Game of Life Challenge

Hello, and welcome to the Game of Life Challenge. In this Challenge you will be playing through a Pokemon game as if you were in a real life scenario, progressing through life. Sort of like the board game Life.

The Challenge is Completed when you beat the Elite Four Champion.

Pokemon #1 - A Hero was Born!:

This Pokemon is you. The Pokemon must be a Tri-Evolution Pokemon that you get prior to the first gym. Therefore, it can be any of the starters, or a Pokemon such as the Pidgey Line. This is in your children years so if needed you get a Parental Assist. For this, you can use Two Other Pokemon to help assist you until you evolve into your second evolution.

Pokemon #2 - It's Career Day!

You may only use Pokemon #2 AFTER your first Pokemon has evolved. This Pokemon is your mentor for your Career Choice. You must pick a Pokemon that coordinates with the type of career that you pick. Here's a list:

Anything involving technology - Electric or Steel Type Pokemon
Medical Field - A Pokemon with a Regeneration move
Teachers - Psychic Type
Athletic Trainers - Fighting Types
Pilot/Navigator - Flying Type
Business - Dark/Normal Types must either be holding a Nugget or Amulet Coin
Police man/Fire Fighter - Water or Fire Type
Florist/Gardener/Nature Related - Bug or Grass Type

Pokemon #3 - First Comes Love, Then Comes Marriage!

You may get this Pokemon after the Second Gym has been defeated. This will be your life partner. It MUST be the opposite gender of your first Pokemon.

Pokemon #4/5 - It's a Boy Girl!

You may only use this Pokemon after beating the 4th Gym Leader. You can use this slot as one of two ways. You can choose to either just have a single Pokemon and save the final slot for an HM slave. Or get twins! The twins can either be two of the same Pokemon, or two Pokemon that are similar. I.E Growlithe and Vulpix. These Pokemon must always be a lower level than your first and third Pokemon.

Pokemon #5/6 - Man's Best Friend

After your kid(s) pestering you day after day to buy a pet, you finally decide to get them one after beating the 5th Gym. This Pokemon can be any Pokemon that could be a pet. Even a fish. It must be a normal pet, though. You can't use Dragonite and say "Well a boy owned a dragon in Eragon". This Pokemon must always be the lowest level on your team.

Rules:

-You MUST Nickname all your Pokemon.
-No Legendaries
-No Genderless Pokemon, unless it's the Career Mentor
-No hacking in Pokemon
-No HM slaves unless you aren't getting twins, then you may have 1.
-You may catch the Pokemon that you want at any time, but you can't use it until the time specified. For example, you can catch a Nidoran on Route 1 as your life partner, but you can't use it until you beat the 2nd gym.

Pokemon Fire Red Update #1:

Spoiler:

-Named my Trainer Riv and got my first Pokemon, who I decided to name my full name. River the Squirtle!
-Did the Oak Parcel Stuff
-Went through Viridian Forest
-Easily beat Brock
-While defeating some of the Pre-Mt. Moon trainers, River evolved!
-I decided I wanted to fly, so I caught myself a Pidgey named after the man who invented flying! Orville.
-Trained Orville and River through Mt. Moon and along the way Orville evolved!
-Defeated my Rival for some easy Exp, then went to Misty.
-Beat her with ease with River's mean bite.

Since no one has posted after me, ill put my first update here as well:

Update #1
- Chose Magnus the Torchic as my Starter!
- Did all the introduction things and beat my Rival and his Mudkip
- Made my way to Petalburg, talked to dad and helped out Wally
- Cleared all the routes between Petalburg and Rustboro City.
- After some grinding, Magnus evolved into a strong Combusken!
- Having learned Double-Kick, the first gym was no match for Magnus
- Helped out the Devon guy, kicked the grunts butt, saved Peeko and received the PokeGear
- Went ahead and caught BoomBox the Whismur, my career mentor!
- Travelled to Dewford Town and made my way to Steven Stone, gave him the letter.
- Cleared all the trainers in the Dewford Gym and took on Brawly, won my 2nd Badge!
- Took the boat to Slateport City, and as i was battling the trainers along the Beach, Boombox evolved into Loudred!

- stored Harry in the pc, trained Tia on the way to jubilife
- reached jubilife, visited trainer school and did poketch stuff
- was given an old rod
- trained some more on route 204, caught a budew, named her Rosa, put her in storage
- got some free exp from Zen on route 203
- on my way to Oreburgh city, Tia evolved!
- decided i wanted to become a florist, Rosa kindly volenteered to become my mentor
- trained Rosa a little before making my way to oreburgh
- fought my way through the mine, told Roark to return to the gym
- beat the gym and earnt ourselves a coal badge > Rosa easily overkilled things
- caught a Geodude,named it crusher - taught it rock smash
- used Crusher's rock smash to get through ravaged path
- reached floroma town and boxed crusher

I'm saying this as a gay guy myself, and I'm really not trying to turn it into some kind of social justice post, but considering it is the game of life, it would probably make more sense to have everyone included for whatever they choose.

Anyway, disregarding that, I'd still like to play this on Emerald!

Jak and I were actually talking about that. I figured if someone brought up that point, I'd change it. It was kind of intended to be like the game. You pick a Gender, you get a job, you get a spouse, you get kids and have the ability to get twins, you can get a pet all that good stuff. So I was trying to make it like that.

