So, if you guys hadn't heard, Kier Darby and Mike Sullivan are working on a new forum software, XenForo. Imo the way vB4 looks compared to this in it's first stages (Not even a release yet and it's already better aesthetically), it would be a good idea to run with this until the end of summer (When they predict they will have a release ready), and switch to it. Imo without the original founders vB is headed in a stupid direction.

Anyways, only a suggestion, in the long run I think this would be a much better choice, only problem is waiting. I'd link to it but yeah, total advertising. :P

Well if it'd mean less down time, then I'm all for it. HTML in posts would be great if they're doing that.

Just to add to this a little bit.

Darren Gordon has left the vB development team and has updated his Interests on his profile with XenForo, so it looks like he'll end up working on them as well. Lol, maybe everyone except Scott from the original vB team will end up developing this thing. XD

Don't worry Ooka, there have been threads like these before and it's been mentioned that the uppers don't have any plans to upgrade to vB4 any time soon.

It's mostly because of the many forum styles we have that aren't compatible with vB4, right? I remember someone from the higher staff saying that but I'm not sure if there's other factors too.

I think vB4 is hideous and would prefer to stay on vB3 as long as possible.

It has nothing to do with styles for me, personally, but it's mostly styles and hacks/modifications that are keeping us put for now.

Another forum I'm at is using vB4 and it's working fine for us. I actually like the style, though I had to get use to it at first. Also, we don't have any buggy problems just yet, so we're safe for the time being. True, some features were disabled like profile customization, but I'm cool with that. I come to the forums for posting and checking out discussions, not fancy features. I know there won't be a vB4 upgrade for PC for now, but I'm fine if the forum upgrades.

vB4 is absolutely atrocious (design-wise and from a programming/business standpoint) and I think we're committed to staying on 3.8 as long as we can. However, I honestly can see XenForo becoming an option for us in the future, since Kier is amazing and it seems like he's pushing XF in the right direction and it looks like it'll eventually be what vB4 should have been all along.

Not my call in the end as to whether we convert or not, but I like what I'm seeing so far out of XF.

And LockerzNoob, that didn't really contribute anything to the discussion, so cut the spammish-ness.

Whoah, just gotta say, XenForo looks tasty. XD

I'm on a few other forums who upgraded to vB4, hoping to get a better community out of it. Some of them ended up losing members in the long run, and the forums themselves are constantly running bugs. XenForo on the other hand, it knows how to use it's Java, and somehow.. it's fun to use. >w> I'm kind hoping to see PC switch to Xen one day. Not that I won't miss vB3, but y'know.. if we ever have to change, then yeah.

Considering vB went to crap after Kier, Mike and the rest of the old crew left, and two of them (Possibly three counting Darren Gordon, who might be coming to the team, although it's now doubted) have started a new software that already looks promising in the first couple months of development, I would say vB won't be market-leading for long.

These guys are hammering out bugs one after another, and continuously add features. They've also done great on the security side of things, and thus far it's still extremely light weight. Also I find the Javascript usage attractive on more than one level. ;)
