With the recent UU/NU split, I was eager to build a NU team for myself. Sadly, unlike PC's NU list, Smogon's was much more offensive. The old NU was more defensive, with walls and tanks by the plenty, and although the sweepers weren't exactly "weak", they had a much harder time penetrating the NU walls. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about new NU; it's an offensive mess. Perhaps this is a good thing...perhaps not. Either way, I designed this team to rely on resistances, natural bulk, and revenge killing to deal with most of the defensive and offensive threats that thrive in NU. The idea behind the team is to ATTACK, ATTACK, ATTACK! Any threats that are faster than my initial sweepers are to be neutralized by the bulk and resistances provided by everyone else.

The whole team only has one true end-game sweeper; Ursaring. This is acceptable, since nearly nothing can take beatings from this brute, especially after they've lost a ton of HP from Ursaring's teammates (Hitmonchan and Sharpedo specifically). Rhydon honestly is just there because it counters Linoone, although I guess I could make it a bulky defensive set, I sort of like having a pseudo-CB Tyranitar on my team. It brutally wrecks things also, so that's a huge plus. This team has only had a few battles (they've been good battles might I add), and I'm satisfied with it thus far. Still, I'll make changes if you guys feel I should.

    Jumpluff @ Leftovers
    Jolly
    188 Def / 68 SpD / 252 Spe
    -Sleep Powder
    -Substitute
    -Leech Seed
    -Encore

The best lead in NU, at least for me. Jumpluff is incredibly broken thanks to some of the best support moves in the game, in his arsenal. Sleep Powder nearly guarantees he will incapitate one opponent. Leech Seed combined with Substitute is ever annoying, and helps stall out enemies as well as set the battle in my favor. Encore is usually there for set-ups, and also for giving Jumpluff the chance to set up. It also stops things like Ursaring from running all over me, as I outspeed and and just Encore the Swords Dance or Protect. I haven't had any ideas of changing Jumpluff, as it has been solid thus far.

    Hitmonchan @ Life Orb
    Adamant
    6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
    -Close Combat
    -Mach Punch
    -Thunderpunch
    -Ice Punch

In NU, the only two Fighting-types are Medicham and Hitmonchan. While Medicham has a higher Attack stat, Hitmonchan possesses Iron Fist, making his punches pack more power than Medicham. Hitmonchan brings an awesome array of power to the table in the form of Close Combat, as well as excellent type coverage in the form of BoltBeam punches (Thunder and Ice Punch). Above all else, the main selling point that made me choose Hitmonchan over Medicham is Mach Punch. With STAB and Iron Fist boosting it, Mach Punch can be devastating to things like Glaceon, Ursaring, and many other frail sweepers attempting to kill me. Truly, Hitmonchan is the glue that keeps this team together.

[PokeCommunity.com] Drinking Lattes and Being a Sissypants *^-^* (NU RMT)

    Rhydon @ Choice Band
    Adamant
    6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
    -Earthquake
    -Stone Edge
    -Megahorn
    -Double Edge

An absolute monster! Rhydon 2HKOs all of NU easily with just EQ / SE / Megahorn. Double Edge is pure filler, but it could become useful if I want a power move with no side effect or risk of missing. The greatest thing about Rhydon is its amazing STABs, as well as natural bulk and wonderful typing. Earthquake batters everything that doesn't resist it, and even then they better pack some serious defense or else they're going down. Stone Edge covers what Earthquake doesn't, and OHKOs pretty much everything weak to it. Megahorn rips Hypno, Grumpig, and Exeggutor pretty badly. Double Edge is, again filler, but it's so powerful that it smashes neutral targets pretty nicely. And thanks to Rock Head, there's no recoil. It pains me to say this, but Rhydon has been the weakest link on my team ._. I'd still like to keep it, however.

    Sharpedo @ Life Orb
    Naive
    76 Atk / 180 SpA / 252 Spe
    -Surf
    -Crunch
    -Earthquake
    -Ice Beam

A monstrous mixed sweeper with a ton of speed. Man, the amount of times this guy has saved my ass from being swept in old UU was amazing, so when I found out it was NU, I was positively shocked! Sharpedo hits like a train, and has awesome type coverage, along with the ability to outrun a majority of massive NU threats. Sharpedo sinks his teeth into things usually after they've been weakened by Ursaring, but if I find an opprotunity to bring him in, then by all means, he's coming in. Crunch and Surf cover a lot of NU, mainly Rhydon, Golem, Armaldo, Hypno, Grumpig, and other ridiculously bulky Pokemon. Earthquake helps against Fire-types that I don't want to have to resort to Hydro Pump, and Ice Beam covers Grass-types, such as Vileplume. I really like Sharpedo. His high offenses and decent speed make him one reliable shark.