However, if you would like, I'll turn the kid part into adoption since it's not like you have to breed, and I'll make it an any gender type thing.

Yeah, I'm not offended cause lol it's Pokemon, so either way it's role playing and I can do whatever. I don't mind picking a female opposite it's not gonna frustrate me. Either way, I think it is what it is so it really doesn't make a huge difference, but still.

UPDATE #1

A Hero Is Born. But our hero is not is a starter. Instead, it is a worm who will grow into a Champion of the Kanto region. As for now, we'll focus on the worm: Weedle was caught in the Veridian Forest, but its time as a Weedle was quite brief. I the Trainer, grinded Bee into the Beedrill it was meant to be.

Two deathly boring hours of grinding were taken in order to prepare for Brock, but the action was worthwhile.

BROCK (Badge #1)
-I had to spam Poison Sting with Bee until Brock's Geodude and Onix were poisoned. Thankfully, Rock Throw only hit one time the entire battle.

As Beedrill is fully evolved, I am now eligible to use the second member of my team. The next capture will have to wait until the end of Mt. Moon, where I catch our Teacher, Abra.

Adjacent from Nugget Bridge, I caught my Abra. Before I decided to fight Misty, I grinded Abra to a Kadabra. "Genius" the Kadabra quickly found its place on my team. STAB Psybeam hits VERY hard at this stage in the game.

MISTY (Badge #2)
For her Staryu, I used Kadabra. To my surprise, it KO'd Staryu in one shot. Starmie was taken out by my Beedrill and its Twineedle. Twineedle is super effective on the Water-Psychic typed Starmie.

-Fought a few trainers, then caught the third member of my team: "Feline" the Female Meowth, my "First Comes Love" Pokemon. I fought every trainer outside Vermilion and every Trainer on the SS Anne to evolve my Meowth into Persian. Once the SS Anne was over, I took on Lt. Surge.

LT SURGE (Badge #3)
I used my newly-evolved Persian and Kadabra for Surge. The only problem was Raichu, though he went down in two attacks.

-Fought every Trainer outside and inside Rock Tunnel to reach Lavender and then Celadon. Once there, I went straight for Erika.

ERIKA (Badge #4)
Beedrill and Kadabra were key in this match, with Beedrill takng care of Tangela and then Kadabra knocking Vileplume and Victreebel out with Psybeam.

UPDATE #2

Spoiler:

With four badges, I was eligible to catch another member of my team. To snag Cubone, I had to get the Silph Scope from Celadon Game Corner. Once complete, I went to Lavender, embarrassed Gary, then caught Cubone.

Boney M is his nickname. I got a kick out of this one because this is the same title as a Pop group from the 70's Rah, Rah, Rasputin! Lover of the Russian Queen! And IT'S A BOY!

Moving on, I realize that I can complete my team. Man's Best Friend? How about a bird/duck thing, Farfetch'd? So, I went and traded a Spearow (boring!) for it. Unfortunately, our lowest-leveled Pokemon was way below the rest of my team.

Next, I made the trip to Fuchsia, and fought Koga. Oh, and Cubone evolved into Marowak!

KOGA (Badge #5)
Though I'm underleveled from here until the end of the update, Koga went down easily with Kadabra's Psychic.

With Surf, I headed straight for Cinnabar.

BLAINE (Badge #6)
Persian knows Dig and Marowak gets STAB for Bonemerang (a ghetto Earthquake lol), so I wanted to challenge Blaine next. He's really easy even though my team is underleveled.

Before I finish the second update, I went to Silph Co, took down my Rival and then Giovanni to set myself up for Sabrina and the rest of the game.

SABRINA (Badge #7)
I soloed with Persian because it knows Bite, and things went well. Kadabra beat her Venomoth.

Moving on...
GIOVANNI (Badge #8)
I'm very underleveled for Gio, which is a surprise. This is what happens when you don't use an overpowered Starter in favor of Beedrill (such a disappointment). I used Marowak here, which proved to be a good choice. Bonemerang took out his pesky Nidos and Rhyhorn/Dons.

As Giovanni almost beat me, I decided to grind at the Sevii Islands/Cycling Road for EXP. Soooo boring.

-Beat my Rival for the second to last time, thanks to Kadabra's sweeping skills.

LORELEI
Beedrill's only redeeming quality, Brick Break, was key here. The Dewgongs were finished by Brick Break and Pin Missile for Jynx. The rest were defeated by Kadabra.

BRUNO
Persian's Bite and Dig took out his Onix, then Beedrill and Kadabra finished the fighters.

AGATHA
Kadabra was made for stopping Gengars. And it did, with one Psychic apiece. It actually swept Agatha.

LANCE
A bloody war was fought against Lance. Lacking any Ice or Rock attacks, my Pokemon had to endure all of the horrible Outrages and Wing Attacks. If this really is the Game of Life, then this would be the defining moment of my digital pieces of data's lives. 30 Restores and Revives later, my Pokemon came out on top.

Securing a victory against Lance put me in position to win this one. Let's get to it!

CHAMPION GARY
Persian battled with Pidgeot, winning.
Kadabra Shock Waved Gyarados.
Beedrill fought Rhydon, three Brick breaks were needed.
Arcanine went down after Persian's Dig and Return.
Alakazam was bested by my Kadabra.
Kadabra stayed out, and struck Venusaur with a single Psychic for the championship.

That's it, that's all. The Game of Life is over. I'll decide to retire in Vermilion City because I love that place.
