    Has anyone noticed how most of the main anime girls have had a fear of some kind? With Misty, it was Bug types, with May, it was Tentacool, with Dawn, it was Plusle & Minun, and with Iris it was Ice-types. Were these fears "irrational"? Which one of these girl's fears do you feel could have been conquered or handled better? I still want closure on Misty's out of nowhere Bug fear, as I never remember it being covered.
     
    I think Misty's bug fear was just the fact that it was a stereotype for girls to hate bugs at the time. A very common one at that. So I don't think it was out of the blue.

    I do wish they would give it a story. Compared to the other ones, they have a reason.

    I think that only Dawn was the one who got passed her fear. I can't remember if she got completely over though. Serena didn't have a fear.

    It would have been nice for May to have an episode to befriend a Tentacuel, or even catch one. Iris, I am not really caring for. I love Ice types so I can't be mean to them lol.

    Misty... I wish they had actually developed her character to get over it, even maybe catching a water/bug type.

    With Misty's phobia of bugs, this was not out of the ordinary. A lot of girls her age would react the same. Though it kinda conflicted with the rest of her tomboyish personality, a lot of people just can't stand bugs. :P She did overcome it with Ash's Caterpie personally. It goes without saying her's was the most realistic.

    May and Dawn both had childhood "trauma" that caused their fear. If I remember right, May was simply circled by a bunch of Tentacool who didn't attack her from what I remember. With Dawn, she was actually zapped and embarassed by her post-zapped apearance. Dawn did overcome it and put up with being around them, and was really the only one to overcome it.

    As for Iris, her ice fear seemed to be simply thrown in because of Dragon type's weakness to ice/ice types. While I understand relating to her Pokemon's feelings, this was just too over the top and felt it was just witten in there "just cause". I may be missing the humor in it, but I'd of atleast liked to see her have to really deal with it in some way but that never really happened.

    Just my thoughts, not an expert on every little detail of the anime. :)
     
    Yeah Iris' Ice fear was kinda.... understandable, but a trainer really shouldn't be scared like she was.

    Misty still didn't really get over her fear a 100% though. During Johto, she was still scared of bugs during the Bug Catching Competition.
