So, this generation invented moves that calculated type effectiveness with multiple types. Well, one move, Hawlucha's Flying Press. It is a unique idea that I didn't like in theory, but I liked after playing around with it.

Well as I keep playing, I keep finding myself thinking to myself "You know, it would make sense if that move was double typed too...or maybe that move..."

What do you guys think? Any moves that you particularly think would make sense as a double typed move? Any ret-cons you would make?

I personally was thinking that Scald makes sense as a fire type move too. It is an increased temperature water move, and it burns, so it seems like it should be, but it isn't. And hot water melts ice easily, hence why when I used scald against an ice type I felt like logically, it should have dealt more damage.

    Thunder Wave > Electric-flying
What would be the point of turning a Status move into a Dual-typed move?

There aren't really a lot of moves that would benefit from having a type change at the moment, seems like something they'd be better off developing in future generations rather than trying to retcon old moves into dual type.

Though, Kyurem-B and Kyurem-W's signature moves could easily be changed to Ice/Fire and Ice/Electric.

Well at least for Thunder Wave, if it was Electric Flying, Gale Wings would give it priority.

Come to think of it, Emolga would be quite an interesting Pokemon to make use of the "Gale Wings" ability if Thunder Wave was made into an Electric/Flying move.

The problem is, and I just realized this, but the move is only flying type for type effectiveness calculation, but it ignores things like STAB. So maybe Gale Wings wouldn't effect it after all...

There's a lot of moves that would fit dual-type category, with two being Ominous Wind and Muddy Water, which are seemingly combinations of ghost/flying and water/ground. Though, I just don't think double-typing should actually become something common, as that would make it harder for pretty much everybody when it comes to competitive battling, raise confusion, and make people upset. :( We'd adapt eventually, but some players just might not like it.

I agree with you completely. WAY too many people lose all bowel control when someone uses Double Team, so imagine the fits of hysterics if more moves were double typed.

I'd rather it just stay to being a rare thing. If they made a few moves dual-typed, I'd be fine with it. But otherwise, just leave it out of the equation for the most part. It's hard enough keeping up with all the 18 types. Then having to take two types into calculation sounds NUTS. My head would blow up. @_@

Perhaps Heat Wave should be Fire/Flying though because it's called Hot Wind or something similar in Japanese and many birdlike Pokemon learn it. That's the only candidate I can think of so far.

For a while I thought Tackle should be universal. A Golem tackling a Butterfree, realistically, would take it down with no sympathy. I figured a fire type tackling a grass type would still cause some fire damage, same goes for ice, and bug, ect.

But I can also think of a hundred reasons why that just wouldn't work.

Never! It would make the game way more confusing. It wouldn't work out AT ALL.

I hope they never do that again. I think dual type Pokemon is as far as we should ever go - it's would be too confusing to calculate all of this type effectiveness many times over when using dual-typed moves on dual-typed Pokemon.

The elemental punches and fangs could be retconned as part fighting and dark, respectively. But I think these dual-typed moves should be very rare and limited to combinations like Flying Press, in which weaknesses and resistances aren't quadrupled against any single type. In other words, both types (fighting and flying in this case) shouldn't share super effectiveness (and ineffectiveness) against any one type. So nothing like fire/fighting, which would automatically deal 4x the damage against a pure steel or ice type.

There are certainly a ton of moves that merit a dual typing, but I think it's only going to be something that's added to new moves. Therefore, unlike Fairy types, no old moves will get a double typing. In fact, it may very well be solely a signature move for Hawlucha, but that would honestly be a waste of potential.

I'd love for more dual-type moves.

They really wouldn't be that much harder to take, and they'd add a cool new level of strategy.
