From what I've heard, Vic's young Ed doesn't sound too promising. I think the reason Romi Paku does such an amazing job is because she's played different roles and has experience with them. She's done the role of a kid and teen (Ichijouji Ken/Dejimon Kaziaa from Digimon is a perfect example).
Al, on the other hand, sounds absolutely perfect as a human child. o_o;
