4th Gen Fair Hacking: "Fair?" or advantage?

Just wondering but, If I hacked some events (like mew, celebi, jirachi, deoxys, uhm..the other ones) meaning not the ones that aren't out yet so that I have a chance to complete the pokedex, would that be considered cheating?

as long as you don't use them, or didn't give them perfect iv/ev's.

Back on FR I hacked movesets A LOT. Glitchy at best, but it was the bomb. Never did I hack IVs, EVs, or stats, yet I hacked in some Pokemon and a whole ton of money. Not to mention the Pokemon modifer code, which made EV training a whole lot easier. I hacked events to get to the Pokemon islands and catch them. Stuff came along and erased my 'hard work,' but you get the deal.

Disliking hacking is inversely related to how much you do it.

i don't think shiny hacking, or any kind of hacking is ok.

for one, shinies are rare, and takes alot of work to get them, so whats the point if you know you cheated to get them. As long as there not trying to be traded on here for pokemon you can't hack, you can go and corrupt your cartridge all you want.
IV hacking... No, even if you stay inside the 31 IV lines, it's still not okay if your gonna be battling other people., that's just cheap, because everyone else is working there butts of trying to get there.
No hacking is "fair" unless your just gonna be playing with other hackers. Here is my own personal rule: Anything outside of the normal relm of the game, besides events, is unfair. I think glitching is fair in its own way, and is unfair in it's own way too. Glitching to get pokemon that are impossible to get is unfair, while glitch cloning, is debatable.

Here's the answer guys:

1) You're a Pokemon player who likes both the trading and the battling aspect, and hacking is wrong
2) You're a strictly competitive player who doesn't really care about the trading part, and hacking is fine

So then, Beachboy, the question is who are you, and what kind of players are you playing with?

NOTE: I'm not supporting subjectivity, it's just that Pokemon can really be played like two different games, and because of that it can have different rules.

I'm ok with all hacking long as it stays within boundries.

- Pokemon Modifier Codes (AKA determines if it's shiny or what level it is or what species) are ok in my book, long as you don't make a team of six Arceus' somehow.

- 999 of all Items/TMs/HMs doesn't really matter either. Some TMs are useful such as Grass Knot or Stealth Rock yet you can only get those two once as a TM.

- Editing EVs and/or IVs makes me a bit upset, but long as it's fair enough that it doesn't break any rules and is somewhat average in IVs, I'm ok with it.

- Max Cash, now how would I know about that. It's useful to get potions and pokeballs and such.

Of course, I do that all except editing IVs/EVs (I prefer to take the long route for that), to make the fact that I often make twelve new teams per day easier.

I'm an extremely competitive player, made the top 100 on shoddy, and soon to be the water gym leader over at the EGL. That's who I am.
Now, I play competitive people, but some of my good friends hack, and I consistently must argue with them all on the definition of fair hacking, and I was wondering where does EVERYONE ELSE, draw the line, on ivs or whatnot.

I'm still in swing with debate here...

But im asking you all, remember that, also some of you, please stay on topic...

I want to know everyone's fair definition of hacking, and what they think their line in the sand is. Ok Thanks ;D

Yes, that's why we're trying to make one universal line. ;)

Again, that's more their problem than anything, it's not that hard to get your hands on hacks. :/

It wouldn't be fair hacking anymore, but just plain hacking, now wouldn't it?

The reasons (correct me if I'm wrong) that people ban steroids is because
1) They're very dangerous to your health, something hacking isn't
2) Exercise (the long, normal way) is very good for your health, but remember that breeding (the other long, normal way) doesn't have any health benefits!

I think most people despise hacking because it destroys something so integral to many people's Pokemon experience, and that's the collecting and trading. I personally think it's just goofy to spend hours unlocking everything in a game, or in this case collecting, especially when with a hacking device you could access everything you paid for in a couple seconds. But alot of people like the whole collecting thing, and don't want to be reminded what it really is (just unlocking bits of your data) by hackers. So they ban them. :(

1.we're not talking about making a universal line.we're talking about we're everyone draws theres.

2.its not that hard to get your hands on hacks but not everyone wants to do it

3.I'm not comparing steroids with hacking as I am comparing lengths some people will go to to be better.Ethics dose play a part because there are people that spend hours upon hours breeding because thats just how the game goes and others use a cheating device to get what they want in seconds, which is not exactly wrong because they payed for it so they can do what they want but other people just want no part of it and prefer to trade there hard worked on poke for another hard worked on poke.Kind of like Equivalent Exchange. No right or wrongs answers here just a discussion

I've been considering starting a thread of this nature for ages now, but I didn't know how to word the first post. Thank you BeachBoy.

Recently, Shiny Umbreon, TwilightBlade, and I have had individual discussions on hacked Pokemon and our views on it. The two of them come from a "school of thought" that has dominated PC for years now: any form of hacking is bad. However, I come from a different train of thought: hacking is fine as long as it has limitations. I hack. I'm not afraid to say it. My Action Replay is my friend. However, I have limitations on what I hack. I hack for items and TMs. I hack so wild Jynx, Machamp, etc appear in the wild so I can catch them. I do hack for IVs. However, I never hack perfect IVs. I've been breeding since the days of Gold/Silver/Crystal. And frankly, I'm tired of it. Though I've never been a huge battler here on the PokeCommunity (ironic seeing as I'm the Moderator this section - I would battle if my campus's Wi-Fi was compatible with the Nintendo DS), I think I've earned the right for an easy way out. It doesn't help I'm swamped with school and family life, so spending time on IV breeding is out of the picture.

However, I would never hack for anything that is impossible to obtain in-game. Things such as illegal move sets, abilities, and EVs are totally off limits. I still EV train every Pokemon, and level them up. That's where I draw a line on hacking.

Perfect IVs don't give you a huge advantage in battle. Sure, you may have a few point advantage over other Pokemon, but overall it's the skill, intelligence, and coalescence of a team that wins battles.
