Gaming Motivation (or lack of)

We've all been there before. An entire backlog full of unfinished and sometimes even unplayed games, yet absolutely no interest in touching any of them. I've bought a handful of games over the last two weeks or so, including some big games like Final Fantasy XIV and Monster Hunter Rise, and I can't bring myself to even load them up.

How do you guys find your motivation for gaming? Does a nice long walk to clear the head bring back the urge to play some vidya? Or a good book? I know for me, sometimes (even though I shouldn't) reading the beginning of a plot for a video game will inspire me to play it, because that way I know I'm not wasting my time on a story I don't care for.

I like to pick out 5 or more games out of my backlog every year and work towards completing them, I kind of set a challenge for myself and that helps motivate me. I also use a site to keep track of games on my backlog, games I'm playing, ones I've completed etc. I pick ones that I happen to be really into the characters, story, world etc at the moment so I'll be more likely to play more. Like this year I'm really getting back into everything Pokémon and enjoying it a lot so I'm playing a lot of those games. I'm also loving The Witcher series (Netflix) so one of the games I'm playing is The Witcher 3. I also like to pick spooky games for the Autumn/Halloween season, so I'm going to be trying to beat Luigi's Mansion 3 around next October. Another thing I do is listen to gaming podcasts related to the things I play and watch YouTube videos about them, keeps me interested.

I always have motivation somehow, whether it be hitting the highest rank, hunting down that one particular part of gear with the perfect roll, slamming some nerds down with birds or cybernetic dragons.
then again my backlog is miniscule cause I haven't bought many games lately and just put full focus on the ones that I mainly play.

I have no idea - I don't really play games because nothing seems to entice me much enough to boot it up these days ;; If you find out the secret, let me know.

I also am guilty of this :3 Halloween month is spooky gaming month, this year I'm going to finally give Resident Evil 1 - 8 a good crack! I nearly finished 8 before my ex stole it, and I've gotten halfway in 3make, this is a very good idea!~

I try to listen to gaming podcasts, and while I'm at work they get me super hyped for getting home and gaming, and then I get home and sit on my PC for a few hrs procrastinating which games I should play until it's either time to go to bed, or I've only got enough time to play half an hour of a game and I don't really get into it. :(

Slamming down nerds with birds or cybernetic dragons sounds absolutely amazing and I need to know what game you are referring too! :fufu:

As soon as I find the hidden technique I will share it with you <3

My steam backlog is ridiculous lol
Doesn't help I'm pretty much just playing games on the Switch atm.

For me, if I don't want to play the game, it probably won't happen.
I only play games when I feel like playing them. And Pokemon is currently hogging my attention =p
