Mew cannot be obtained in Fire red without the use of a cheat device.
you can
Hack mew into the PC box or use an encouter modifier code.
OR You can use the cheat so you have the necessary Item and event trigger to go catch mew yourself

You can only get Mew in Emerald, on Faraway Island from the help of a Nintendo Event in which they give you a ticket for the ferry. It cannot be gotten legitimately in Fire Red.

There was something about catching mew in the cerulean cave when you pass the elite 4 twelve times but I already have done that and it didn't appear me so I think it is a fake but you can try if you want.

This is a bit off topic, but I remember there being a cheat for red/blue that you stop the S.S.Anne from leaving and later after elite 4 you go back and surf near the ship and find mew...? Is that true or do I remember wrong..? O.o

Nope, I tried that.

I did get Mew with another glitch, but I don't exactly remember it.

I only know part of it was to open the start menu EXACTLY when some certain trainer has the exclamation point above his head (meaning he wants to battle), and then fly to Lavender town, then go some certain way and Mew will appear.. it actually worked, too. >_>

It cannot be gotten legitimately in Fire Red.

Actually, I have one legit in my FireRed game. Nintendo partnered with Toys "R" Us for a Mew "giveaway". If you went to a Toys "R" Us, you could stand in line for a while to get a Mew traded to your game. And yes, you actually had to give up one of your own Pokemon to receive the Mew. But that's the only legit way to get a Mew on FireRed. Other people have covered how to get a legit Mew onto the other third generation games.

xD I just Sharked Mew onto my old Blue game. Fun times, that was.

i think i tried the s.s. anne one years ago and it worked... O.o I think you had to beat elite 4 several times in a row and then fly to s.s. anne... ^^' well, I don't know... lol

To do the gambeler trick,go to the underground path entrance(Be sure to save here!saving the middle disrupts the trick!)walk one step down and open the menu befor he sees you.then fly away to the area with nugget bridge,then fight the boy with slowpoke.Dont walk up to him or your game will lock up!let him come to to you.(also,here you will not be able to use your menu from the gambler to this kid.He is east on nugget bridge.after winning with him you can accses the menu again.)Now fly to lavender town and walk onto route 8(Where this starts.)as you enter the narrow path of route eight,the menu will pop up.hit be and,Duhn Duhn Duhn,theres mew,lvl7!with only the move pound!pokeball go!(This trick only works once in red and blue,you can only battle mr. mew making youngster once.)

Why it works:the programmars madre the mistake of including mew in the games hex chart,doing the gambler part unlocks mews hex(Theoreticly)and the youngsters slow pokes hex matches mews hex,causing mew to appear!This cheat also works with other trainers whos vision area puts you in there visio just as to step on screen.battling them will also make other pokemon appear,mew only works once.i think one makes a tauros...

The Mew glitch works on Blue, Red, and Yellow. I have Mew in my blue, red, and yellow versions. I really don't think though you can do the glitch on the newly made FireRed or LeafGreen version.

 

[Always and Never]

The truck at the S.S. Anne has no purpose. How Mew got intertwined with it gives me no idea why.

Yeah, event pokemon are hard to get a hold of.
