So, I got a foreign Magmar with perfect IVs and Nature, but I hate that its name is in Chinese. Anyone know if there's any possible way that I can change the name to English? I don't plan on evolving it.

You have to evolve it if you want its English name. Otherwise, your stuck with Magmar with a foreign name due to not being the OT.

Aw shoot. I'd hoped by X&Y they'd have some kind of method. Anyway, thanks guys.

Its because of a personalized setting. If it were a nickname they wouldn't want you changing it and it wouldn't change when it evolved. They see it as a personal setting of the owner.

As far as I know there is no Chinese language settings in X/Y.

Back on topic, if the Pokemon is not nicknamed, if you send it to an English cartridge with Magmarizer then it should have the English name. If you don't want to evolve it, then unfortunately there's no way to change its name.

OR you can always use it as a parent for breeding perfect IV offspring :)

If name really bothers you that much then yeah I think you can do that

I don' believe that it is possible to change pokemon names when trade. It wasn't possible in the previous games. Personally, I like some of the Japanese names such as yayakoma for for Flethcling in the anime.
