Favorite Legendary Pokemon

I've always liked Mewtwo. It's such an amazing Pokemon in gen I, and though I haven't used it too much since then (I don't use legendaries that frequently), I recall training up the one I got in Red and using it in Stadium and Stadium 2. There's something to be said for the joy of catching your first major legendary, for traversing a darkened cave (which seemed especially dark with gen I graphics) and tossing your Master Ball at the most powerful Pokemon in the game. Catching Mewtwo was quite the event, and I still remember the day I got my first one.

It's obviously not Zekrom. I mean, really, why would I like that thing?

......Oh, wait, this is why:
Zekrom said:
For starters, dragons are my favorite mythical creature (and so also my favorite Pokemon type). I find them to be interesting; they appear in multiple cultures with varying (and usually cool looking) appearances and meanings. In some cultures they represent power and wisdom, while in others they represent evil. Visually speaking, I've always like the appearance of black dragons more than any other dragon color. And Zekrom is black, so...

More specifically about Zekrom itself, I love it partly because of its role in Black/White. Black and White had the best story of any Pokemon game, imo, and the fact that Zekrom is a major part of that story just makes me like it even more. What I also like about it is what it represents on a broad scale: the duality of all things. The whole Yin/Yang, truth vs ideals thing that Zekrom and Reshiram have going. It's a fascinating concept to me, that seemingly opposing things are actually part of a greater whole, and both need the other in order to exist. It even jives a bit with part of my world view that things are almost never Black and White (derp, see what I did there?), but are usually a mix of both things. That's often how things are in reality.
Seriously, how many Pokemon represent something so deep sounding?

Zekrom is also great for battle. So is Reshiram, but what Zekrom has over it is the fact that it is one of the very few physical Electric attackers in the game (Electric is my 4th favorite type, btw). The vast majority of Electric types are specially based, so its easy to counter them in general with special walls. Not the case with Zekrom though. And while it misses out on being neutral to Fairy like Reshiram, its one of the only Pokemon in Ubers to resist Flying, and can easily threaten titans like Lugia, Ho-oh, and Kyogre with the strongest Electric attack in the game, STAB Bolt Strike. Hell, Bolt Strike 2HKOs the majority of the Pokemon in the Uber tier. It does suck that both its STABs have Pokemon with immunities to it, and its movepool is a bit lacking, by hey, you can't get everything.

I also don't hate Reshiram; I like it quite a bit too (and Kyurem, I like it as well). Sometimes I get the feeling that people assume I dislike the rest of the Tao Trio because Zekrom's my favorite.

I love Mewtwo, but one thing I have to say against it is that this Pokémon always seems to get more credit than it truly deserves, similarly to Arceus. Both of these Pokémon are portrayed as god-like creatures, and because of that, most newer fans would immediately cling to them; when you go online battling and see people filled with a team of these two Pokémon, that more or less explains it.

I would agree that Mewtwo is probably overrated overall (as is Arceus, though I don't hear about it quite as much). However, with psychic dominance in gen 1 and the relatively small number of options at the time, Mewtwo was pretty overpowered. The fact that there was only a single special stat (so Mewtwo got base 154 special attack and special defense), coupled with Amnesia's sharply raising that stat, helped Mewtwo as well. Mewtwo definitely got taken down a few notches in gen 2 and beyond, though.

Deoxys was one of my very first favorite Pokemon as a child. I liked the movie he was featured in, it was one of my favorites. The fact that he was able to transfer into forms who specialize in a certain stat is also cool and mysterious as well. I used to think he was the strongest Pokemon ever, was kinda disappointed he wasn't - but it didn't ruin my love for him.

Jirachi, Lugia and Rayquaza were also longtime favorites. I liked Jirachi, not only is he good competitively, but he is a unique legendary and has a great concept. Most of the "cute" legendaries seem to represent an abstract noun - Jirachi to wishes, Shaymin to gratitude, Celebi to time and it goes on. I actually remembered arguing with my friends because we all claimed to love Jirachi the best, and I spent hours looking for methods on how to catch him in Emerald without an event. I don't like Jirachi as much as I used to, but he still stands in a reasonable spot in my list.

Lugia and Rayquaza I like for the same reasons. I liked the role they played on their respective story, with Lugia being a sea guardian which is cool and Rayquaza being the leader of the Weather trio.

Other favorites are: Regice, Mewtwo, Suicune, Dialga, Registeel and Cobalion.

This actually such a difficult decision. There are so many amazing Pokemon out there :[ I guess I'll go with Kyogre, but Jirachi and Azelf are close, close seconds, along with Lati@s and Virizion. And more that I'm probably forgetting hahaha u__u

I have too many favorite pokemon so I just categorize them to death. With legendaries I categorize my favorites by generation:

1: Mewtwo
2: Lugia and Entei
3: Latios, Groudon, and Deoxys
4: Arceus and Dialga
5: Genesect, Reshiram, Kyurem, and Keldeo
6: Yveltal

My favourite is definitely Moltres! :D

Articuno used to be my favourite legendary bird but Moltres soon took that spot (kinda like Raikou overtaking my love for Suicune haha) when I saw it using Sky Attack in Pokémon Stadium, which is now my favourite move :) It also learns Solar Beam which is another of my favourite moves, which means it + Sunny Day = Bye bye Water types lol :) It's a combination of two of my favourite types, and it was my legendary bird in X (cause I picked Froakie) and when I saw its sprite for the first time I couldn't believe my eyes, it looked so good :) I still have it safe and sound on my current X play-through :)

Others I like are Raikou, Uxie, Rayquaza and Xerneas :)
