Hi, I was wondering if there is an easier way to rename locations like towns and routes in firered, or if not, if there is a version of gen 3 GBA pokemon emulator that still has reasonable space for more sprites compared to emerald but still is easier to rename locations than firered, if there are any.

I'm not too sure what you mean by renaming locations when you're speaking about emulators at the same time - could you elaborate on that a little? If you mean giving the maps new names and you're hacking FireRed you could just rename it in AdvanceMap, it's very easy to do. Also, both games have a lot of free space so you shouldn't need to worry too much about that =)

Advanced Map can easily rename locations. Just go to the very last page (the one to the right of the wild POKeMON), select your desired town/route name (or use your current selection if you'd like), rename it using the field to the right of the dropdown box, and then hit change name. Hit it again and it should finally go through. If you are talking about adding more spaces for custom map objects, advanced map can do that too. Hit the puzzle piece on your desired map, click one of the menus, find change block amount and enter how many blocks you need added (E.G. 10), and then go to those to add in your custom objects. About town/route names, I have no idea how to add in new town/route names without touching the existing ones. If I change names, I just use the unused ones such as sevii isle 22, and if I need more, I just use the names that the Island 7 chambers use (Milford Chamber, etc), and then make it so that chambers name doesn't display when you enter it. That's for FireRed. For Emerald (but not Ruby and Sapphire), I will use the FireRed towns as for some reason those are in the game, and all of those go unused (except for Navel Rock and Birth Island), making them perfect for anything new I might add in.

Thanks! I learned recently that yes, indeed, space isn't as much a problem as it used to be with emerald, and I also recently learned that it's easier to rename and modify existing maps than add new ones, but thank you guys a million for helping me, I will most likely be creating a whole new game out of emerald with entirely different sprites and my own Pocket monster knockoffs that are in my own art style.
Essentially a completely new game if I can help it. I was thinking there are not enough good Halloween holiday themed games out there so I wanted to create or 'Hack' a new one. I turned to these tools because I hope it won't be as impossible as designing a game in unity was for me. There seems to be an amazing amount of documentation and a wonderful plethora of tools to make it less of a headache for an artist like me.
