Ahhh yes, you're feeling the effects of our lovely little snow storm, I assume! You know, sweeping across Canada, giving snow to places that barely get any and whatnot. ^^

Yeah, my school was one of the few in the entire country that didnt close. Go figure. o.O

Off topic: luckily I'm on the coast so that inland is getting the brunt of it. I wore my shorts to and from school today (not because it was warm but because I was being stubborn to the people who told me to wear pants.)

On Topic...or Question, rather: I'm having a lot of trouble with names... Can anyone list off a couple of male/female human names? (prefferably ones with pet forms or can be cut to have nicknames)

Heh. Don't you hate it when that happens? We got some ice the other day, which is a guaranteed snow day. :) Anyway...

I'm not going to promise reviews to anyone, but reviews will be coming. They will just be handed out based on a point and click deal. All reviews will be in the main fanfiction forum, however. No Bin reviews since I really don't feel like doing anything in there.

Don't worry about it. I know all about being behind (seeing as I still am. XD). Being a mod makes it lots easier to catch up, doesn't it? :D Anyway, I'll try to do a couple of Bin reviews as soon as I catch up.

What about fanfic archives? *prods the poor, unviewed section* xP Just joking, do whatever you have time for.

Sorry about sort of derailing the topic up there. ^_^;

Anyway...

You could probably poke around Behind the Name (which, uh, I think might've already been brought up), but to simplify, some of the more common male and female names that share nicknames (assuming that's what you mean, and if not, hey, I killed two birds with one stone):

Alexander and Alexandra, which ends up being Alex either way.
Christopher/Christoph and Christina = Chris.
Samuel and Samantha = Sam
Anthony and Antonia = Tony
Daniel and Danielle = Dan/Dani
Joseph and Josephine/Josephina = Jo(e)
John and Jacqueline = Jack
Victor and Victoria = Vic(k)
William/Wilbur/whatever and Willow/Wilma/whatever = Will
Patrick and Patricia = Pat

From off the top of my head, at least. I'm sure there's more.

Or did you want gender-neutral names? O.o

Just as a less useful appendage to Jax's post, babynames.com is the site I always use for names. It has a lot of uncommon ones, and is generally pretty awesome.

And well, technically, anything can be truncated.

I personally use Baby Names World when I need to chose a human name. Then again, I use different cultures in my writings and I found it easier to search that site.

But as Act said, any name can be shortened. My mother chose a name that was short enough that I wouldn't be subjected to shortened nicknames. For a name that's only four letters long and is not known to shortening, I sure seem to get a lot of nicknames based on my name.

I worship Behindthename.com (click here) Even more than those baby name sites you mentioned, but all of them are really handy. It depends on your preference.

Half of the names in my fic come from this site. I highly recommend it for all name purposes.

I'm not horriffic at making up names, but after a while they all start to sound the same. I'm just not veyr creative beyond 10 names or so.

So then I just go to babynames/beyondnames/whatever and take pieces and put them together and such.

Thanks to diamondpearl876's late-night beta, I was able to post chapter ten tonight!

Please read and review as I catch up to all your fics...

I kinda find it easy to come up with names. All I really do is run through names of kids in my classes and see which one appeals to me. However, when you live somewhere where most of the people are from one race and you see the same name repeated about a dozen of times, that's where I run into problems. I'll check out those sites you guys mentioned so I don't recycling names like "Alex" or "Amanda". xD

( Yeah, the prelude to one of my fics is up, link in my sig for anyone that wants to read =P )

Ew, PhantomKat on PC?! Just kidding.. Welcome to our crazy peaceful fanfiction section. I'd recommend reading her work, guys; she's pretty good... even though I haven't read Raven Engagement yet myself. :P

And, yes, Glajummy, I am all powerful.

I'll review yours tomorrow, like I said.

Also, finding human names is easy to me, too. I use a few sites to find a meaning that relates to their personality and find a name that's appealing, and nothing too weird. Boom. Done. Probably the hardest thing I have problems with is actually starting to write. :P

Ack...

I guess my words were lost within the board.

I literally need some CRITICISM.

(Checks through a few threads) O.o

Seriously, the drama happens each time I am busy with schoolwork! I like drama! XD

(coughs)

Anyways, on the name subject...I think I mentioned it before but I think I am the only one that does not make a big deal with what I want to name my character. I don't know, I just don't want to spend too much energy whether someone will call Nicky Mickey. XD It's good though that all of you guys are taking the time to consider the names. ^^ As to where I get my names, most of the time it is either a name of one of my friends or from movies.

Also, Chapter Three of "Nothing, Everything" shall be posted whenever my beta reader gets it done. I send it to her just last night. ^^ Lastly, reviews will take some time...I am bombarded with homework and I have finals coming up. >.>

Meh, I come up with all the names in my fics off the top of my head. Well...sort of. Yeah...

Hey Divinity! Heh, all of the writers from Sppf are coming over here, eh? :)

*clears throat* Okay, so I finished purple_drakes review. Very nice as well. Two really great One-Shots, and I liked the both. So...I think I'm going to do one more review tonight, so I'll go review your new chap, Glajummy.

Brock_Lee now has a review, it's off to TurtleKing's! And yes, the fic is open in another tab and I have a Word document open at the ready, which means that chapter one of his fic will be reviewed!

If I can stop being distracted!

When I need to name a character, I just start off with whatever name pops into my mind when the character is written about. If I want a better name, then I look for a name with a particular meaning that fits into the culture of the fic I'm writing about. Like my main character for my Pokemon fic has an Irish name that means "little fire" (which was, surprisingly, not on Behind The Name, along with a few other Japanese names I'm using). Then I roll with the name a little bit to see if I like it enough to use it, and if I do, then it stays.

It's kind of like when I had to name my cat. I had a long list of names that were thought off, and the family tested them all out before deciding on the name she has now.

And Bay, if you don't want to miss anything, stay home from school! It's what I did today!

Thank you!

I've been itching for a decent review.

I swear I'm growing weary of those " Your fic is awesome! " comments. I really want to know what I need to improve on.
