Okay. I just cashed out a grand to buy a decent laptop. First of all is that a decent amount of money or should I pull out more? I don't want the very best, I'd just like a decent one that gets the job. I'm just looking to play poker on it, basically. I'll be putting pokertracker,PAHUD, and whatever people tell me to put on it I guess.

So, what laptops have been failures, which ones are good?
The folowing are links to some of the comps i was considering. If you would like to help plz take a look and post which you think is the best for its price. or can you give some other good links.

    Sony VAIO VGN-NR285E/S
    HP Pavilion dv6745us
    Dell Latitude D830

I personally use a MacBook pro, but when I do have to use a windows computer I alwas pull out my old HP laptop. its stood yp to over three years of rugged travel to here and there and still works great. HP's tech service, the one time I needed to call, were very helpful and friendly. my choice of the three would be the HP. I've had outstanding success with them in the past and if I were to go back to Windows I'd certainly go to HP.

I have an HP Pavilion laptop; it's good at getting the job done.
With some games though, I do experience it slowing down if it goes over 50ffs, but the graphics are pretty and it's a well tuned computer.
Great customer service and overall service as well. If something is wrong, HP does it's best to let you know and fix it.

    Only if you can find me one too! ;~;

Almost everyone I know has a laptop.

Anyway, on topic, I wouldnt mind getting one of the Dell XPS ones. Those look so cool. I'm just dying to get rid of my current piece of crap of a computer. D:

Whatever you do, don't get a compaq. I had a comapq laptop and it sucked. o_o Gateway ones are like...angels though. <3

I'd say get a Dell one online, pricewise theyre better than what you can get around the shops and can be customised to your specs.

Ok well, heres what I've seen.

Dell - I personally have a Dell 6400, and it gets the job done. Not pretty. Not fancy. Few bells and whistles. But good. I've have one friend, who uses hers QUITE HARD, and she had to warranty it three times in one year. Not fault with the computer, but she used it hard.

HP - Little experience with them, but are gaining in market share all over the world. In my area, NE-PA, there not really here. I have been hearing some odds and ends about issues with certain models and there support, but thats common.

Compaq - Not allot of faith in them, low end of HP.

Gateway/E-Machines/MPC - Avoid like the plague. They cannot handle any kind of abuse and use. I've worked with them allot, there worthless.

Acer - Been hearing good things about his company as of late building quality machines. Cannot testify for them personally.

Toshiba - Been hearing good things about his company as of late building quality machines. Cannot testify for them personally.

Lenovo - Would have said the same thing as Acer/Toshiba, but I saw a ton come in from the factory broke where I worked, so I'm not so sure on them anymore. Good looking machines though, black is SEXY.

Overall - 2 really last pieces of info.
    1. Buy online direct from the company. You'll spend more, you'll get more.
    2. RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH - Google is your best friend. If people say it don't work, find out why. It really might not work well. Could be bull-funky. Find out before you buy.
    3. Warranty - Plan ahead. 1 year warranties do not cut it. Accidental protection might save your ass later. You can end up spending more on warranties then on the computer, but they can save you much in the long run.

Good Luck and may be force be with you.
