It's a common complaint that Black and White's encounter rate is way too high. You take one step after a battle and BAM Wild Petilil appeared! ...Again. A similar complaint for GSC was the wild Pokemon levels, which weren't totally fixed in HGSS. So that brings me to my question: do you think the encounter rate will be lowered in B2W2? Will it stay the same? This probably seems meaningless, but you can look at a BW complaint thread and "encounter rate" is probably all over it. Plus people made threads about the damn grass when BW came out, so...

I really hope it's fixed. In a game where they changed the exp gain system, it wasn't a good idea to have the encounter rate sky rocket. I don't run from wild battles, as every little bit counts, so I guess I shouldn't complain much, but it sucks when I'm barely getting any exp points from wild Pokemon, just because I'm a certain amount of levels ahead of them. And when the encounter rate is so high, I'm constantly fighting them. I know I could run or repel, but that takes the fun out. Point is, the encounter rate was crazy and I hope they fix it in B2W2.

This kinda ties into the exp gain system too tbh. Sorry. :(

I've never had an issue with the encounter Rate of the games. They seemed normal to me if not adequately low seeing as I can run through a large patch of grass one and a half times before battle.

I desperately hope it will be lowered. The encounter rate in the puddles of Icirrus especially annoyed me. I mean it's great and all that there's definitely going to be Pokémon out there when I need the EXP, but when I've got places to be, I do not want to see Stunfisk pop up in my face when I'm trying to reach the other end of Icirrus City.

These games are already making out to be really good, lowering the encounter rate would make me more of a happy camper as well. :L

I really hope it's lowered too. :( I didn't mind the encounter rate quite so much the first time I played BW but every time since, it's bothered me immensely. It makes the game almost unplayable at times without repel. I'd be really surprised if they didn't at least tweak it so it's not as obnoxious.

I'm always running from wild battles in Pokemon games after the first gym so it wasn't particularly pleasing to see the encounter rates so high but after playing Pokemon for so long I know how to conserve my money in the games so I would always have enough Super Repels to last me for a long time.

I do hope they increase the shaky grass encounter rate and raise some of the Pokemon's encounter rate, I'm so sick of seeing Drilbur every time I walk into a shaky spot.

Yeah, I hope they're lowered as well. With an additional 150~ I get the feeling that encounters will be anything but lowered, though. I mean I know not all of those are going to be in the wild, as some will be final form evolutions, but still that's a lot of more pokemon to be found.

However, I do hope there's a better variety of water type out in the wild to obtain around the beginning of the game.

    I love the encounter rate tbh. I've never had any issues with it in B/W and I hope it stays the same. If anything I felt caves were better, really. ;x Maybe a higher surfing encounter rate and a lower land one, to kinda make up for that possibly? :3;

If they're gonna raise the surfing encounter rate, they should at least raise the levels of those Frillish, since they're likely the first things you'll encounter Surfing if you go back to explore Routes 17 and 18. I mean, I'm sure they were low because badges no longer controlled HM use, so someone could easily go there after the first gym, but perhaps if someone prevented you from going till you reach a certain point in the game would be nice. Level 24-30 Frillish would be better than like...5-15. That's crappy.

Good Lord they need to drop it. It was insane. Yeah, it kind of made the EXP issue a little easier, but for crying out like I felt like I was inside of a cave filled with Zubats all over again, but I was outside! D:
I have to agree with Forever on the increase in the surfing rate, though. I spent two and a half hours, found three Frillish ONLY, and all were male, not on female. It was beyond aggravating.

I think HS is right, the encounter rate in the caves really bothered me.

    Grass, not so much.

I don't think B/W had annoying encounter rates IMO.

Surfing anyone? I don't know if it's just bad luck on my behalf but every time I'd set sail across the wide oceans of Unova, Pokémon would start attacking insanely. I think the most annoying part about encounter rates is the repetition of the same Pokémon appearing all of the time. Here's to hoping it gets lowered in B2W2. :C

Idk, I honestly didn't have an issue with the encounter rate. However, I didn't like the EXP curve thing very much though. If they got rid of that or changed it for the better that's be nice

After I actually sat down to play White for the first time in forever, I agree that they need to lower the encounter rate. Good grief, so many Tympoles o_e

Eh. The only time I really saw this as a problem in B/W was in Chargestone Cave, but really - I suppose that's what repel are for right? They must have reasons for putting the rate so high I suppose, but there are always repel lying around a cave too. This wouldn't really bother me really. But there are positives for high encounter rates, I always find myself goin straight through grass without exploring, which means going back at a later time for the PokéDex.

Man I hope so. Taking a step in grass, battling, taking two steps, battling, if one didn't have repels.....I'd feel sorry for them.

The encounter rate is a bit annoying but at the same time I can deal with it and dont have enough of a problem with it to see it change in B2/W2. I actually liked encountering more Pokemon, it also means more potential shiny encounters.

This is true, but what if you need to hurry to the Pokémon Center? Or maybe there's a certain place in the game you want to save at, and you don't have much time to get there before you have to go live in reality. :[ I know at these specific times, the encounter rate would drive me insane. 'Tis why it would be fantastic if B2W2 lowered it.
