I am aware of that, Mags. I was trying to get across the message that Pokemon was cool back then, when people bought Pikachu dolls as birthday presents, when all the cool kids played the trading card game. Pokemon will never be able to reach that Status Quo among children ever again, in my opinion. At least people back then admitted to buying the newest Pokemon game, actually, they were proud of it. Now I know loads of people (myself included) that will not admit to owning Diamond or Pearl, let alone liking Pokemon.

    Anyway, I think that as long as they keep coming out with different systems, the Pokemon games will thrive. Though, as Oni said, the plot of the GB/GBA/DS games seem to be getting old. :/
     
    Well, it's impossible for it to go on forever. Like all franchises it will eventually die. Sure people may still go on talking about it, and there'll be a few forums online still active like this one, but as soon as Nintendo gets less money from it, they'll stop with the games and come up with a new trend to take its place.

    Personally, I'd guess this could happen by the end of Gen 5 (and by "end", I mean after they've made a trio of handheld games, a few spin-offs, and one or two console games). They got too much money off D/P to end it now, but who knows what'll happen next time around? Maybe it will keep going. Maybe not. After all, it's getting a little bit old, you have to admit. Nintendo's concern isn't with us anymore. It's with the younger kids who buy/will buy more of it. So, no matter how much we keep playing/watching/hoping, when the 7 though 11 year olds get bored, Pokemon goes down the drain. At least, that's what I think will happen.
     
    Well its gonna die sometime, but otherwise they should start a whole new way for pokemon to start over again with a all new 151 pokemon and cannot trade from the DS games or gba and can be never mention from the old games. (if you guys know wut i mean) :]
     
    Even though nobody would like this, Pokemon will stop sometime....Every good thing ends sometime, and unfortunetly pokemon will be one of those things......

    But sure thing, Pokemon will be put in the history books as one of the most popular series ever
     
    The games might carry on, but I think the anime would come to an end sooner then the games.
     
    why do you say they play the game when they get older, most people I know played the game from like 6-7 and never watched the show
     
    To me Pokemon is like one of the superpowers of the game industry, like Mario and Zelda. Yeah, someday they'll stop making games for those series, but will people forget them? No. To the true fans, they'll be popular forevermore, even if, like, thirty years from now D/P is considered 'retro' or something like that. So just because the franchise will come to an end someday, doesn't mean the fans have to stop liking the series.
     
    The anime will stop when the ratings get low in Japan. The US version might stop even sooner if ours fall sooner than the Japan's.

    But The games will carry on. Just like Zelda has been the same game since the first NES game and I still play them. But in my opinion the number of pokemon has to stop increasing, its getting harder to keep track of what evolves into what and just the names in general now that they keep adding more.
     
    Maybe pokemon will evolve (lol no pun intended) into a new or different series. I know Bionicles did.

    It's probably going to go with the times.
