Favourite Pokemon Game of all Time

Crystal. I also love the Johto region and Suicune is just amazing. Also the sprites moved :)

I'd say my favorite would have to be Pokemon Heart Gold & Pokemon Soul Silver Versions because the of the game's 3d rendered buildings, water, grass, insides of buildings, paths, ground, caves, tress and sprites, the pictures of the important places before it is showed and you are in it,the music and the cool legendaries and their events, the coolest female trainer named Kotone and the pokethlon because of that People call it the greatest pokemon game ever.

Graphic-wise: Platinum, HGSS.
Plot-wise: PMD Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky

Overall Best: ... I'm still thinking, actually.

Ruby. Ruby. Ruby. Ruby. Ruby.

THE best Pokémon game ever. Most people get nostalgia fro G/S/C, my brother included. As for myself, Ruby is what I think of when you say 'Pokémon' to me, if not sprites. Seriously, why does everyone hate Hoenn? Having played Fr/Lg/Yellow and Gold (although not for that long, about a week?), I can't see why hardly anyone likes the game. I've played Ruby so many times over that a) it's the only cartridge in which I raised a Pokémon to level 100 on my own (at the age of 8), and b) the internal battery has run dry. XD It's a great game.

And if not Ruby, FR is nice. I just play through it when I'm bored.

Nostalgia-wise, Ruby comes first and Yellow come second. Yellow was the first 'Mon game I'd played before, but I was really young, like 4 or 5, so i don't remember it as much as Ruby.

I'm going to start an Anti-Anti-Hoenn club. D=<

I like all of them! :D

Personally, it irritates me when someone slams someone else's favorite game. For example, 2nd gen is under a lot of criticism right now because of the remakes, and there's lots of cross-gen comparason going on. I mean, you'll get a lot more people to listen if you start your post with somthing positive (like I did ^^^) than saying "[INSERT GAME] iS teH WOrst GAme eVur LoLZ". It's not just 2nd gen, either, that's just an example.

Disclamer: No one (that I saw) was being negative in this thread. I just had to get that off my chest. *exhales*

[/mini rant]

Anyway, I'd like to discuss the good aspects of each generation because I'm sick of people discussing the negatives. T_T

1st Gen:
  • They were the originals :P Just kidding. That doesn't count.
  • The Kanto starters
    • I love these guys. Seriously, who couldn't love a fire-breathing dragon, a giant turtle with friggin water cannons on its back, and a plant dinosaur that can shoot light beams (solarbeam)?
  • Cinnabar's Pokemon Mansion
    • K, this place is seriously cool/scary. There were all kinds of pokemon to catch (growlithe/vulpix, ponyta, ditto, magmar), and I loved the Mew/Mewtwo references in the journals.
  • Cerulean Cave
    • Again, cool/scary. It had some really rare, high level pokemon, notably Chansey, Magneton, and Kadabra. The basement floor had an extremely confusing maze to go through (though not all that complicated once you figured it out) and an awesome reward at the end: Mewtwo.
2nd Gen
  • Great starters
  • Two reigons
  • Time introduction
    • I almost **** my pants the first time the game changed to nightime. And for awhile, this was the only generation that had a morning/day/night cycle.
  • Pokegear
    • I LOVED the pokegear. Being able to call for rematches, people calling you to give you rare items, and swarms were so cool. I also enjoyed getting points for the Buena's Password thingy (Crystal)
  • Mt. Silver and Red
    • Mt. Silver was the coolest place since Cerulean Cave. And Red was very challenging.
  • Raikou, Entei, and Suicune
    • I love the concept of legendary pokemon roaming the wild. And Suicune = epic water pokemon (tied with vaporeon and kyogre in my book)
3rd Gen:
  • Underwater routes
    • OMG this was cool! I loved hunting for shards/heart scales underwater, exploring Team Magma/Aqua's base, and unlocking the Regi's by solving the braille puzzle in the underwater cave.
  • Weather in the overworld
  • Storyline
    • I loved how Ruby and Sapphire were mirrored stories. It was even better when Emerald combined the two.
  • Regirock, Regice, and Registeel puzzles
4th Gen
  • Touch Screen
    • Very nice use of the touch screen, particularly in HGSS.
  • Wifi Events
    • Finally, everyone (with wireless connection to the internet) can now recieve events without having to buy a plane ticket to god-knows-where to participate.
  • Battle Fronteir
    • I've never had so much fun battling, nor learned so much about it. I've gotten significantly better in the last year just trying to beat Palmer. I went from barely making it to battle 21 to a current streak of 84 (BT singles).
  • Distortion World
    • The Distortion world was really neat. I hope they find an excuse to do something like that in the future.
Sorry for the length, but I think there's something there for everybody who likes these games. And there's not one negative comment in there.

Since I am an endangered species of the infamous 4th generation lovers, I'll have to say Pokemon Platinum. Diamond and Pearl have enough neat features to keep me toying with them for days, but Platinum just blew everyone's mind. The first pokemon game with REAL 3 dimensions was a huge step forward for future pokemon games. I'm not even mentioning the battle frontier(although it is inferior in many ways to the Emerald frontier, it is still awesome) and the countless minigames to keep you occupied in the Wi-Fi plaza.

There is also the fact that it is a pretty diverse place, complete with a snowy city, an island you can visit in your dreams, a pretty cool story for the formation of the region, and all of the neat new pokemon such as Toxicroak, Electivire, Cherrim, and Yanmega.

i personally could not agree more with Gengarnightmare he said it perfectly each generation has there positives and there all great games that can give you hours of entertainment cause there is always something to do. For Example right now me and my mate Daniel are in a race to see who can catch em all and after that he is going to focus on Ev training and i am going to shinny hunt.
Then after that im going to Ev train and he is going to shinny hunt then after that we are each going to challenge the sinnoh frontier and who ever can beat them first wins then after that we will figure out something else can do. Most probably go back and ev train a different Team and battle each other
