Features/Minigames in Pokémon

...Now that I think about it though, there is HG/SS' Pokeathlon. Shame that it was the last of its kind to; I would've really loved to see something like this in future generations. :\
Same. That was the first one that I thought of for an answer. It was just so different, and gave the Pokemon something to do that wasn't just battling. They could show off their skills in other ways.

I too wish that something like that would make a return.

I enjoyed contests best, but I grew up on gen iii. Does the Battle Frontier count? Pokeathlon was very cool as well, but the different effects moves had really made it feel like Pokemon moves were for more than just battling.

I'd really loved the Pokeathlon and Contests a lot, I got really into those when i wasn't battling.

I'd remember playing in the Pokeathlon the category of Speed I think and always loving the Hurdles & this lightbulb gathering trampoline mini games, really fun stuff :)

But for contests oh boy, I'd went through a contest phase for a lil bit.
Let's just say my Shaymin has all the Master Ribbons in each category. (shaymin is too op help lmao)

I really enjoy Pokémon-Amie in X and Y. Spent a lot of time in there to get myself a cutie Sylveon <3.

Besides that... idk actually. I don't think I've spent much time playing many other ones.

Gen III contests were super fun and a great minigame to play post-game or as you were going along. Along with that Pokemon Amie was really good too, it was really cool to just play with our Pokemon and interact with them in a way we've never done before.

Can we also appreciate Voltorb Flip ;)

I feel like some features that are under-appreciated are the world altering moves that aid you physically, such as Flash, Strength, and Rock Smash. I feel like HMS are disliked simply because they are needed, or because the HM takes up an otherwise useful move/party slot. However, I like how your party and the moves you choose can literally change the world.
The perfect example here is Cut's feature of cutting not only trees, but Tall Grass as well. If only I could set the right shoulder button to use cut outside of battle..

OMG YES CONTESTS! Glad to see someone else enjoyed them as much as I did, I know at one point I stopped the story altogether just to spam Pokéblocks and grind out Contests.

Did you have any difficulties with a particular category before using Shay for them all? What is your favourite Category :3?

I had a tough time with the tough category, even using my op max out shaymin lol, because I tend to collect a lot of Special Attackers so Beauty & Cool (& clever was kinda covered)
My favorite category is the beauty category <3 How about you?

If we're talking contests, my Gengar is the prettiest & smartest 'Mon at the ball :p It could probably take on Cute, Tough, and Cool too. I'll try and let you all know how I do :P

I see all this praise for Voltorb Flip (and I really enjoyed it also), but let me play Devil's advocate here and ask...
What about your views on the original Game Corner with the slots? Just out of curiosity :p

The Pokeathlon was really fun! I spent hours playing it but I eventually stopped when there was this one minigame I couldn't get a highscore on, but I don't really remember what it was. I think it was the one where your Pokemon ran around and collected flags for you?

I've never really liked Voltorb Flip or the Game Corner. They just never really appealed to me, I'm not sure why.

My two cents on Voltord Flip are that, while you could buy coins in the Game Corner using pokedollars, you couldn't buy coins in HGSS, at least to my recollection; you could only get them via the Voltorb Flip. I like the game, but dislike how the game makes you play it :P I'd rather use my Pokedollars to buy the amount of coins I need.
