In Generation IV, there is a man in a house near the Valor Lakefront Resort that will "look at the footprints of your pokemon" to determine how much they like you. If their friendship is at maximum, he will give you a Footprint Ribbon, even if a Pokémon (for example, Crobat) doesn't have a Footprint.

Depending on the Friendship Level, and type of Pokémon, Dr. Footstep will say something different.

Did you ever visit Dr. Footsteps House? What did you think of this (rather useless) feature?

I think I visited him in my first playthrough of Platinum, but I had no idea of what he was up to beforehand. Once in a lifetime.
