Do you guys like these? I mean, I remember being excited about Emerald bringing back animated sprites like they had in Crystal, but idk. They don't have as much charm to them. Most of them just kind of hop around a bit or something and I don't find it interesting. Not that they're terrible, but compared to Crystal, I prefer them. They have their own charm though, but maybe I'm just biased because Emerald is my favorite game.

So do you guys have any favorites? I like Combusken's, mostly for the still haha.

They were ok but ruby/sapphire has some mediocre sprites to begin with (especially Pokemon that couldn't be obtained in the original game without cheating)

I agree. Even some of the Pokemon introduced in that game look really off compared to their artwork, like Shiftry. I used to think it was scary only until I saw how it was supposed to look, then I was alright with it...if I didn't stare at the sprite too long. :P But yeah, the non-native Hoenn Pokemon all look pretty terrifying. Mostly in the eyes too. It's always the eyes...ick.

Also, this is kind of horrific, but adorable at the same time. Or I have problems. Haha.

I liked that a lot of the Electric type Pokemon had sprites where they were 'charging up'- Pikachu, Electabuzz, Zapdos, Magneton, and probably a few others would flash yellow during their animation.

Two of my least favorite though were Pidgeot's and Spheal's animations. For whatever reason, they both decide to do somersaults, which I get is excusable for a ball-shaped Pokemon like Spheal, but not so much for Pidgeot.

I agree that Emerald's animated sprites were quite lackluster. Some of them didn't feature actual movement, it was just a bit of slightly pixelated rotation, back and forth. Staryu comes to mind.

I think I fangirled over it anyway, though. Doesn't take much to impress a young mind. Perhaps Game Freak knew that. Heh.

I'm not sure I like them at all tbh, for the first couple of playthroughs they were a nice change, then the novelty wears off, and it just feels like I'm wasting time. Fast text, battle scene off, and just enjoy the game, this could possibly be part of the reason I don't play the new games I guess, everything seems overdone and over animated, aslong as I know what's battling against what and how to win I'm happy. but I know that not everyone feels the same :)

I was very stoked with seeing sprites animated, but then again I didn't know about Crystal's animated sprites at the time given I was still new to Pokemon games. I do find some animations boring, at least compared to later games and before idle animations became a staple.

When I played Emerald, I had no idea this was even there. I enjoyed watching each one. Just something extra to entertain xD Some are pretty cute.

I like the animations, but as has already been stated, RSE sprites (and I'd say graphics in general) are kind of dull. Never really appealed to me as much as the ones from Crystal, or some of the newer games.

I like the animated sprites. They made the game loads better. It's getting a little boring talking about Pokemon so much.
