Evolution of Hacking

Normally, less idiots means more serious.
On the other hand, idiots (and I use the word loosely; no need to be combative) have a tendency to take things too seriously.

Tools are making some stuff better and easier to understand.

Well, I usually understand better when I see a tool working, then I say: "Oh yes! Of course, that's what it modifies! So this byte goes for xxx thing" and so...

Well, I usually understand better when I see a tool working, then I say: "Oh yes! Of course, that's what it modifies! So this byte goes for xxx thing" and so...

But using a tool never really "shows" you which bytes are being edited. Especially now that tools have no INI files for people to check data with... But, you make a point.

I don't want to invoke everyone's anger, but I can understand everyone's points. I know I'm a n00b seeing that I haven't released a beta of my current hack (which I won't get into why because everyone will tell me that I'd be using it as an excuse). Yes, I use mostly tools, but I am also trying to learn how to implement hex into my games (again, I'm still learning). I'm still doing GBA hacks to learn techniques that would become helpful when sinking my teeth into DPP (which I think might be a good idea), but I agree with an earlier comment that tools aren't an issue, but my opinion is that the real issue are people not putting a lot of thought and creativity into their hacks. It's also my opinion that it's not the amount you change the hacks, but whether or not the hack is 'good'.

Of course, I'm the kind of person who believes a good game is one with a decent story, regardless of the graphics. I still play PS1 games along with old GB/C games and I couldn't give a crap about the graphics. It's whether or not the game has a story where you care about the characters. I know that since I mainly use tools that there's a limit to what I can change, but I acknowledge that my true limit is my creativity and how I can use it to my advantage.

I'm sorry if I sound like an egotistical jerk, but all I mean to do is adding my two cents. I know I'm a n00b, that I'm learning, and you guys are a leaque above me and I respect you all.

How'd that sound egotistical? Hear, hear, I guess.

This thread is about the progress of the Rom-hacking throug the time.
Starting from the GameBoy Era, we already get amazed with some cool hacks, like Pokémon Brown or Prism (This isn't that old, as I know, but it's a GBC hack). GB was always a challenge due the lack of tools, but, there were decent hacks.
Then the GBA era came with the amazing EliteMap Suite, made by Kyoufu Kawa and his team. As of 2008, there are many tools that replace that old suite, but in that time Kawa was the "Messiah". Many good hacks came up on this time frame.
But now, the 4th Generation of Pokémon and Rom-Hacking has come (In fact, it camed 2 years ago), the only thing I'm asking right now is: Where are the DPP hacks?
Guys, come on, this isn't like a 108-characther password, for being such an unbreakable thing. Right, hackers are discovering new this these days, there are some people interested on it, like pichu2000 (it reminds me of Pika, for some reason).
I'm quite dissapointed as people has taken DPP hacking as a joke rather than a serious business. We can see people spamming in that thread (and possibly, they may come to this one too, sadly).

People, keep posting your own toughts about the Rom-Hacking story and the actual situation, as well the history of Rom-Hacking itself (Pokémon-related).
"serious business" is where you make it a joke. ;)

The tools are there, it's just this community is too stupid to do anything with them.

Why doesn't someone else?
We're bored of Pokemon. or just don't care.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Err.. well, maybe I could have, but I'm rather lazy and don't feel like adding anything else! :P
