So today at 9 pm central time, Funimation's One Piece was shown to the pubic via Cartoon Network. The long awaited (for mostly some) has finally happen and One Piece is now out of the hands of 4Kids Entertainment.

So this is for the people who cared and saw One Piece tonight. Did anybody saw it? What you guys thought? Better then 4Kids's? Did anybody like it?

It's been on Toonami for some time now Char. Like, 8 months. Or more. And I love your new theme. Sanji's gonna fall head over heels for it.

One Piece has been on Toonami for a long while now. It just that starting with this/pass Saturday started the Funimation dubbing of One Piece. All One Piece episodes before today/yesterday have been dubbed by 4Kids (which I was ok with). That is the point of this thread to see what people think of it.

haha Yeah. This is my fifth(?) out of seven themes featuring the Straw Hat Crew.

I personally did not like the new voices. I know that they seem to be closer to the Japanese voices, but I became used to the voices. I don't know, I suppose I will have to wait and see how it plays out...

I haven't been able to watch the new episode due to living in Australia, but from what I've heard from other fans, it's actually quite a good dub. People were (mostly) pleased with the new VA's, and the english versions of the openings were much appreciated.

*high fives for awesome One Piece theme*

I don't really like them too much either. They are ok but I feel that Usopp and Zolo sounded like two characters from DBZ and to tell you the truth my mind reconize Piccolo's voice as Piccolo and not Zolo. Still now I know how the Pokemon SOVA people feel like. haha Still I guess they were ok voice. I just going have to get use to them.

Also did anybody notice that FUnimation tried too hard on making the opening theme sound too much like the original opening them that it sounded bad? I would have perfer to keep the original or just make a new opening theme. Ending was ok but I found it hard to understand the opening.

I did like that One Piece had more time and that it was still kind of funny. I just wish that we can get a good episode to talk about. This episode was just meh. I think the original was meh too so I guess I will have to wait until we get to see Hyalina VS Luffy for a good episode. haha

Yeah. Next is Luffy and then the Merry Go.

I thought the new dub was so excellent! My favorite voices were Robin's and Usopp's. They were great! Luffy's, Sanji's, Chopper's, Zolo's(Zoro), and Nami were great as well. But Usopp's and Robin's were number 1 to me. <3

And the opening and ending were great! They translated them, awesome job.

One Piece is watchable! I won't miss a episode now. Now I got something to watch other than Naruto and Bleach. ^^

And I like your theme charizard_maa! Nami is cool.

Eh...most of the voices were pretty good, actually. I emphasize "most" however, because the voices of Zolo & Sanji seemed kind of strange. Granted, it was probably due to me being used to the other voices, but...I think it would have worked out better if the voices of those two were switched around.

I also noticed the Piccolo thing.

Thank God David Moo no longer voices Sanji. :>

I was a bit put off by Zoro having the same voice as Vegeta/Piccolo/Alex Louis Armstrong, but by the end of the episode I was okay with it.

Well, Nami.. Nami is voiced by Luci Christian, someone I can't say I respect completely since she annihilated Risa Harada (one of my favorite female characters in anime/manga). But for the most part, she was MUCH more emotive than whoever originally did her voice. Robin no longer speaks with the accent from hell, as far as I'm concerned, and Usopp is better :3

All I can say is, too bad Vivi wasn't able to get a different voice.. I really love her character >.>

To be completely honest, I thought it was well done. Mind you, I'm not going to actually judge the voices for another nine or so episodes, as the voice actors themselves have to adjust to the characters. Only once they familiarize themselves with the characters' personalities through acting them out can they form a separate voice from their previous works without sounding strained.

Now, in my opinion, I'd say that Nami's sounded, well, the most natural.

Luffy's sounded a bit strained, and no matter how much I heard Zolo, it sounded so much like Vegeta to me based on pure instinct. Usopp still had that squeakish, strained voice, and Sanji simply brought Future Trunks to mind. But, honestly, I was greatly pleased overall. The opening was subpar, but it's the most I expected from an English translation.

Also, everyone mark your calendars. Next week, we get to hear Travis Willingham (Roy Mustang, the Flame Alchemist) take on the ironic role of Portgaz D. Trace, aka "Trace Heatfist".

Glad somebody agree with me like that. After listening to Piccollo for so long his voice just stay there with his image. Going to take some getting use to.

Yeah. I agree with you there. There is going have to be some time before I get use to these guys and letting them get use to the voices.

