Um... is it just me, or has this thread turned into a parlimentary session before an election? Guys, chill. Dawn's going, and that is that. Some people hate her, some people don't, but the decision rest with the producers, and if history is anything to go by (which it is), Dawn will leave. I just hope they release a new game beforehand or we will be taking another trip into... The Filler Zone! (DUN, DUN, DUN) (memories of Orange Island & Battle Frontier come to mind). When Dawn leaves, I would like to see Conway fill the hole, cause he reminds me a bit of Tracy. I would also like to see Team Rockect bring back thier old themesong too, but lets not get off topic. The bottom line: Dawn will be on the next bus to the back of our minds when the DP saga draws to a close.

Two of their Pokemon are birds? Different bird species, different types, with different and completely polar opposite fanbases. (Whereas everyone thinks Torchic was absolutely badass - which it was, ESPECIALLY as a Combusken, Piplup is just annoying, overused, a camera hog, and a complete Wesley.) This comparison makes it look like you're digging for something to tie the two together. Yes, they're similar; stupid, inexperienced Co-Ordinators, poor role models for young women in society (omg kids, wear 3-inch skirts at 10! You'll be popular!), and have the most ridiculously perverted male fanbases ever, but just because Misty's a better character and a better role model doesn't mean they can't just make another character who people gravitate towards like Misty. It's not impossible. We don't need Misty back; that's not even what this topic is about, keep in mind. Frankly, I'd be happy with May back as long as Dawn wasn't there; at least May cleaned up her act and became a tolerable character in the tailend of Hoenn and subsequently the Battle Frontier; Dawn has probably lost more Contests in one region than May has in both the regions we saw her compete in COMBINED and she shows no signs of growth or definitive character development that May showed (Oh, maybe I shouldn't be smug and overconfident...! Oh, wait, where have I seen this mentality before?). I just want her gone. Misty being back would be great, but honestly, it's highly unlikely. Her replacement could be better than Misty (God forbid I convince you or anyone of this); hell, just be better than Dawn.

Considering how the writers are currently under the mindset that girls have to be eyecandy or they're nothing, the Gen V girl will only be more similar to May and Dawn. If they truly thought that the girl main character should act more similar to Misty in terms of role-models, they would have done it with Dawn. They even admitted that the primary reason why they removed Misty was because of wanting to make new eye-candy to make boys lustful in WPM's article (and a similar article involving one of the original series writers.). To be honest, regardless of whether I want it or not [and my view is definitely on the latter], I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to include a nude scene with Gen V, and make the Gen VI character [if it does indeed exist] a nudist bimbo, especially how close to the fringe DP has gone. I think DP is actually the first series/saga to actually remove a Boss fantasy for questionable content [the whole Honey Giovanni scene.].

I honestly don't think anyone will disagree with you that, out of the three female protagonists, Misty is clearly head and shoulders above May and Dawn. The problem we have is the fact that you go to such unnecessary lengths to prove what is not just a point, but is fact, and you paint it out to be that until Misty returns (which, despite your delusions, is extremely unlikely to happen), the show is incomplete. You also back your arguments with ludicrous "evidence" that makes them extremely difficult to take seriously or even relate to the topic at hand.

Back during the days before the revolutionary war, most people also viewed the Sons of Liberty's attempts to break away from Great Britain as being extremely unlikely to work, and that was primarily due to the fact that we were fighting against the most powerful military might at the time.

Of course every replacement is absolutely necessary. We'll wait two years before Salamence is the new mascot of the brand and the new hero, Cinder Mustard is travelling with his friends Wator and Burna across the Rakatasanamasa region to become a Pokemon master fill the slot of the main hero until Flare Relish takes his place.

Well, at least you seem to understand what I'm trying to get at, or was that a joke?

Keeping things where they are kinda works. Sorry if marketing's favorite phrase is "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" and, regardless of what anyone believes, the pitch of Pokemon isn't broken. Muddled? Maybe. Broken? Not in the least bit. A kid with an electric mouse goes to beat a bunch of scary boss figures for trinkets and goes to the big leagues only to fail. It's worked 4 times before--for 15 years, almost--and it doesn't seem to be losing steam now.

I'm going to have to analyze the Japanese ratings for Pokemon, but I'm pretty sure that the ratings indicate that it is in fact losing steam. Plus, the whole contest thing is already getting a lot of complaints, anyways.

She's also kind of a Gym Leader, who, you know, doesn't travel.

