    This thread made me think "asking what gender Ash's Pikachu is would be a better question".
    Better or not, I've certainly not seen this asked before. Pikachu (and in fact any other Pokemon) has always been referred to by "it", and I noticed this quickly.

    So yes, do you think it is male, female, a hermaphrodite (both), or genderless?


    I originally just defaulted to male and didn't really care, but since I thought about it once a few years ago I've seen it as female.

    I always saw it as male, but people argue both ways...
     
    Seems male to me, especially with the interest he seemed to have in girls at the start of Kanto.
     
    In the Japanese version of when the pokémon had a episode with subtitles, I heard that Pikachu used suggestive phrases to indicate he's male. So I guess he's male.
     
    Oh lol. Still, I don't watch the anime, only did a bit ages ago; just thought this poll would be interesting for people. x3
     
    Well, I think Pikachu's male. Mostly because of the whole tail thing......you know, in Sinnoh female Pikahu have that heart shape at the end of their tail?

    Pikachu is male. ;)
    Here's my reasons...

    1. In D/P, female Pikachu's have different tail thingy.
    2. In the Sinnoh episodes, when Ash and co. helped those ladies with a Miltank, Ash and Pikachu wore maid's clothes, and Pikachu was embarrased.
    3. Buneary was confirmed to be a girl. And Buneary had a crush on Pikachu, so...

    ;)
     
    Like Time said, Buneary has a crush and Pikachu and is female, so Pikachu must be male.
     
    I personally like to think of Pikachu as female and that whole Mimirol crush being subtle homosexuality that the writeres snuck in. It makes the show more interesting that way and it makes the whole PikachuxAsh friendship cuter, kind of like AAML but even more intimate.

    As for Pikachu's official gender, I don't think they have confirmed it. I heard once that they made Pikachu androgynous so more people could relate to it.

    Well guys theres alot of evidence pointing towards both genders so we need to contact Pokemon about this or something.

    I personally thought male because females have indents in their tails, but that wasnt introduced until like 3rd gen so they might of just not bothered changing it if it was female.

    Also me and my friend are in agreement that Pikachu is a pimp.
     
    hmmmmmmm.......well, you can't really use the indented tail as proof either way. imagine, if you will:

    *Pikachu steps over the border to sinnoh, and suddenly, it tail glows and changes shape. cue the sweatdrops*

    but, buneary is confrmed female and i doubt they'd want lesbians in Pokemon.
     
    Pikachu could be a lesbien for all you know. And yeah, im sure they wouldnt mind editing his/her tail if Pikachu was female.

    Since Pikachu started off as a fat yellow blob and now he's toned down in colour and lost weight because Ash neglects him and only Brock feeds him tbh.

    Good point though, i didn't know Buneary was confirmed female.
     
    Yeah, but considering its not really been posted on for a while + i didn't really notice it because of the irrelivant title i don't think it really matters.

    Also, we have the option that Pikachu is indeed a pimp.
