Punk. Heavy, fast, and lyrics are about issues that affect the world or a community as a whole, not just some guy moaning about his depressing love life. Only punk band I listen to is Rise Against, though, since they're the only non-emoed-up punk band I know of.
Eh, don't get me wrong though, I'm open to all genres of music really.

Emo = do not want! D:

I picked punk, as that's the closest thing to what I like. I'd say that I have a mixture of punk, ska, metal, and good ol' rock n' roll in my blood.

Btw, by 'example of a punk band: Green Day', I hope you mean early Green Day.

I hate BOTH. I like French music and slow music. Romantic music.

hmm, more into other kinds of rock, not much into punk or emo. i love old rock (classic rock) and some other differant types of rock, joe satriani is a personal favourite of mine. instrumental rock :)

I prefer Emo music because I am Emo... :P

I prefer emo, because it usually always has a bit of dance/electronic music in the mix...

I like both, but if i had to choose one, Punk. It's faster and better than other kinds of rock. The only emo band i listen to is Senses Fail, (if they count,) and a lot of punk. so there.

Punk is the closest thing to what i like. Yes i do listen to punk but it ain't the same as Heavy/Death/Black Metal. I like some slow music as you get that "soothing" feeling when your angry. The metal just gives me energy! Hip Hop/Rap, It's ok, some i won't listen to.
Techno (Clubhouse music) better than Slow Music but not as good as metal.

Black and Death Metal are my favourite (sub)genres!!!

But out of the choices I'd definitely say Punk (not Pop Punk), I hate emo music.

    80s and 90s emo kills.
    Punk kills.

I picked punk because I know the owner of this thread said "emo" and meant "crap like MCR and Fall Out Boy."

If you want good emo, listen to Rites of Spring, Sunny Day Real Estate, or Lifetime.

Green Day is like the worst band you could possibly claim is punk. Listen to Black Flag.

Since My Chemical romance is emo, I'll have to go with emo. Punk's cool, too.

I vote neither, just want to make a point to the topic creator...

The genre of emo is merely STYLISTIC. It has nothing to do with emotion splashed into lyrics or music, rather referring to performance and fashion because music and lyrics generally are to be already packed with emotion as a standard. Pease don't tell me a song is emo merely because it bears melancholic lyrics or instrumentation.

I like Acoustic songs a lot, but I don't reallly care what genre the song is. I listen to what i feel for the day. :]

I usually listened to Emo Music, but I've never really thought of it like that.

I listen to Punk Music too, but I really don't care about the genre... They all seem same to me...

Hmm... I dunno... Punk is kinda awesome and fast but i prefer emo music... The lyrics has a deeper meaning and it usually calms me down if im angry or... upset... i think... hehehehe i like emo music but it doesn't mean that im emo... i dont cut myself but i think the hairstyle is super awesome!!
