The "green forum" is serebii.net's forum.

And "XD" is a sideways smiley. If you tilt your head...

Niko's going to be mad at you for saying that :P

I knew Green Forum and XD ... I was just being a n00b and asking for no reason 0o;; Sorry.

My avater's supposed to be funny BTW XD

oh, you already knew about serebii.net and XD? I looked at your post count before I replied and was like "how does this guy have nigh-4,000 posts and not know what 'the green forum' refers to?"

EDIT: Ah yes, I had a question! What are people referring to when they mention "canon"?

I think that canon refers to the human characters who already exist... Ash and Misty and all them. I don't know if it includes game characters, I usually associate the term with anime. Well, some of the anime characters were from the game, heh, so I guess it includes them too.

Iveechan is correct. The canon refers to anything that already exists in Pokemon (not only humans or anime... the setting or the manga too, for example.) You can take out stuff from the canon and not include them in your fanfic, but the canons cannot be changed. They can only be removed totally.

Most people only take part of the canon, for example, game only or anime only. There's a few fanfics that combine multiple parts of the canon, but none even tried to deal with Haruka/Sapphire, Kenta/Gold, Marina/Crys, Shigeru/Green, and/or Satoshi/Red in the same fanfic.

Interesting. My fic breaks some "canon" rules then. But, it was bound to happen; I haven't watched the show since 99, and haven't seen the movies. Is this really a major problem, though?

Well, it just features an English speaking legendary. Namely Celebi.

Thanks for the feedback. It was frowned upon by someone else, and I just wanted to know what the general consensu was.

You see... I don't really have all of the volumes. Blame Viz because they stopped printing them. I've been able to keep track because I had connections before and I was still interested in Pokemon in general. However, now, I've disconnected my ties to Pokemon in general. In truth, I just go here to post my stories and still trying to give the Pokemon Manga the respect it deserves. Because of that, I've lost the storyline right when the Ru/Sa arc began. I just have a vague summary of them (and no, I don't go to SPP). Kind of making me look like a hypocrite praising me like that. (But I do appreciate it...) but then it makes me feel guilty and all... I did try my best to get the manga its respect and I was its fan ever since the beginning.

Ya know, Niko, if you wanted to get them you could order them in from Singapore. That's what I did; and I thought there'd be no hope in getting the post-Viz volumes.

Try What!Comics; you'll have to place a special order through the email, though. That's how I got mine ^.^ *huggles her books happily* and now I'm a loyal fan.

*leaves before she gets thrown out for off-topic posting*

Talking Pokemon appear to be common in fics these days.

Don't forget how 3/4 of them are simply terribly done... if the canon is to be changed, there better be a darn good reason and a transition on how the change is to be done.

Something that I've been wondering for a long time...

I recalled a time where I've been told where my writing was a bit basic. I know that my vocabulary isn't the best, but then again, I'm not very active in literature. There are times where I have to look up words when I come across them in fics. I read very few novels (usually for school, which I don't have to worry about dealing with until this October), so I'm not 100% familiar with them despite my attempt to change my writing style from script to narrative.

Since word usage one of the important thing in fics, is it better to be familar with a large variety of words? If that's the case, then I feel pretty stupid that my vocabulary is probably nowhere near a high school graduate's.

there's many websites out there that provides synonym lists, or other words that mean the same. I personally uses www.thefreedictionary.com to help. They show a list of words similiar or related to the word you've looked up on top of explaining what is the word. Best part is that they show you a few sentences on how the word is used in famous literatures, so you get to see how they're used in context in order to check their mood, atmosphere and tone. So that can help with the vocabulary problem...

However, there's no cure to the lack of reading... more you read, the better you speak, and the better you write. Without reading, it's difficult to learn what "good sentences" are like, and how you have to improve in order to write from "decent sentences" to "good sentences." Some of these things are straight from reading, and nowhere else.
