Fanfiction Lounge

Why Naminé has not visited the fanfiction lounge for such a long time, and indeed it is busy with activities all of a sudden. She wonders what brought forth this sudden change, especially when it should be quiet due to the examination period as well...

It feels to Naminé that there is always more "random fanfics" that are usually not the most well written than stories that are entertaining to read. Most new fanfic writers start off on such a path, it seems, so perhaps every new blood starts with such a type of fanfic. Why, that is why there is a need for more reviewers in order to give them a few pointers so they can be directed on to the right path~

Keep Tryin', Naminé!

More people are getting out of school. Lucky. I still have to suffer through a Physics exam tomorrow.

Actually, there were very few random humor entries... but not enough witty ones for my liking which is probably what I'm complaining about lol. They were pretty good though.

Sometimes random humor CAN be funny if used sparingly. One after the other though is overkill.

Me not so good at witty. XD

Yeah, random can be good, but if you have a pie fall out of the sky and then an army of ants come from nowhere and start dancing the macarina, it can get a little overwhelming.

You read them all, then Breezy?

I saw Shakespeare in love for the first time today. :) Before, I thought Shakespeare was a boring old sod. Now, my whole view of him has changed, and I can now enjoy his stories more. :D

Read all of what? The random fics or the entries? I've read what Iccky sent me and reviewed a few but I think there's more... Plus some people want to send in their revised versions of their entries so I have to rewrite my review for said stories.

Least one more day of school though na? =3

Yeah, the fics. :)

^.^;; *is one of those members*

XD

Sorry about that Breezy...

Only one day? *is jealous* I have until July. ¬.¬

I was out the second.

*Ducks from various sharp objects thrown at me*

I tried before. Does that count?

Oh em gee, sweaty happy member. :O

I'm out of school now though. So it's all good. We only get so long for this vacation though. Two months or so? Or maybe it was always that long. Either way, it's boring no matter what.

I've been out since May 15th. w00t!

Yeah, on Serebii, a member asked me to read their fic. It was the same type of humor all the time. He kept on having all the male characters have "male purses." I didn't find it funny the first time, and I didn't find it funny the fifty other times it was mentioned. :x

My first story, that was actually coherent, was about four cats who travel across America. They never made it to NC though. D:

I hope you find more time to be on the forums, Naminé. I like your reviewing style.

Oh yeah, I read that story too. The murse gave a small chuckle once in a while, but the REAL funny parts were the gym leaders!

Anyway, do you go to colledge Hanako? Because then that doesn't count. :/

So sorry that my college semester ended before anyone else else got out of school. T'is also a shame, that I spend three hours in class. That's each class, there, my dear. In my high school, class was only a half-hour long. Made me happy that I spent $2500 dollars to go to class, per semester. (And books. Perty college books that hurt ol' Matsuki's back...) But no... I'm not bitter that ya said that college don't count. Just kinda wondering if they have that course on how to be an editor, 'cause Matsuki here needs ta take it.

(Please excuse the awful grammar in that paragraph. Matsuki here ain't feeling too with it.)

Sa'well, because I have started writing in my fic again. And at 6:00 in the morning, sitting in the dew-covered chair.

Oh well, I'm still kind of wondering how some people get away with calling beginner fics "pathetic" and get god-dom, while I say that the writer mis-spelled a few Pokémon names, and I make the writer cry.

...

X3 Which I'm strangely proud of. Oh well.

Also wondering what makes a fic great. I will never know, as no one can agree. So I'll just shut up. (Others: "Would you please?)

College? Goodness are you older than me... XD

Yeah, different writers have different tolerants to CC. The only way I deal with it is by making sure I don't get to big headed, I keep myself modest about my fics. XD That way I can accept it so much easier. XD

What makes a fic great... Like you said, each person hs different opinions. Me? I don't really like Jacqueline Wilsons book. Too miserable for me. Yet others love them. XD It all depends on personal preference...

..I sent ages writing the beginning of a story yesterday. Then I lost half of it. :( It was perfect before, but now it is rubbish... :( Ah well...

Maybe it's because they are afraid someone who is a fan of Pikachu will get mad of them just because the writer mispelled it:P?

Well, I guess it depends on what the writer's expectations on their writing. If they knew their story sucks, then they are okay with it. If they think their fic is the greatest in the world then a reviewer came and say that story needs some work, then they will cry thier eyes out.

What makes a fic great? To me, the first is orginally. If I see a fic here that has orginally in it, like the story is not one of those cliche Pokemon journey fics, then that's a start. Also, another way of how a fic is great is liked katiekitten said, it depends on the writer's tastes. For instance, I don't like science that much so that is why I don't read sci-fic fics and novels.

Being modest about your own writing is one of the best things you can do - then constructive criticism - well meant as it may be - doesn't sting quite so much. (Everyone knows it stings, even if you are looking for constructive criticism.) As long as it isn't an all-out flame, I think we should be happy for what reviews we do get, and criticism is usually made to help the writer find his own faults (which he or she may not be able to see themselves) so they can prevent such a thing occurring in the future.

Being modest is one thing, but going on and on about how sucky you writing is another thing altogether.
Some of the writers who have that idea planted in their head are the best I have ever read.

Of course, I have seen well written stories that have authors with the biggest egos I've ever come across in other fandoms, and that often ruins my enjoyment of their stories when they make a habit of looking down on everyone but themselfs.

Often, if the author has been around for a long time and has a certain level of fame, they no longer seem to take constructive criticism, or worst yet, have a little army of followers who shoot down the reveiwer with flames for all their well meant words :P. This is very common on Fanfiction.net, in pretty much every fandom.

I had that happen once, with a published author. I said her characters seemed somewhat wooden and unrealistic and boy oh boy did I get an ear full O.o

I try to avoid it, really I do, but I'm afraid that despite my attempts my ego is without a doubt bigger than it should be. I can still take CC- that's something that came with experience, though. In my early writings I hated it.

When I first started writing in the little realm of PE2K, I was a little cocky. Just a little. XD I could still take crit, the problem was I didn't get any. So I spent quite a while thinking my fic was quite good. It wasn't. XD

People with big egos do sometimes annoy me. Especially when I give them crit, and they refuse it. Not rudely, he'd just point out something wrong with what I said and ignore the message. I was very insistant, though, and he finally backed down. XD

...How does anyone get reviews on FF? O.o XD

Well, just becuase a few people say it is not good does not make it a fact however. What matters in the end is your own feeling about it, unless you are going to have a story seriously published, then making sure a story 'sells' is the main aim. Sometimes, I do think fanfic is taken a bit too seriously and that takes much of the enjoyment out of the writing. I write fic to get away from college, not to be draged back into it on my time off :P.

Eh, good point. This particular person, however knew that there were things wrong and asked for help. But yeah, sometimes Fanfic is taken to seriously. :)
