If you could take any game mechanic from a future generation and introduce it on RSE/FRLG instead of whichever version it was released on, which feature would you pick? Don't think about hardware issues or anything when answering, pretend anything goes! For example, I would love to have seasons introduced in Gen 3 since I loved them in Unova, and I would also introduce day/night in RSE. Your turn!

I just want to see the player character ride a Lapras when Lapras surfing because other Pokemon under my butt don't look as good. And Lapras neck spooning is kind of neat looking?

I'd take the VS Seeker from DPPt. I love the idea of being able to battle anytime and anywhere with any of the previous trainers that you've beaten for loads of extra experience and grinding, especially those with high-levelled Pokemon. I'd also love to bring in the rustling grass feature of B/W2 for a chance of getting rare or the evolved forms of basic Pokemon in the wild, which is handy for completing the Pokedex without the use of trading or the time-consuming manual evolution process.

The physical/special split. After playing Generations IV and V, I feel that without that it makes playing through Generation III less enjoyable after getting used to that. So yeah, that is definitely something that would have been great here, even if it hadn't really been thought of then.

I would love to bring character customization into them. Although May and Brendan are core characters of the series (and therefore can't be changed much appearance-wise), it would have been nice if we were still able to change their clothes ever once in a while, and perhaps even hats and other accessories. It would give each of our player something unique, and make them different from everyone else's.

Aside from above, one other thing I would consider is perhaps walking-Pokémon. It might not be very important, but I personally find this feature to be super-adorable (and so do many others, I'm sure), and seeing it in the games definitely would have given us more of a pleasurable experience.

Of course, there might be those who don't like walking-Pokémon feature, and for them, perhaps they could have implemented a toggle option; when you turn it off, your Pokémon would go back into its Ball immediately.

Agreed. As a big fan of third gen, the split would have been an amazing thing to have. To think that in ORAS I'll finally be able to use things like Blaziken and Gyarados in game to their full potential is great, although Hidden Abilities could be good too (Mmm, gimme that Speed Boost).

Need I say more? The Pokeradar. This would have been very useful for RSE instead of having to go for the usual 1/8192 chance for a shiny.

Easily day/night system! I never understood why they didn't keep that in Gen III after introducing it in Gen II. It was quite a step down imo, since it made the Johto games feel richer. Also days of the week.

Seasons might not have been relevant to put in the Hoenn games, since it's got a tropical climate anyways :3 Summer all the time? And we already had lots of rain.

The other thing I'd have loved for Gen III was character customization, like Ashley suggests. Perhaps some key features could stay so that May would always look like May and Brendan like Brendan, such as Brendan would always need a hat that wasn't a cap and May always a bandana-like thing.
