Game consoles 'cause skin sores' (BBC)

A new skin disorder caused by use of games consoles has been identified by skin specialists.
The condition, dubbed PlayStation palmar hidradenitis, is described in the British Journal of Dermatology.
Researchers outline the case of a 12-year-old girl who attended a Swiss hospital with intensely painful sores on the palms of her hands.
The girl, who had been using a games console regularly, recovered fully after 10 days of abstinence.
Stop playing VG's everyone!!! *Shot* XD

Well I love videogames but sometimes we just play too much eh?

That's not her fault, nor the parents.
    It's Sony's crap-job of a controller.
I play my 360 more than that girl, and I don't have sores. It's because the Xbox 360 controller is designed to fit your hand. On Sony's side, their controller is made for playing games only. No hand comfort at all.

Welcome to yet another article that just tries to shoot holes in common sense.

Of course you're gonna get bloody sores if you grip your hands around a goddamn controller for a long period of time. >_>

Even though I have being using Playstation controllers since I was 8 and haven't ever had even a cramp, never mind a sore, or the fact that this is the only reported case, I'd like to point out that Microsoft made the most notorious gaming contraption known to man, the original Xbox controller, which gave me and many friends no end of cramps.

It was only a matter of minutes before a 360 fan had to bash Sony. ¬_¬

I like how the article does not mention the girl having a PS3 at all, either.

    Some logic you fanboys have.

It only says a "playstation" which could be any of the 3, regardless the condition could effect anyone using any controller.

    I'm not a fanboy.

I made my post due to a possibility that it may have been a PS2, or a PS3, who knows? All the information that was given is that she was most likely gripping a controller too tightly and got hand sores from it.

I never said you were a fanboy.

The only time I ever slightly injured myself was playing Mario Tennis on the N64. I blistered my thumb :C

When I do a marathon session my palms were hurt, but...that's clearly because I haven't put the controller down in 12 hours.

You were generalizing, therefore making it quite difficult to tell. :[

I think his post was more aimed at RaiRai, who was quick to attack Sony and blame them over this whilst boasting about his own preferred console.

i got a blister on my finger from my freakin mouse scroll wheel, and some palm sores from the grips on my gamecube controller, but nothing that sounds so severe, or stupid, it is the fact that the girl played games for who knows how long a day, it was bound to happen.

I got blisters on my thumb playing Luigi's Mansion.
    Damn C-stick >_>

But this article is just blatant disregard of common sense.
    Seriously.

Admit it, though; those blisters were totally worth it. ;P

You know, seeing the uncomfortable shape of the PS/2/3 control, I actually think that thing was the cause. :\

Someone's gonna sue Sony someday big time and the battlefield will only be Microsoft Entertainment and Nintendo...:o

My thumbs have gotten sores from playing video games excessively, but nothing like the girl in the article. I had to stop playing for a bit, but I was fine.

I would have to agree that the 360 controller is better than Playstation's, although I own neither.

I have never recieved skin sores due to video game playing. The worst injury I have ever recieved was losing the use of my arms (couldn't move them at all) from a 9-hour Wii Sports Boxing marathon.

And if you people think the Duke Xbox controller is bad, use the Performance third party Dreamcast controller. That thing is bigger, and meaner.

This reminds me of "Nintendoitis", the condition a person can get from playing the old NES controller a lot.

I've been playing games for nearly 20 years and I still have not gotten one blister on my hands or thumbs. Most of the time, I just have a firm, but calm grip on the controller. If I start to feel discomfort, that's a sign for me to take the rest of the day off.

Wow. This is almost ridiculous as Wiitis. Sores on your skin from excessive gameplay being diagnosed as a disease? What a world we live in.

The worst thing that has ever happened to me in all of my gaming years was a somewhat painful mark on my thumb I received by playing Star Wars: Rogue Squadron on my N64 a bit too much one day.

But I really don't see how the PlayStation controller is even uncomfortable at all. I once played MegaMan X7 on my PS2 for 8 hours straight (back then I had no idea as to what direction I was going in life) with a first-party Sony-brand controller, and the thing comfortably fit my hand like a glove.

If you think that the original Xbox Duke controller was bad though, take a look at its predecessor: the first-generation SideWinder. Back in the day, my hand would eventually cramp after playing NHL '98 for three hours, but some people have said that it felt like a taste of arthritis to use the thing for more than twenty minutes. I still have mine, and it's great for playing Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator with since my 360 controller isn't fully compatible with older PC games, but I guess your left thumb will hurt after a while since Microsoft's controller lines have had a history of stiff D-pads (and the 360 controller never got better with that issue until we made warranty-nullifying custom modifications ourselves).

And the bickering between the fanboy groups in this thread is ridiculous. I guess the console wars doesn't ever rest even for a day...

That's it? Girl probably never played any Mario Party. Once she plays that, then she can complain to people about her hands hurting.

OMG DON'T SHOW THIS TO JACK THOMPSON! Video game controllers "assault" the hands of players!

I've never got blisters from playing games, though my hands do get sore if I've been at it too long. Not quite to the point of carpal tunnel, but bad enough so I have to stop.

you forgot the PSP, that thing is pretty popular with the kids these days also how did they actually prove the sores came from the playstation?
