Wow, it's been a couple of days since my last update. Time for the next episode of BassFace's Journeys in Johto…

-Healed up at Ecruteak's Pokemon Centre
-Headed out west to Route 38
-Mom phoned, letting me know she blew some of my hard-earned cash on a stuffed Charmander (kidding… I think the Charmander doll is awesome!)
-Arrived at that Miltank farm
-Stuffed Moomoo with Berries until she was magically well again
-Bought some Moomoo Milk from the ranch owner, and received TM13 (Snore) from his wife
-Fought the trainers on Route 39
-Arrived in Olivine City
-Met up with my rival, Kamon, at the entrance to Olivine City's Gym
-Received a Good Rod from that chap in the first house
-Received HM04, Strength, from that sailor in the restaurant
-Got a call from that Anthony dude way over on the other side of Johto, demanding a battle
-Traveled to Route 33 (you know Johto's a pretty small province when you make it there in less than 2 minutes, without the use of VBA's turbo feature), and fought Anthony, his crummy Level 16 Geodude, and his Level 18… what the…? Machamp?
-After beating him, hiked back to Olivine
-Scaled the Lighthouse, beating all the trainers on the way up
-Remembered at the last minute that today was Sunday; went and got the Magnet from that Sunny dude on Route 37
-Saved the game in front of the Lighthouse

Espeon is the evolved form of a Pokemon that falls outside the list of allowed Pokemon for this challenge. All main team Pokemon used in the challenge have to be caught before Azalea Town.
As well, Gyarados itself can't be first caught until the Lake of Rage. Magikarp can only be caught by fishing and Surfing, and one of the guidelines of the challenge was that main team Pokemon could only be caught in the tall grass or the main pathways of caves (i.e. walking). The one exception to this guideline is your starter.
However, if Gyarados is only being used as an HM Slave, without being trained, it's fine to have it on the team.

-Flaaffy grew to Level 30 and evolved into Ampharos!
-Arrived in Cianwood City
-Went to the Cianwood City Gym, got halfway through before realizing I needed a Pokemon with the HM Strength to keep going (xD)
-Had to leave the Gym, went to complete Jasmine's errand instead
-Got the Secret Potion from the pharmacy
-Got a Shuckle from that dude in the house near the Pokemon Centre (great…)
-Surfed to Olivine City
-Deposited Shuckle in the PC
-Climbed the Lighthouse and gave Jasmine the Secret Potion
-Saved the game at the top of the Lighthouse

Current Team of Awesomeness:

So far, Quilava is the only Pokemon I have that's female. Every other one I've caught, including the ones in the PC, are male. Even the Shuckle that guy gave me is male, and so is the Togepi I hatched from the Mystery Egg. It would be interesting to see if I can keep it this way until I beat the whole challenge...

Here's my latest update:

~August 25th, 2009~

-Picked up the game (rather, booted it up on VBA) after nearly two weeks of inactivity
-Left the Lighthouse in search of a Pokemon I could use as a Strength HM Slave
-Took the lazy way out and taught it to 'Rocky' (you know, that Onix you trade for in Violet City)
-Headed out to Route 42 (yes, with only 4 badges), fought all the trainers there
-Arrived in Mahogany Town
-Traveled up Route 43 to the Lake of Rage, fought all the trainers on that route
-Took a detour to that maze-like area out back, and received TM10, Hidden Power, from that dude in the house
-Did an experiment to find out which type of attack each of my main Pokemon would use if they used Hidden Power:
Ampharos – Electric. Waste of a TM, since he already knows Electric-type moves.
Furret – Poison… ugh. I can't think of a single benefit Furret would get from this type. It's only super-effective against Grass, and I've already got a Fire-type on the team to tackle Grass Pokemon.
Quilava – Steel. This will allow her to hit Rock-types with super-effective damage, so this is actually not a bad type for her Hidden Power. I would've preferred Grass, but it's loads better than what Ampharos and Furret got.
-Surfed out in the Lake of Rage to face the Red Gyarados. It wasn't easy to catch, but I finally caught the darned thing in a Great Ball. That Gyarados knocked out Ampharos while I was trying to gradually lower its HP (with Tackle… xD), and knocked out Furret right after I'd gotten its HP to the minimum. I only had Quilava left, but fortunately, she was able to hang on long enough for me to catch the Gyarados.
-Met up with Lance, returned to Mahogany Town
-Ventured partway into the Rocket Hideout, fought Grunts until all my Pokemon were evenly leveled
-Left the Hideout and decided to go get the two badges I'd missed before moving on
-Returned to the Olivine City Gym, where Quilava proceeded to own Jasmine's Magnemites and Steelix
-Received the Mineral Badge and TM23, Iron Tail!
-Was about to head to Cianwood City, but got called by that pest Anthony (the Hiker on Route 33) for a battle
-Traveled all the way to Route 33, and battled Anthony, his Level 16 Geodude, and his Level 18 Machamp (I'm pretty sure they were those same levels the last time I battled him)
-Saved the game on Route 33
