Driver's Licence

Ahh, my first day of driver education sophomore year of HS was something else...my partner had about 40 hours in while I had more like three, so our experience levels were incredibly different. I went first and did fine but nothing extravagant. He then took the wheel. He did a spectacular job, and the instructor was ecstatic. Well, he went on one more run through 'the neighbourhood', aaaaaaaand...he hit a garbage bin. I can still hear the instructor saying 'What were you looking at?!' Yep.
EDIT: forgot to mention that he knocked the passenger-side mirror off...

..it's not 14 here, but I know it is in Iowa--more rural areas kinda need it to be like that.

P.S.-the DMV is the worst place with the worst people to be at...everyone and their DUIs hang out there.

I take my test for my permit in April. ack I'm so nervous, but excited.

my parents are being so funny about it when I mention getting a permit to them. My mom keeps instructing me on safety and stuff everytime I sit in the front and told my exactly what to do if I car I'm driving hydroplanes (something like that)

*rolls eyes* I guess it's important, but geez. Still, can't wait for my 16th birthday. I'm one of the oldest in my grade, so it'll be cool to drive before them XD

My first "real" time driving (moving six feet after removing your foot from the brake doesn't count, ;) ) wasn't too spectacular. I drove around my high school's parking lot for kicks and then drove down the street back home. I wasn't terrified, but I had this huge tendency to meander toward the shoulder, thinking that cars coming in the other direction would take the driver's side mirror clean off. It's a lot better now though.

At least now I don't have to bike down to Wal-Mart to get gum and a Mountain Dew, LOL.

I actually just got my permit today. I'm in Washington, so I think that you can get a permit around 15. I'm 16 and a half now, so go figure. I guess I've just never had a use for a car: I live close enough where I can walk or bike to just about everything.

I went out to an empty parking lot with my dad and drove a few laps. Once my dad was confident that I could turn and signal half-decently, I drove us home. I never really considered it before, but intersections are pretty scary. Truth be told, I'm still unsure of exactly how they work.

Other than that one intersection, everything was pretty uneventful. My parents hope that by next summer, I'll be ready to help drive the family van 1500 miles across the U.S. to do our usual vacation. I think that their expectations are set a bit high, but I'll see what happens, I guess.

I'm 17, and I've yet to get my permit...

Too much money to go to driving school...and that's before Car Insurance afterwards :<

I'm going to go for my licence this month or next hopefully, I've waited for too long already.

Well, I've been driving for like 4 or 5 months now already. And it's a great freeing experience. Anyways, I failed my first time for nearly hitting a car when I was pulling away from the curb, and then nearly failed my second time for almost speeding to high, and completely botching my parallel parking. :p, driving is fun. =)

IMO driving sucks. You could crash/die in any random situation, you have to pay for gas every week, friends always use you for a ride, car insurance, DUI's, and the list could go on and on.

Don't look forward to getting a license/car.
It isn't as fun as you think.

The first time I got behind the wheel was when I was 14 no permit and I drove in some neighborhood then my mom says I have had enough of this stop the car.My first experience on a main road was in drivers ed was not really worried cause he had a break on his side incase I screw up.

I'm able to get my license right now, have been able to since last October. But due to insurance, my dad won't let me get it untill I buy a car, which I may be doing on Sunday (Say hello '91 Bronco or '86 Mustang 5.0)

As far as feelings behind the wheel, I had no issues when I started. At first I drove a little too far to the right for comfort, but that was fixed quickly. I could comfortably drive a stick shift after the first week, and didn't even stall on my first time. Here's the trick, bet you parents you won't stall, after they accept, rev up to ~3500 rpm(4000 if it's a Honda) and drop the clutch. Oh yeah, and don't get off the gas :D

I had my first accident in February '08. Riding down a 2 lane country road with 2 cars behind me. My turn is coming up, so I start slowing down and throw on the blinker. Little did I know, the guy 2 cars back (who was ironically on my football team) didn't wanna slow down, so he jumps into the oncoming lane to pass the 2 cars that are slowing down. Mind you this all happened very fast. I start my turn and he comes flying by at about 60 I'd say and smacks the front fender of the Mustang. We just get jolted, He goes up on 2 wheels and spins 3 times, coming to rest about 2 feet from the ditch on the side of the road. Long story short, Mustang gets 4,000 in damage on it, his car just needs a new door and hubcap.

And it still doesn't deter me from driving at all. I love driving, and cars, a little accident won't change that.

@Austin, just buy a 2 seater, they'll stop asking for rides. Especially if you buy a Miata. Them things handle like go-carts, so much fun, who cares if people think it's a chick car.

I got my learners two days before the holidays, I've drove 3 times, and it's fun but I can see how it can be stressful sometimes =D

I got my licence a few months ago. I dont drive much though since i live in ny and theres a lot of traffic most the time. So i just take the train and bus.

Why would I buy a new car if
A. I even can't afford gas
B. My car is relatively new
C. I don't want a compact car
D. I don't want to be driving something that can be compared to a go-kart

I've had my license for about a year now. I've been able to drive other people in the car other than my fam for a few months. So many car dance parties. ;; srsly though, having a license is the greatest thing ever. I'd die if it ever got taken away.

I don't want to learn how to drive... it's just contributing to have a more polluted planet to live in...