Brock is also kind of a Gym Leader, as well, and guess what, he does travel. And anyways, as I and a few people have said countless times before, Misty simply cannot reach her goal of becoming a Water Pokemon Master by being a Gym Leader. Otherwise, Ash would have quit his journey, travelled back to Pallet Town, established a Gym, and became a Gym Leader. Better yet, he'd actually accept the offer of becoming a Frontier Brain instead of rejecting it.

She means that if your crazy idea of a petition works, she'd do that. Frankly, I don't blame her.

There is probably already some ridiculous internet petition going to get her back on the show. I am willing to put money on the fact that it's been going for the better part of 5 years now.

To make an obscure reference to how successful petitions are, I advise you to take a look at how successful the dislike button's been on Facebook.

Spoiler:

So, I guess our desires for the independence of America, our desires for a slavery-abolished society, our desires for a society where all races actually do walk hand by hand, and a society where Women were actually honored and treated as equals simply cannot work then? People have said quite a few times that we were just being ambitious, and that in reality, those issues would never come to pass, every time such an issue came into order in history. Did that stop us? No, in fact, despite all likeliness being almost non-existant, we still managed to do all of these things. As for "reality", the reality is that she has as much of a chance at coming back as Brock did during the Orange Islands (and Masamitsu Hidaka even admitted that he didn't see any chance at Brock returning.). Honestly, a true Misty fan actually tries to bring her back, despite whether it is unlikely or not.

I would compare the abolition of slavery to some children wanting a character change in a cartoon show for 7 year olds.

[PokeCommunity.com] Do you want Dawn to leave?
*facepalm* So... what? Please! I'm not stopping you.

Yeah, there is and what. They aren't ridiculous. At least this shows how many people still want her back and how she is popular. It's kind of loyalty. We do everything what we can.

Honestly, a true Misty fan actually tries to bring her back
Exactly.

If only three people existed on the planet, I suppose it could work. However, there is approximately 6.8 billion people since at least November 2009, and if I'm the only one who did that, then that's only .000000000147058824% of the planet. In other words, nothing. As far as it never being banned, I wouldn't say that. We did ban slavery in America, and when Abolitionism was at it's peak, people did say something similar to what you said, when talking about Slavery.
If people didn't care, then why does a controversy of this level even exist? A controversy simply cannot exist if absolutely no one cared.
I'm talking to a brick wall... Dammit! i should've known better!!! There's no use to really argue with u anymore... or in general... i don't agree with your views and talking to you is just gonna get us no where. u believe what you wanna do and continue to become politcal about a simple show (pokemon), and i'll do my thing, and watch the show for what it is.

Peace

Ehh, I know Dawn's gonna leave eventually, and I don't really mind. I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy the anime like the kiddy show it's meant to be. :)

Cant you realise that what the writers said may have been "a joke" This is a CHILDRENS TV PROGRAM! There will be no nudity... that would just make pokemon go downhill! I would sue xD! you must be a very serious person. I think you take jokes a bit too seriously?

Well, i know what you will find. The series is actuarly going very well in japan... children love it! They saw how great the show was going they made pokemon sunday! In japan children adore dawn, dress up as her, throw pretend pokeballs and stick fake pokeseals made out of paper with tape on them. And i know, ive seen it all over japanese websites. My dad went to japan once on a business trip and he went to one of those pokemon center places and he saw a little 5 or 6 year old dressed in a dawn costume (i think it was the one she wares in contests?) Shes is a great role model! While in the united kingdom or united states its just another silly childrens program that comes on every saturday!

Yes brock was a gym leader! But he gave his job to his father... misty cant give the gym to anyone, doesnt want to give it away, if you've watched chronicals she loves her job. Shes done traveling. I can see what your saying about her goal. But if that was real true then she would not be doing her job as a gym leader.

Why are you comparing slavery with pokemon? Stopping Slavery was somthing that mattered. Changing a character in a cartoon program isnt going to increase the death rate of black people? If you went to the writers the a petition to bring misty back... you know what would happen... i can already see it... they would laugh in your face....
I wouldnt mind see misty again, they may bring her back soon but for now she will be in cerulean city... :\

Oh, trust me, that was no joke. Besides, Dragon Ball, in Japan at least, ALSO was a children's TV program (Heck, one of the special episodes involved traffic safety, and that certainly wouldn't be aimed at teenagers or single, childless adults), and yet that never stopped them from showing a lot of skin or any of that. They wouldn't have bothered telling us that. And anyways, if there was no nudity, try watching "Hot Springing a Leak," as that episode had two instances of nudity in one episode. One instance was with the Boss fantasy. We basically saw what was the closest to near full nudity that Pokemon has come to thus far. The other was during the Team rocket motto, as we saw Jessie, who was implied to be nude/topless in a hot spring, something that has never happened in a Pokemon episode before. The fact that they also tried to do something like "Brave the Wave" in AG was also a pretty big hint at that.