    Ursaring @ Toxic Orb
    Jolly
    6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
    -Swords Dance
    -Facade
    -Earthquake
    -Crunch

The most broken thing in NU, easily. A Swords Dance Facade OHKOs over half of the metagame, leaving only a few bulky things such as Tangrowth, Slaking, and (lol) Cloyster who can take one. Still, all of these can be dealt with, and obviously cannot switch into one. Earthquake covers the Steel-types such as Aggron and Probopass who attempt to wall Facade, while Crunch hits Ghost-types (although the only ones I can imagine being troublesome are Dusclops and Sableye). Switching this guy in is so easy, and if the opponent doesn't have a Choice Scarf revenge killer, or a CB Hitmonchan with Mach Punch, the phrase "GG" is most likely all I can say for them. This guy's place is non-negotiable (Luke would kill me if he found out I got rid of Ursaring :<)

    *image removed*
    Grumpig @ Leftovers
    Timid
    252 HP / 20 SpD / 236 Spe
    -Substitute
    -Calm Mind
    -Psychic
    -Signal Beam

The newest member of the team; SubMind Grumpig. Sims apparently likes Grumpig, and I needed something to take Ice and sorta take Fighting attacks, so Grumpig was the initial choice. I haven't gotten to use him much, but he switches in on resisted Special hits, Substitutes, and begins to own things. Fighting-types are scared of this guy, especially since a majority of them are outrun and destroyed by Psychic. Signal Beam pairs well with Psychic, hitting Psychic and Dark-types super effectively. Basically, I chose this guy for his typing, but he's definately a cool pig, and if anyone has suggestions on his moveset, I'd be happy to take him, as I really want to try him out (he covers Glaceon superbly).

*Jesus Christ Luke destroyed this title ._.

Oh man, NU, best tier ever.

The only problem with this team is the fact that CB Sharpedo is better than Mixed imo. You can probably keep the Life Orb, but max attack, replace Surf with Waterfall and Ice Beam with Ice Fang.

Interesting, while investing in Sharpedo's higher Attack stat would definately help with some 2HKOs and OHKOs, I would like to keep some diversity. Plus, Surf is stronger than Waterfall, and Ice Beam stronger than Ice Fang in nearly all cases.

Are there any examples you could give me to why I should go all physical? I'm really interesting in hearing, because if they make sense, I'll certainly change.

Its all good, I just say that you use Bullet Punch over Mach Punch for better type coverage.

I put the update in bold.

No examples really, just a preference of mine for Sharpedo. By adding more attack, Waterfall and Ice Fang end up out damaging Surf and Ice Beam because Sharpedo has a great max attack. However, you want to keep diversity, but I find Sharpedo is a little weaker that way. And since it has abysmal defence, I find you should hit hard and fast (and you hit harder with max attack).

I don't think so; given the sheer base power difference between Ice Fang and Ice Beam, Ice Beam does more, damage for damage, than Ice Fang.

Bullet Punch doesn't provide better coverage than Mach Punch. They hit the same things for super effective, although Bullet Punch is resisted by a lot more things. I also need Mach Punch primarily for Ursaring, Glaceon, and foe Scarfers, as most are OHKOed after Stealth Rock damage.

Ice Beam always outdamages Ice Fang, due to the sheer base power difference. Surf hits things like Aggron much harder than Waterfall, and also helps with things like Sandslash, who can live a Waterfall, but not a Surf.

    Exactly.

More rates please, I'm glad I'm getting positive input =]

I won't pretend to know the prevalence of such teams in NU, but it's fairly weak against Rain Dance teams...In particular, any form of Floatzel could wreak havoc with a Swift Swim boost, and you have nothing for taking out a bulky water like Quagsire (who is immune to Thunderpunch and walls most of the team).

In General after Sleep Clause is active or Jumpluff dies, a physical sweeper could wreak havoc on your team, especially after a SD and even more especially if it outspeeds a switched-in Encore (I don't think there's much out there that can, but still).

Take this next suggestion with a grain of salt as I'm a complete noob to NU, but wouldn't a Rock Polish Armaldo be a good sub for Rhydon? You get the Linoone resist, plus a fast (with setup) physical sweeper with the same moves as Rhydon (although with STAB on X-Scissor instead of EQ).

I haven't faced any Rain Dance teams, but yeah, they're pretty much broken as hell. I suppose I could use a Lapras in place of Grumpig, though I gain a Fighting weakness. Nothing really beats Lapras on a RD team, then again, I could also use Rain Dance sweeper of my own (in place of Sharpedo) to somewhat remedy the weakness).

Sweepers never set up on Jumpluff. I usually have the sub up, so if they try and set up, they become easy bait. Encore stops them cold, which is cool.

To be honest, Armaldo is too inferior to Rhydon. It's Stealth Rock weak, has no STAB EQ, has a weaker Stone Edge, and even its STAB X-Scissor is weaker than Rhydon's Megahorn. I could use RP Rhydon, but that's a tad too many set up sweepers.

