Time to travel back in time to childhood and see what computers we've built our lives around over the years....

I first used a computer at age five or six, when the school I attended at the time had a lab full of iMacs, which were like towers with monochromatic screens built into them, apparently bought in the 1980s. They disappeared when the school switched to Windows 95, and I never touched a Macintosh again until age fifteen, when a friend of my mother's let me onto his iBook. I next used a Macintosh computer at my school when our Web design and graphics course required us to test programmes out on those computers, but that's the only time I ever used them.

My first experience with Windows was back at that age, when my mother owned a run-of-the-mill Dell with MS-DOS and Windows 3.1 installed, so I had a bit of experience with command prompts back then. Today I usually use a Windows-run PC.

And I have used a laptop that ran on Red Hat Linux, but I have to find out where that went. I liked it due to the amount of games it had on it and that it had Firefox installed.

And you? What was the first computer that you used or had?

    When I was a very small girl, my cousin would sometimes allow me to use his computer. I personally found amusement only in the games and ROMs he had downloaded. ^_^;

Disregarding the school computers, I received my first Dell computer around age eleven. I still have it today, 'though I'm afraid it's terribly laggy and corrupted. We still have my cousin's old, obsolete Windows 95 (recently formatted to 98). =]

For owning...the very first computer I had would be the 286 computer (I don't recall the brand or anything) I received from my dad after he got his new computer back then (just a 486 at the time). At least, even if it wasn't officially my computer, I thought of it as "mine". Ah yes, the computer that had trouble running even Windows 3.1, as it was slow with it; that was around 1994 or '95. At least it had a word processing program on it (on which I wrote stories that I'm glad are gone, they were that horrible), and I had various games installed that I could mess around with. That computer's been dead for the longest time now.

I honestly couldn't say what computer was the first type I've ever used. It was either the same as the one mentioned above, or perhaps one of the ancient Apple computers my elementary school had...I can't remember.

The first one I used is actually the first one I owned as well. A Swan Computers XT10. I don't know what the storage was, but it had 2 MB of RAM and ran MS-DOS on it. Those were the days. Since then, I've went from MS-DOS to Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows XP, and even some experience with Linux thanks to Kubuntu.

First computer I ever used... A 386 (20 MHz) laptop, with 60M hard drive, 2M RAM, a (unknown resoultion - 640x480 perhaps) monochrome screen, running DOS 5, and Win 3.1. Very solid - never crashed.

Next was a 486 (66 MHz) desktop, with 500M hard drive, 16M RAM, a monitor capable of 1024x768 at most, running DOS 6 and Win 3.1 originally - later upgraded to Win 95.

Following that were a couple boxes around 300-400 MHz, running either Windows (98) or Linux depending on what point in their lives you look at, one of which is still around acting as a miniature server (416 MHz (overclocked) Pentium II, 2x 20G hard drives, 320M RAM, no monitor - headless server running Debian). Currently use several computers, including two old Dell laptops, one Compaq tablet, a Dell desktop, a Powerbook, and a couple handhelds (Palms/a Zaurus). All (except the Palms and Powerbook) running Linux. The two Dell laptops with Kubuntu on them, the other two with Gentoo on them. Zaurus running a custom ROM. Powerbook running OSX, Palms running (duh) Palm OS (5.1 & 5.4). Everything except the Powerbook, the Zaurus, and one of the Palms (a nice shiney new T|X) was second (or third/fourth/etc.) hand. Nothing running Windows, and nothing ever will if I have my way.

Yes... I do remember almost every computer I've ever used more than once.

    ^^

I got my first PC when I was 4 years old. It was a Pentium 1.3 or something, with Win 95, it was like the fastest computer back then and the first game I played on it was Aladin and Lion King ( ^^ ). It had Netscape Navigator in it. Well thats all I remember, XD.

    Mine was like one of the first laptops ever built. The screen was black and orange, it was huge, and I couldn't use the internet. The best version of Windows I could put on it was Windows 3.0... ;;

The first computer I ever used was a Commodor 64. Hours upon hours of playing Super Mario Bros. and Ninja.

    Ahh... the good ol' days.

The first ever computer we got was a Commodore 64 when I was just a baby. I remember I spent many a day when I was younger playing games on floppy disks. I really need to get an emulator and some games to relive those glory days from long ago.