"Great" role model? I've seen some girls emulate the characters from Love Hina, and those girls were most certainly poor role models. Besides which, I've seen more people emulate Misty at a convention than Dawn, and I saw far more positive reviews for Misty than for May and Dawn (I'll even post the sources confirming it, as May and Dawn got absolutely none of that other than the fanbase), and kids even told a fellow Misty Fan to continue posting videos for Misty as they liked her, and those kids were four years old, tops. Heck, even a second-generation Japanese girl and her entire family gave full support in regards to my bringing back Misty.

And Nickstr already confirmed that it's doing poorly. Heck, both it and AG did even worse than Johto in terms of ratings, and that's in Japan. As soon as I find the ratings and do a graph detailing how Pokemon is doing (I'm currently taking Statistics, so as long as I don't make any errors or falsified claims by accident, it should be accurate enough for even you to change your mind.).

I can see what your saying about her goal. But if that was real true then she would not be doing her job as a gym leader.

I have read summaries, comparisons, and reviews about the episode, and not ONCE did I ever get the feeling that she actually loved her job. If anything, the emotion I picked up was that she hated it. She showed great reluctance in doing the Gym in GCYL (If she truly loved doing Gym Leading, she wouldn't have acted exactly like Tracy when the first opportunity of becoming a Gym leader became available, or, to use an outside reference, like Jason Fox from FoxTrot whenever School is going to become in session.), she compared her job to being like cinderella in one Hoso, She also left for Hoenn for a Togepi Festival, and she ALSO left for reasons that had absolutely nothing to do with her Gym at ALL. Heck, when she reappeared in Kanto, she didn't even WANT to return to the gym (I read the summaries, and they mentioned that her sisters called her multiple times to return to the gym. And she knowingly and deliberately ignored their requests. It wasn't until after they threatened to give away badges that she returned. If she really loved the gym, she'd do it immediately after the first call in a joyous manner, just like Tracey.). Even in the ending of the first HOSO, she mentioned her acceptance with being a Gym Leader with great sorrow and reluctance.

They were similar because they were both something that was unlikely to happen. And anyways, trying to bring back Misty was supposed to try and cull down the female anime stereotypes. And anyways, speaking of your statement, maybe you should laugh at Carol B. Weatherford, seeing how she did use racism as a reason why Jynx should be ousted. I might as well make a more apt comparison. My trying to bring Misty back is more comparable to the Feminist movement's efforts to become equal to men in absolutely every single way in terms of how they are treated, and not being treated as some bimbo for men to toy with, seeing how people have not only stated in the past that women could never achieve equal rights or be more than just a man's toy just because it never happened before, but my reasons tie directly to it as well, seeing how I made it a goal to eliminate any Female Anime Stereotypes from this planet.

/agrees with all of this :cer_nod:

Well, I never liked Dawn at all, I say bring Misty back:D

That's.....Exactly..What I was going to say...

Dawn could attract others...but I honestly don't want her to stay that long..
-----------------*Bring Misty back*----------------

I would actually be happy if she left :l

not that I don't like her... let's just say I could like other people better. Plus, if she leaves, so does Piplup as a mascot :p

To be quite honest, she's not a bad character at all... i expect imperfection from her (as a character) because its a kids cartoon and it would be boring to be perfect.

I agree. Dawn's imperfectness is what got me to like love her. And I wouldn't want her to leave, at least not this early in the series.

I don't want her to leave, but if we can get Misty back I would push her out! Although, if the Battle Frontier will be set in Johto, there should be a new female counterpart to work toward the Pokeathalon and it should be her:
[PokeCommunity.com] Do you want Dawn to leave?

She needs her big TV break already, and they've already shown Lyra, stupid people, they could have used her and shown Lyra as the new counterpart. Although Kris would be better suited than Leaf, Leaf NEEDS HER BREAK! But she looks SO MUCH like Dawn... o_O

I never cared for Dawn to begin with ever since the first episode of DP. I missed Misty ever since she left at the end of the Master Quest series, even though she appeared in some of the later episodes. As for May, I've found her to be an okay character. Misty was my all-time favorite character in the show because she was funny and more interesting, imo. From what I have to say about this, is that I think it's for the best that Dawn should leave.