Thanks for the rate. I'm highly considering getting some RD insurance like you suggested. Thing is, RD is so damn broken no one thing can stop it 0__0

Yeah, the further down in tiers you go, the more broken it is.

I was also referring to sweepers that set up on something other than jumpluff. If they outspeed after setup (Due to Rock Polish/Swift Swim or just being really, really fast) they will sweep everything since Jumpluff can't get in to Encore in time. The point was you don't really have anyone that can take a hit from a Mixed sweeper as a Return from a normal type will take out most everything but Rhydon who falls to EQ/Waterfall/What have you. I'm thinking Bulk Up Floatzel, SD Cacuturne (I've seen them...they exist, although he's revenge-killed by Hitmonchan w/o sub/sand veil hax), Rock Polish Golem, etc.

Although everything I think of is theory, I don't know how to/am far too lazy to actually crunch numbers on everything.

As far as stopping RD teams (and Quagsire), it seems like a Leafeon might work, but his movepool is somewhat limited, still the Sub/Salac build on Smogon looks absolutely evil plus the SD build might work over Ursaring for certain teams.

From the sound of it, I need to enhance my defenses. Cacturne is pretty hard to stop, although Hitmonchan's Mach Punch makes Sucker Punch fail, and it KOs it IIRC. Rhydon is another pain, which makes me want to use Quagsire to handle it decently. Quagsire would also handle Rain Dance teams...Hmm.

Put in a Quagsire, Vance or else stuff in the rain like Gorebyss will rape you. Outspeeds everything, Ice Beam sends Jumpluff to hell, Rain-boosted Surfs wipe out Rhydon obviously, Usaring and Hitmonchan. HP Electric/Grass takes care of Sharpedo and I'm not sure what her Surf does to Grumpig but it is defeintely at least at 2HKO =/ Floatzael could also wrecko havoc.

Leafeon is a threat as well, SD Leaf Blade hurts alot of your team and though Jumpluff can sleep it, what if Jumpluff has fainted or if you've slept another threat.

Apart from that, this is an awesome team, Vance.

Now win matches with it until Kricketot walls you.

I'm going to add Quagsire without a doubt, but now I need to know: Over who? Jumpluff, Hitmonchan, and Ursaring are definately out of the question. I really want to try Rhydon, though, although Sharpedo and Grumpig may be replaced.

So your choices would be Rhydon/Sharpedo/Grumpig, here's what i think

Rhydon is great, he hits like a truck but he's slow and he doesn't have Solid Rock + his SpD isn't good either and there are quite a few Grass/Water types who can hammer his 4x weaknesses. Plus despite his good defence, he still has common weaknesses in Fighting and Ground =/ However since you want to keep him maybe Sharpedo.

Sharpedo to be honest, i'd replace him. You already have a late-game sweeper and a physical sweeper. I wouldn't replace Grumpig as he takes special hits pretty well and in general Sharpedo would be hard to bring in due his horrible defenses(even resisted hits take alot off him)

It's up to you =/ I'd drop Sharpedo personally.

Yeah, I love Sharpedo and all, but it seems that if he can't kill something...he just dies =(

As for Quagsire, should I use Encore / EQ / Watefall / Toxic? I wonder how it'll fair against Rhydon and co.

Encore / EQ / Waterfall / Toxic is the ways to go, taught to me by Samson and D_A =] Optionally Ice Punch can be used to hit Grass-types who would wall him otherwise =/

Quagsire is an excellent tank. It'll fit well as it'll take Water-attacks aimed at Rhydon and you can rely on it to take a physical hit.

glad you're throwing quag in there cus your team would've have some serious trouble with sweeping relicanth.

be careful for specsVeno. it doesn't necessarily sweep your team but it can surely cause some hard damage here with bug buzz.

be aware of vigoroth leads that'll smack jumpluff in the face. scarfVigo is actually pretty decent in NU.

Vigoroth, eh? Well, I'd obviously switch to Rhydon on that. The threat of Encore is just too great. Venomoth has always swept my teams in UU, and this one doesn't fair much better =( Hopefully Quagsire can live to do...something.

well yeah, what i was just saying is don't think jumpluff as uncounterable. scarf vigoroth can trow out fast elemental punches, resist sleep and even provide a faster encore than jumpluff.

I did the damage cals with sharpedo. with your current EV spread of 180 on sp. at ull do max 88% damage with surf on a neutral medicham. If you were to max out attack EV's you would do max 93% damage with materfall. Not only would you do more damage but you would also power up ur other move more than they already are. My reasoning for using mmedicham btw is because it has the same def and sp.def. Also the way NU tier is stacked theres alot more harder hitting physical sweepers verse special.
