What's your stance on filler arcs? Or even just single episodes? Anime especially seems to abuse filler way more than any other medium I keep up with. Usually it's to let the manga get more of a buffer on the anime so there's actually something to adapt but I've seen plenty of filler episodes in original series or even in manga sometimes in between main arcs.

Personally, I adore some types of filler and don't even bother with the other types. I love when the filler doesn't take itself seriously. Like the episode of Dragonball Z where Goku and Piccolo learn to drive? I loved that so much. Same with the Yami-Yugi-goes-on-a-date episode of Yu-Gi-Oh! Silly things like that are definitely okay in my book. And sometimes I don't mind filler arcs, either. If I love the series, sometimes I don't mind thaaat much that the anime gets original arcs, as unimaginative as they can be at times, since it's just something else for me to watch: something brand new, which can be nice if I've already read the whole manga. (But then I know other people hate fillers for this very reason--for making an adaptation less faithful.)

The worst are reminiscing clip shows though. Those can all die in a fire. :(

    Completely agree with you there.

As for the rest I usually don't mind fillers much, but if it occurs way to often, I get bored quickly.

One or two episodes here and there I can put up with, but sometimes it gets to be too much. S1 of CCS has too much, for instance. S2 and S3 are much better in this respect.

One Piece's filler are so freakin' cool. They explore things that Oda didn't want to/couldn't because of editing or time or keeping things dragging or he just didn't feel like it. But I guess someone at Toei realized DBZ's filler to canon distribution was way off, they should make One Piece's a little more fair. As of now, the show is basically at a 1:1 episode to chapter ratio, which is awesome. Fight scenes? Increase awesomeness several times over. Dialogue heavy chapter? Detail and actions to go along with what the characters are saying? Outright filler arc? Get character designs and scrapped story plans from Oda himself and work things out from there. Really makes watching One Piece worth watching even if you're already reading it.

    Let's see, it's a mixed bag.

First of all i'll comment on some filler that i've enjoyed.

Naruto - Before Shippuden I just couldn't get into the main storyline at all, too much crying and moaning for it to be entertaining so the fillers were an escape. The filler arcs and films for this show are all very similar but a few really stood out for me, if you've seen the show the "Mysterious Peacock Method" and the "Land of the Sea" arcs were a lot of fun.

Bleach - The episodic and the Bounts filler were/are torturous but the Rebellion arc was pretty enjoyable for me, not really sure why but it was.

And then on to some stuff i've hated about filler.

    Filler endings >:(

Titles that ended before the manga, titles like Gantz and Elfen Lied (lesser extent) could have been so much better if only they'd waited.

Beach/hotspring service filler. Well these are not always filler down to the definition but in my eyes if nothing of importance happens they are just pointless add ons.

I'd also agree with the clip shows can die in a fire point, well apart from the Clannad After Story one.

I don't mind filler arcs, but I watch them if I think they're interesting. If they overdo it, I lose interest.

I like shows that are pretty much nothing but filler to begin with, like Inuyasha, or pokemon... mainly because I like to rewatch random episodes of shows that I've already seen, and if it's all filler, that's really easy to do, because I don't remember anything. However, if the show has a plot, and isn't all filler, then I want to see that plot, and nothing but that plot.

Then again, I haven't watched an anime longer than 24 episodes in a loooong time (other than pokemon). Mainly because I got sick of the filler in Bleach, after like 230 episodes, and just have no interest in long anime since then.

I'm usually not into fillers... Unless they have interesting storylines or add to the character's depth, I don't mind.

Like in the second season of D.Gray-man, there are a lot of filler episodes, but some are really good and or funny, so I love those.
There are also those "filler" episodes that are based on the novels, so they aren't really "fillers".

Some stories just need to move on with the plot... and no fillers. Some fillers can just die. :<

The only fillers I can stand are One Piece, which reek of Oda.

I believe fillers should exist to make sure that the mangaka, and the anime artists can catch up.

    However...Bleach...Dear God.

Well, I personally can't stand them. I know they serve a purpose, but they just get annoying to the point where I don't pay attention to them.

The worst anime for this, is Naruto. I stopped watching it due to the stupid fillers. I might look back at it when the interesting stuff has finally been animated.

I personally don't like filler. Maybe one or two episodes, but a whole arc is rediculous. I prefer stick-to-the-plot anime/manga.

Even Death Note has some filler, and that was only 37 episodes! There's quite a lot of padding in the later episodes, and there's one filler episode during the Yotsuba arc where it's all Matsuda. Still that episode did have Aiber so I'm not complaining ;)

Some of those filler episodes pointed out in the main post were my favorites, as well. xD I don't mind fillers of that type, but with some series, the fillers just tend to be boring, plot-less episodes that just aren't all that appealing. Fillers are the reason why I don't really follow Naruto, or Bleach, or One Piece.. Though, those series would be hella long without fillers too, but they don't help matters any. If a series has too many filler episodes, I tend to just not watch it much at all.

I don't mind two or three filler episodes, really. More will just derail any interest I have for the said anime. I only like One Piece's fillers, anyway.

It depends actually. I enjoy some fillers especially some of the ones in Bleach, but others I can hardly stand. And also, it irks me when they're long, more than 5 or 6 episodes, even if they're good ones, I rather it stick to the actual story :I

Depends... If the filler exists to get you closer to feel closer to the characters, then it's great. If it doesn't, it's horrible. (Basically, the difference than say... Cowboy Bebop and Bleach.)
