122. Their HP/level stuff was unrealistic. :V
Still kinda is, actually, on the newer cards that brought back levels in the Pokedex entry flavor text.
I actually had a pretty boss set of formulas for determining HP based on the level on the card when I was making text-based fakes as a Pokemon-obsessed 9, 10 and 11 year old. They were as such:
Baby: Level x 2 rounded to the nearest 10.
Basic (Pikachu and such): Level x 2 +10 HP rounded to the nearest 10.
Stage 1: Level x 2 +20 HP rounded to the nearest 10.
Stage 2: Level x2 +30 HP rounded to the nearest 10.

I think I had a Gardevoir on my first Sapphire team. I'm not sure, though. I remember Ralts being a pain to catch when I first got the game. :V

I always had a whole team going in the early gens, but my strongest Pokemon was usually not my starter - it was usually something awesome like a Nidoking/Nidoqueen or a Kadabra, with a 20 level gap between the best one or two and everybody else. :B Sapphire was the first game where my starter was my highest level Pokemon by the time I beat all eight badges. Then I picked up Kyogre and it and Blaziken were BAMFs against the Elite 4.
