2nd Gen EXP share glitch

I think I found a new gen 2 glitch!
Here are the steps.
You need:
1 EXP share
1 Pokemon

Warning: This is totally optional!
Step 1: Give EXP share to Pokemon.
Step 2: Use Pokemon to faint other Pokemons'.
Step 3: If you do this right you Pokemon should get double EXP.

 

[Devalue]

Tried it quick in Crystal. Started with a level 54 Moltres at 198916 experience.

Fought a level 41 Tangela without the Experience Share. Received 972 experience. Ended at 199888 experience.

Reset. Equipped the Experience Share on Moltres. Fought another level 41 Tangela. Earned 486 experience twice. Ended at 199888 experience.

No difference, in other words. Are there any other steps?

Interesting find! Sounds like an EXP stacking quirk—could be a hidden Gen 2 mechanic or oversight.