    I feel old now. :(

Ah, my old 486. Good memories. I remember when I was 7 I was SO excited. And being a HUGE Pokémon fan with no internet access on the 486 I started messing around with Paint making some characters for my desktop. Guess what, they sucked. :p But I remember playing various games including Jezz Ball, Chip's Challenge and Lion King. With no sound. :p Ah Win 3.1, whatever happened to you? :p

Then I got a newer one which was my brother's first computer I think. Had Win 95. It DID have internet too. I remember playing roms on it and looking at sites including DBZ. :p

Then I got an AMD Athlon K-6 with a GeForce 1 I think. Boy that was fun. 381 MHz was kinda fast for me. Compared to like the 100 I had. :p

Then I got this AMD Athlon XP with GeForce 4. This is a great one. :p

Also, these are all basically hand-me-downs.

    EDIT:

I REMEMBER THOSE! It's in my brother's shed I think. Huge bulky thing. We'd play Nibbles ("Snake" as it's otherwise called) and Gorilla. :p

The first computer I owned was a Mac. Speakers were built into it, cd drive was in it, it was really good.

First one I used was probably when I was about two. XD So I have no idea what kind I first used.

First computer I ever used was an old computer with MS-DOS, at the age of five. There was also a Windows 3.11 computer. Soon the school switched to Windows 95, so no MS-DOS anymore.

First computer I ever owned was a Compaq Presario with Windows 98, bought seven years ago. Recently I gave that computer to my cousin, so that he can learn to use a computer until my uncle has enough money to buy him one.

Mine was some Windows 95. Sheesh, I feel like a stupid youngster. At least I was born in the original Gameboy Generation and I can stand those crummy graphics. xD

Uh... Depends on what video card you have there. Although video cards weren't too great back then.

I got my computer in like 2003 or 2002 or something and my first one ever was a Dell Labtop. It was a Windows XP one too, I am actually still using it right now. I am typing on it actually XD

I also have another labtop and it's supposively the biggest one they've made, well, the screen is the biggest they have for a labtop anyway, but I don't like it since everything looks so small on it. I need to read the instructions and learn how to fix it, but I'm too lazy to do that XP Also, it has wireless internet which causes the connection to be slow and I don't have an internet chord for it yet =x

hmmm.... the first computer we owned if my lifetime was one that we got back in 1997. Back then I just played some kiddie games on it. It was my grandpa's computer, and my mom was on it ALL the time... back then I was too busy playing outside to want to be on much...

We got our compy in 2000, and thats about the time that I first started getting into computers... thats the same computer I'm on right now...
Although its pretty horrible now, it crashes alot, and it has very little memory...

Luckily, we're getting a new one soon. x3

Ever since I first laid eyes on my first computer and actually interacted with one, all the computers used have been Windows of some sort. The first time I actually used a computer was like..back in kindygarden...Everytime I clicked something, I would have to be supervised my dad for a while, but not until just a few months later that I would be able to break into the computer and be able to use the internet..mwuhaha. That computer was...I think it was a Windows 95 or 93..I can't remember, but it was okay. I continued using the EXACT same computer up until forth or fifth grade, and then it was considered extremly old and my dad got a few new ones....that were extremly cheap. The only thing you can do in those computers with only 1 GB memory is play the arcade games on there (though..they were kinda fun I gotta admit..) ANd then later on he got me an okay computer around seventh grade since I started working on more essays and such. Yep...Now I have a new computer 'cause the one I got in the seventh grade was FULL of viruses and bugs. Now I'm currently using a Windows XP ^^

When I was aged 6 my dad brought a Time windows 98, it was a nightmare, it was so slow and was a dial-up, I'm quite glad we got rid of it XD Then my dad brought a dell windows XP desktop, And on my birthday which was in april I got a laptop for my birthday.

My first computer is totally old. I used a XT when I was like 4, but I only played games on it. Like later, my parents bought me my first Mac, which is like obsolete, but I totally use it once in a while. Then my parents bought a computer with Windows 95 and another Mac like uses PowerPC. I love macs, and I hardly use the PC. I totally switch to PC when my school started to use Windows. I still use Windows, but I wished that I stayed with a Mac. I like have more problems now with my current PC with spyware, viruses, security holes, and etc then I was using a Mac. =(
