This is something that I've been wondering about for a good few years, but I don't think I've ever brought it up or heard anyone else do so, so now seems like a good time. Frankly, I wish the Elite Four rooms were a little more interesting. Many of the Gyms, especially in newer generations, have fantastically designed puzzles, yet the E4 chambers remain totally linear and simple. Even though X&Y did a good job making the rooms look fantastically cool, it didn't make them any more interesting to traverse or add any kind of puzzle.

I'm a little confused on why no game has put puzzles in the E4 rooms. It's probably unreasonable to put trainers in there, since that'd make the battling super tough, but you could still devise many puzzles that were difficult to complete without trainers.

Thoughts? Opinions? Do you find the rooms boring or are you totally apathetic about this?

I'm not really referring to decoration, they could be much less decorated while still actually featuring some kind of puzzle. While the new versions are certainly overdecorated, progressing through them still involves no more than walking straight towards your opponent. That's what I'd like changed.

Do you mean something like the path to the E4 that was present in B/W, I think it was? With the little paths and areas themed to each if the Gym badges? I would love it if they added in some minor traversal aspect to the E4, a small puzzle to go through. There is a fine line here, though; the E4 still needs it's decorum. For now, I think we should be happy with some decent rooms at least. Caitlyn's bedroom, though

I wouldn't want puzzles in their rooms. To look at it from the in-game standpoint, I just struggled my way through eight Gyms and the caverns of ultimate death, I don't believe in "one final challenge, or actually five cuz E4 and Champion." Eugh.

I suppose that is a concern also, how it can always seem like "just one more" challenge; first there are 8 gyms, then find out you have to go through Victory road, then you find out that there's this final thing called the Elite Four. But you beat them all, and you prepare for the credits to roll, and then *BAM* there's a Champion to fight.
You also have to fight an evil team the whole time, too. If there are puzzles in the rooms, it could seem a bit odd.

I wouldn't like to see puzzles in the Elite 4 Rooms, makes no sense to beat the 8 gyms to challenge the Elite Four to be challenged to more puzzles, they're all already supposed to be challenge so there's no need.
Like Kabocha said, having puzzles would take away from the elegancy & presence the Elite four would have among the player.

But for the Elite Four's design of their chambers should be like Gen 5's idea of design. The plain room where they just stand there like in ORAS I don't tend to like that much

I feel like some interactability would be nice, like how you could walk through the log in Aaron's room in Platinum. Just little things like that make me so happy for some reason :P

Despite the simpler graphics, I actually really liked the Elite Four rooms from RBY. They were very personalized compared to the E4 rooms from many of the later games (particularly Gens 2 and 3).

Lorelei used aquatic Pokémon, so her room was filled with water. Bruno used mountain Pokémon, so his room was filled with rocks. Agatha used creepy Pokémon, so her room was filled with tombstones. And, Lance was the Dragon Master and leader of the bunch, so he got the large, fancy room filled with dragon statues.

Their rooms even all had different music, with Lorelei's using the gym theme, Bruno's the cave theme, Agatha's the Lavender Tower theme, and Lance's the Indigo Plateau theme.
