You can try this one. This is what I use whenever I need to convert. Mediaconverter.org also works well too.

Using "mencoder," (related to mplayer):

$INPUT.flv -ovc lavc -oac mp3lame -o $OUTPUT.avi
Where $INPUT is the input file and $OUTPUT is the output file.

These are command line tools for Windows. To use them, put them in your root directory ("C:\") along with the flv, open a command prompt (Windows key + R, cmd at the prompt), navigate to the directory (CD C:\), and use the command.
 
Or just install a codec pack that allows you to play FLV files in any Media Player.

Uninstalling Internet Explorer will not affect Firefox at all.
 
You can't uninstall Internet Explorer unless you remove it directly from the installation disc using nLite or something.

Wrong. It's fairly easy to uninstall. I can even do it in the Add/Remove Programs options, but why would I want to, when I have this nifty program called Revo Uninstaller that gets rid of virtually everything that IE has on the computer, instead of just what it removes by default?
 
Just remember that if you're still using XP that you still need IE or you can't access Microsoft Update. (if you're on vista or later then I can't see a reason not to uninstall it.)
 
Pazera FLV to AVI converter. Just Google it and you'll find it. It's small and reliable, and you also have the option of converting your videos into MPG format.

The base install of IE doesn't show up in Add/Remove programs on any Windows installation I've ever seen (you can uninstall IE7 on a system that came with IE6 or any similar situation, however). Also, removing IE post-installation can mess with dependencies; other Windows components assume it's installed, and when they find that it isn't, they error. Stripping it with nLite from the install disc is a better option, as the dependencies aren't formed in the first place, and it also prevents a lot of unnecessary information from being put into the registry.

AFAIK, IE tab requires IE to be on the system in order to work, hence the reason there is not a release for other OSes. I'm not completely sure about that, though; correct me if I'm wrong.

EDIT: Looks like I am correct. IEtab uses the Trident rendering engine in FF, which requires Internet Explorer to be installed. There are other ways to get your updates, however.

You can use iMovie FLV Converter. You can google it and find it easily. It can also help you convert FLV to MP4, FLV to AVI, FLV to WMV, FLV to MPEG.
