Fall Out Boy is punk rock. They're not the best buut...

Gahh. I hate Plain White Ts

    I like Heavy Metal/Punk Rock

    Please take that back.

    Oww. My soul died.

Nah. Come on and describe what is emo, then we talk.

In fact, emo doesn't really connote a musical style, rather following the spontaneous & miserable nature of the so-called 'musicians' and their feeble woe-is-me lyrics. It's more about the strange emotional approach in any guitar-based music, mostly indie rock and pop punk.

But bah, the few times I had the disgrace of listening to FOB I could tell they're mainly punk rock/pop punk. God forbid they're moronic enough to try emo.

    EDIT: @mcrc: Exactly.

Actually Steven, at one time, it did. Emotive hardcore was actually at one time a respectable, nice musical genre. Sure, I know you're not into the punk thing but still. You should at least give it a try, I'd say.

To make you re-check your perspective, here's a song to check out...not all punk songs are just big dumb three power chord pop songs.

    Look up

    Long Division by Fugazi

    I don't think you'll be disappointed.

But anyway, I don't care what you call Fall Out Boy, but Fall Out Boy is not punk. If anything, they're closer to being a boy band. They're the uglier version of the Backstreet Boys plus guitars and pretentiously over-written song lyrics and song titles.

I think I just made a new genre. Pretention rock for the win!

You'd be surprised how many people don't even know what is punk nowadays. I do, and I know why, because I used to relate to it.

Besides that being from mighty Wikipedia, all the article tells me is physical and lyrical characteristics(some of which I mentioned here before), nothing more. The music itself still is merely styilzed HC Punk, John.

Oh, I know Fugazi. But FOB is POP punk, which basically means fake punk (slang term) and you might know why. We both know where punk lays its roots and why it is called that way. Pop Punk is a washed out, rather sugary and mainstream form of Punk, and when you get to know it you realize why Punk Rock and Pop Punk are different.

Calling FOB a boy band would be way too literal, as it is calling Pink Floyd pop. Oh yeah, many people consider PF pop. That's my whole point. Emo is a literal way to take hardcore punk, best thing we could say to define emo would be a melodic and more stable approach to that genre.

Maybe FOB is simply mainstream pop rock, but I really don't care.

I'm sure many people here have heard of The Ramones, or The Sex Pistols.

I'm not too sure on my favourite Genre...although.
    I. I listen practically only to music from 1950-1989
II. Unless it's Japanese or particulary different.
    So yeah...I'll say Retro.

Nah, it's okay. I don't love them either, I put them up as an example of early Punk Rock. I respect people's taste in music-- what sickens me sometimes is how genres like Pop, Punk and Emocore are misinterpreted, even if I'm not fond of them.

My point still stands, FOB is not Emo. Fugazi, as said by John, is a good example of what "emo" is.

has anyone else listened to the band the dresden dolls?

Yeah, I've heard a couple of their songs - they're pretty good ^^

I hate the way so many bands are thrown into the so-called 'emo' genre for no apparent reason. Bands like My Chemical Romance (I have a massive mild obsession xD), Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco, and Taking Back Sunday are always classified as 'emo' bands, and yet I can see very little reason why. Want an emo band? Try Versus World - I think their song 'Love Every Scar' pretty much sums 'emo' up xD.

As for the actual thread topic - I like mainstream rock, heavy metal, punk, alternative, pop punk... Whatever. If it's rock, I like it.

i think blues is good but only some kind's but from some kind's of arti artist's like ne-yo or akon and stuff

I think you deserve to be shot for identifying blues with R&B artists like Ne-Yo and Akon.

For the record: Blues =/= R&B

It might mean "Rhythm & Blues", but it's not "Blues." Go listen to B.B. King, Bessie Smith, or other great Blues artists if you want Blues.

Scythemaster: You do realize that without The Sex Pistols and The Ramones, Nirvana wouldn't exist and if Nirvana wouldn't exist, mainstream wouldn't exist, therefore, these bands like FOB and MCR don't exist. :o
