Don't let those silly sheep who think it is good to hate on something they don't know anything about get you down. I personally like Twilight, though I have only read the first book.

...I've red the entire series - all four books - and Jacob and Rosalie are the only redeeming points.

Let's say that a fic features Ash, but he is completely, totally out of character (or has an altered backstory ets.) - even to the point that he can't really be recognized as Ash anymore. Can the author really say their fic features Ash or should it be called an original character instead?

It's still technically Ash, even if he's been OOC'd into oblivion. If it goes to such an extreme that he looks completely different and the only relation to canon Ash is a first name, then in that case it would be fair to call him an OC.

Eh... it's alright. I don't hate it with a passion like some people do around here *coughSparklescough* but I don't really like it, either. :P

I personally think the fanfiction is better than the actual series, :P

I think it would still be 'Ash' I mean, that's his name, that's his identity; but the author should let the readers know he is out of character.

True, you read it and you either have a good or bad reaction.

Although, when I was younger, my alarm clock was always set on saturday mornings for Pokemon! :)
I can't tell you how many nightmares I had of missing my cartoons XP

I was more "meh" towards it. Neither love nor hate. :P

When I was younger, Pokémon was always on after school. And then they stopped that. Who knows, maybe it's on Saturdays now, but I'm way too much of a night owl to get up early on a Saturday. XD;

I was crushed when they stopped after school cartoons, that and when they switched up voice actors. :(

I think it shows on cartoon network now, idk really. Haven't watched it in a couple years. ALTHOUGH, on saturday mornings, my little brother watches Dinosour King. The evil lady in that is played by the same lady who played Jessie in the original Pokemon cartoons.

I don't ever get up past 8:30 anyway, so I still watch Pokémon every Saturday on Cartoon Network, including tomorrow.

I just watch it whenever it comes on. The only thing is, they seem to be stuck on Chim-Charred. Three times out of four, I'll see Pokemon on and flick over to CN, only to find it's that dumb episode. There's only one program I watch with any regularity, which is Legend of the Seeker on Monday nights, but that's finished now. I'd like to watch Naruto every weekday night, too, but Mum and Dad just don't get it.

Then this is Ash Ketchum, created by a failure anime-verser, not Ash Ketchum, the wannabe Pokemon Master.

Boleh kita berjumpa lagi

Batang selasih permainan budak
Berdaun sehelai dimakan kuda
Bercerai kasih bertalak tidak
Seribu tahun kembali juga

Orang Aceh sedang sembahyang

Pergilah kasih pergilah sayang
Pandai-pandailah menjaga diri

Jika tidak melarat panjang
Ada umur ketemu lagi

Tahun mana bulan mana
Dapat kita berjumpa lagi?

That was an example of the things I'm forced to learn in school and will not be learning in University.

No, if the author says it's Ash and has a reasonable explanation as to how he got changed so drastically(i.e.parallel universe) then yeah, it is still Ash.

I stopped watching Pokemon a long time ago. Not because I hate it or thought it was childish, but because it's not shown anymore from where I'm from. I do however, watch Naruto because frankly, I like to watch all anime. Currently watching FMA Brotherhood.

That's pretty much the reason I stopped watching, Mizan. :P

I only have free-to-air TV, though, so that's probably why. XD;

I wouldn't count it as Ash, unless if the backstory was that he went through some event that was so traumitizing (or he had some severe amnesia) that they could redeem it in there own manner.

As for the Twilight stuff, the reason why I don't read it, is because I was shocked to find out that it basically condones pedophilia, and that Bella is a submissive girl. Any sort of feminism in that book seems to be totally disregarded. That's how I also found out about https://www.ladiesagainstfeminism.com/

Yeah... I may be a guy, but I'd want to be with a strong willed, and smart woman...

Also if people want me to make another "prophesy" in the future, feel free to ask. ;)

What, seriously! I had no idea. I'm not a girl but I'm against sexism (or something similar like over submissiveness)

The basic err with romance novels is that women fall for the man (regardless of the plot). Because it more or less is a sexual story, a romance novel depends on a character to submit to the other. Not only is this "erotica" but it also helps to drive the plot. This is why they are so effective to the age the books are written for.

I believe this to be a fair review: https://www.slashfilm.com/2008/12/0...roying-america-and-harming-our-nations-youth/

This would basically sum up an argument between a hater and a fan though, as excerpted from the above article:

"If I can condemn vigilantism and stand up for due process while still enjoying 24 and Batman pictures (or pulp fiction like The Devil's Advocate), then feminists can certainly enjoy Twilight."

On the other hand, Rowling's Hermoine Granger has been lauded as being an excellent female role model. And in fact, the whole wizarding world is much more accepting of women. Such examples are found in many portions of the book, one simple example is mixed gender sports team (in the sport of quiddich).

Basically. The books seriously lack any form of substance and are rifled with Mary Sues. I hate to say it, but it is. The term is thrown around like bored monkeys in a zoo, but for once anyone can say it without being wrong. The books suck, and anything that suggests it's okay to raise a baby from infancy solely for the purpose to have sex with her is undeniably wrong.

I don't believe that in any way should a canon character's personality and backstory be changed and still suggested to be that same character despite it. If you want to work time travel or parallel universes in (Celebi, Palkia, go for it), fine, but otherwise you're just restraining yourself and putting off potential readers. Don't imply one thing and build expectations only to do the opposite.

However, canon characters can be developed and change into a "new" person over time, as long as you take care to show the process or give sufficient flashbacks that explain why you've started post the character's transformation. (A good story would be totally surprising people by making Ash intelligent and mature, and leading them on with promise of finding out why).

But I'm sticking with game-Red in my own fic, simply because he's never been developed into anything his absolute own. Ash and manga-Red have clearly strayed so far away from the game-Red that they're brand-new characters.

So basically, the book is all about erotica and the such. But yeah, I agree, if there's no conflict in between the love interest and the protagonist (such as in Casablanca) and the two finally hook up and ..... then basically the whole point is that it was erotica to begin with. Is that what you're trying to say?

Seconded.

Thirded.

And yeah, now I'll go back to do something else after agreeing about how awesome something is compared to Twilight.
