english dubbing? I hate them
That's because you haven't watched that many.

Chinese Dubbing is not a threat because they mimicked the voice of the actual seiyu
They don't even show anime in China anymore. Something about Japaneses symphony, or something. And lies! Spirited Away Chinese dub was horrible! *crys* It was horrible!

Can we please stop it with all this dub hate? It's really, really pointless now and arguments against dubbing isn't even up to date. You don't care about dubs because you watch crap dubs that get licensed by companies like Manga corp and the likes. times have changed and there is a quality standard now for anime dubs. I bet none of the dub haters here even know any dub voice actor names.

Personally, I dislike subs. I don't like Japanese voice actors. half of the time I can't even tell them apart. The only Japanese voice actors I can easily recognize are Park Romi and Kazuhiko Inoue.

I hate it when Japanese voice actresses try to be cute. No, you're not cute, you're irritating. I also hate voice actresses playing teenage male roles. More than half the time don't even sound like teenage boys. Hello, teenage boys are swimming with something we like to call testosterone. It makes their voices deeper and hair grow in places. Sure some pull off, but most fail horribly. Japan has just has many horribly acted anime has the US do.

I like my dubs. I like to watch my shows staring the voice actors I like.

Also, Gals dub > Gals sub. Anything with Luci Christian, Chris Patton, and Greg Ayres is 10x better. They keep getting aired for a reason, people. Plus, I like scratchy, whiny American accents. We sound amazing when yelling at people. =3

It CAN make an Anime less-entertaining especially if it is bad. Considering a majority of dubbing is bad I voted yes for my generalization.

Yes there are good dubs and I give them due props where props are due but a majority of dubs suck and thats not really debatable.

While I am all for supporting the artists and creators fact of the matter I am not going to shell out $20 a DVD for shiz that sucks just 'cause I want to support the creators of an anime. I'll donate to their paypal, buy their merchandise, or like msot of the time simply buy the manga but I do not shell out premoum dollars on sub-par work.

I'll buy the Miyazaki movies, I got the Cowboy Bebop box, hell I shelled out premium for the FLCL, I got my 08th MS Team, and I am more than satasfied with my Gunslinger Girl but as much of a Narutard I am I will NEVER buy that anime so long as Maile Flannigan is on any audio track. I buy the manga instead :P Would have bought the anime but I am not going to spend good cash on bad dubs no matter how much I like a series. Say what you will about piracy and like but I for one have too much respect for the original property to buy something where one woman totally slaughters the anime series. Frankly I feel we should not have to settle with sub par work. When you ruin a dub expect to be pirated 'cause you can't honestly expect people to empty their wallets for you when your shiz sucks.

All English dubs sounds like masterpieces comparing to Vietnamese dubs of cartoons and movies. One man/woman uses a monotonous voice to dub all characters and the voices of other languages can still be heard.

On-topic: Comparing to the Japanese voices, English dubs are rubbish. (all)

well I like the dubbings, it means that I can actually understand what their saying, listening to the japaneese while watching a show while reading the subtitles is a little to much for my eyes to do at once.

Uh, right. And your proof for this outrageous claim is? Can you even understand enough spoken Japanese to determine if the original Japanese voices are actually any good?

One Piece, Card Captor Sakura, and Sailor Moon are the quintessential examples of how to screw up the English adaptation of an anime, in regards to both voice acting and sheer content alteration and removal. Naruto doesn't come anywhere close to those atrocities.

You want a truly good English dub? Stop watching Naruto and start watching Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Trigun, FLCL, or The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

yeah trigun does have a good dub...haha vash's laugh makes me laugh...haha see

No but the characters sound a lot more authentic in Japanese, so I guess the only back up I have is that they sound better. Let's face it, Wendee Lee is never going to be Japanese or a Pokemon.

Apply your definition of "authenticity" to an anime whose cast of characters is not Japanese. Koichi Yamadera and Megumi Hayashibara were good, but Steven Blum and Wendee Lee were better.

Well for me, I am 50-50 on this. Most of the time if I see a dub that is bad, I will turn away big time. So far I seen only a few bad dubs. But I see A LOT of great ones. ^^

So it depends on my call. If I don't like the dub, I simply don't watch it. I will stick to the subs. Simple as that. But sometimes I will watch the dub more than the sub.

That is why I said my feeling of this is 50-50.

It doesn't make it less entertaining to me, not at all.
Because I love alot of the VAs in envolved in certain dubbing companies.
Mainly Funimation and ADV.

While I love the Japanese, I also really look up to the dub VAs, because voice acting is
something that I'd like to get into it in the future.. so I can't really bash dubs. ^^;

I'm also internet buddies with a few VAs, and besides the fact that I think they're
awesome at what they do, I'd feel bad if I dissed their work.

I use to be one of those hard-core dub haters when I was younger.
Up until I was about 17, I guess..

But not anymore..
& if I come across a dub, or an anime thats dubbed by a company I'm not too fond
of, I just make a note to stay away from it. ^^;

it doesn't make it less interesting to me as well. I would love to see my favorite shows in English and I do. But some of the voices for ex: Renji (Japanese) and Renji (English) Japanese Renji Abarai sounds better then the English. Also I can't stand Kakashi's voice in Japanese. Also in some ENG episodes of BLEACH they pronounce Renji's last name wrong

I like both subbed and dubbed Anime. I much perfer subbed Anime, but there are some dubbed Anime that I really like.

To be honest, I hate the anime altogether [only the games take my interest o.o] but I suppose if I had to choose I'd go for Japanese. The only decent dub I've ever seen is Hellsing, and they only messed up Alucard's voice. He's meant to be a victorian style vampire, not a bloody gangster xD

Dubbing is a bit of a touchy subject. As i find you prefer the voices you mainly heard the show in.

Like i watched Dragonball to Dragonball GT in English (btw great dub) and then watched the Jap movies and I hated the voices. However i watched Naruto in Jap first and then listened to a dub and it was horrible. So i think that plays a part.

However the biggest problem is porbably the dubbing company that takes then on, and as most shows get taken on by small and rubbish countries and the voice actors are probably new at it. We end up with a FEELING LESS dub. However if you get a good company you get a high quality Dub.

Well, actually AK is right because like a way while back when I watched the Gundam Seed Destiny on T.V(Subs) the collection 18-22 got erased until this week I think. I watched the 1 and 2nd Eps and it was a dub..a great one..I still think i prefer Kira,Shinn,Athrun and Cagalli's voices to be good in Japanese or English anyways. Point is AK has a great point.

it depends, if i watch it subbed first then il prefer it subbed (or hopefully raw when i can speak japanese well enough[and that is NOT the reason im learing]) although if i watch it dubbed first then il usually prefer the dub after that

I usually watch the dubs more often. It really ticks me off how people bash the dubs, namely Naruto, for stupid things like 'believe it!', It hasn't been used since the anime was in the 20's.

Also, people always complain about reduced gore and profanity, this is a SHONEN production, as in, work that is directed to YOUNG boys. Dattebayo, I would presume, puts in the swearing on purpose in their subs, It's way too overdone to me. And the violence? Apparently, unless a character isn't completely drenched in blood in a battle, it isn't realistic...

A personal problem I have with the subs is, I'm trying to watch an anime and listen to people talk, that's not very easy when half my eyesight is directed to the bottom of the screen to know what the characters are saying, It sort of takes from the overall action going on in the scene...