I kind of didn't like the opening ending. It seems like they really tried too hard to make it sound like the japanese opening but to tell the truth I don't think it was meant to be sung like that in english. I would have just suggest a new opening for now. If they are going to be doing this for all the openings then I do pray and wish them luck in doing this for the Water 7 arc opening them. I like the song but that may not be said for the dub one. I did like the ending theme and found it great.

haha That is so funny. Kind of ironic isn't it? The guy played the role of a guy who uses fire and he is still playing the same kind of character. Still I hope I don't feel the same way as I did with Piccollo thing.

And I like your theme charizard_maa! Nami is cool.

Just wait until I get Luffy up.

Good thing I have this episode on recording so I am going to watch it again and just get some more into it before I say some good things. haha It was still a good episode all and all.

I was only able to catch bits and pieces of the episode in question, but from what little I heard (which was mostly Luci Christian as Nami, with one line from Eric Vale as Sanji), it was significantly less hard on the ears than the 4kids dub.

I'll give it a few weeks before I give a final verdict.

    FUNimation got Yugioh too.

I might consider watching all these random animes FUNimation is redoing =D

Eric Vale as Sanji? Hmmm.... No, I can't see that happening. *major VA freak*

Oh, cool! A Luffy theme next huh? That is awesome! Can't wait to see that.

*sigh* I am so happy right now. I can now watch One Piece in peace and I won't turn away Funimation's version. Like I did with 4Kids...

Here are my favorite lines from last Saturday's episode.

Usopp: I cast aside my worries and reach deep within to find my happy place. And when I open my eyes, the serene landscape is all that will lay before me - AAAHHH! A SKELETON DEADGUY!

Nami: Don't throw that nasty thing at me you idiot!

    Sanji: They are falling everywhere!

    Usopp: I'M SURROUNDED BY DEATH!

Nami: When will the nasty stuff will stop falling?!
    ----------------------------------------------
Luffy: There is a floating island up there?

Usopp: If there is one, then it is filled with skeletons and rickety old ships!

Zolo: That is ridiculous. I don't see anything but sky.

Robin: Hmm...that isn't exactly how it works. It isn't a island above us, but a entire ocean.

    Sanji: I am still confused.

There are other lines, but this were my best. ^^

The new dub will appease everyone once we get used to the voices.
It's not that we don't like them, we are just used to 104 episodes of different ones.
Oh, and what voices will be in Unlimited Adventure

Yeah. I guess so. I mean it just like when Pokemon USA got the episodes rolling when they got the rigths to the anime. I just going miss Sanji's old voice. His old one had more personality/different from his new one.

Still why change the graphics of the title? I guess kind of tie in with Skypidia but still going to miss Luffy being the I in Piece.

Most likely I guess Funimationi will do the voices for Unlimited Adventure since they also got control of the products too.

The new theme was.........sofreakinamazinglysweet!! so cool! ~ heh, I had to watch it like three times over again to catch all the speedy words, but still it was so sweet. If you look at the pics, the words get completely lost. >-<" but that's probably just me!

Ah, nah, I really loved it, and had been waiting for a new beginning, BUT I didn't know the voices were changing, so it was a really big surprise. One I wasn't too fond of at first... but, I guess I'll just get used to it, especially after hearing all the praise they got on this thread. ^^ That's really awesome~

^^" I DO miss Sanji's voice the most though, I always used to find it fascinating, and thought it fit the guy perfectly. but i've never seen the Jap version >< Anyways, Usopp's was a sad loss too, it's just not as hilarious anymore, even though it was annoying as hell. I still adapted and fell in love with it.

Chopper! sounded sooo adorable! <3 But he always did. The only thing that bugged me a bit was when he was in Rumble form, he still kept the baby voice, and they changed it in the 4kids dub... so it sounded a bit strange Oxymoron-ish. But still pretty adorable.

It's not the same, but it's not terrible (because the opening's too cool for that) heh.
    BUT, it'll just take a few epi's I guess~

I still love the show <3

Edit: ^ Charizard_maa~ I love your new theme, btw! Luffy ftw! <3

Yay, your Luffy theme is awesome charizard_maa! Nice color scheme. ^^

Anyway, yeah once there will be more episodes everyone will get used to the voices and it will awesome. I am still happy that now they have a decent dub cast. And they don't sound like they are overacting.

I got to tell you the truth, I did watch some of the 4Kids version. I only watched about 10-15 episodes, and then I turn away completely. It was so bad....

But not anymore, hehe...I will tune in this time. Yay! Just two more days...

Your new Luffy theme is great, charizard_maa.

Trust me, David Moo did NOT ever fit Sanji. In fact, if you were to give Joey Wheeler (4Kids YGO) a bottle of helium, then kick him in the crotch a few times, they'd sound rather similar. Sanji has to sound at least somewhat debonair, which is kind of hard to do when you can't even enunciate the letter "r".
