For those that don't know, Google was denying having an IM program in the works. They released one yesterday, apparently, while my net connection was down. You do need a Gmail account, but just post in the Gmail invitations thread for an invite.

After you get it and try it out, tell people what you think about it. I'll have to install it later, after I get back from work.

    Edit:
Ok, since the Google Talk client only works for people with the Windows NT series (2000, NT, XP), I'll put how to get into it via other means using the other "Jabber" IM clients. You cannot, however, use the Voice Chat in anything but the Google Talk client. For the official word, here's the link:

    https://www.google.com/talk/otherclients.html

All platforms (Windows, Mac OS X, Linux):

    Psi Jabber Client:
    Download- https://psi.affinix.com/
    Setup Instructions- https://www.google.com/support/talk/bin/answer.py?answer=24074

    GAIM:
    Download- https://gaim.sourceforge.net/
    Setup Instructions- https://www.google.com/support/talk/bin/answer.py?answer=24073

Windows (95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP) Only: You have a choice of these fine clients:

    Miranda IM:
    Download- https://www.miranda-im.org/
    Setup Instructions- https://www.google.com/support/talk/bin/answer.py?answer=24885

    Trillian Pro:
    Download- https://www.trillian.cc (Costs $25 USD)
    Setup Instructions- https://www.google.com/support/talk/bin/answer.py?answer=24077

    Mac OS X Only:

    iChat:
    (Included with OS X)
    Setup Instructions- https://www.google.com/support/talk/bin/answer.py?answer=24076

    Adium:
    Download- https://www.adiumx.com/
    Setup Instructions- https://www.google.com/support/talk/bin/answer.py?answer=24075

I can personally suggest GAIM, being that I use it myself in Windows XP.

I haven't used it yet, but being from Google, there's a high percentage that it'll be cool and good. I'm going to play with it some later.
Also, I like your avatar, Yame~TD. It's nice that someone else here likes TWiT other than me.

I was excited about this and looking forward to today, but apparently I can't use it because it requires Windows 2000 or higher =/

    It works now! =0

You're not missing much Kaga ;) It's like the worst IM program you could get XD No pic, no timestamp, no text formatting except bold, nada.

But I believe it's more of a "VoiP + messaging" thing...

I'm [email protected] What are your emails? =)

I actually have three gmail accounts right now (will have four this week), but the one I use the most is [email protected]... if you say it's not that exciting then that makes me feel a lot better XD Hopefully the non-beta version will be for 98, which is what I have (but I often forget because I have XP Office Desktop =p)

Ooh, yes, my friend just told me about this. He said that it's simpler than Windows Messenger, but it's good. I think I may decide to try this, as google rocks! <3

That's why it's called "Google Talk"

If you can get a Jabber client, such as GAIM, I beleive you can do the same thing. Unfourtunately, the voice only works with Google Talk.

I''m putting more info on how to access the Google Talk servers for IM convos in the first post. You can't use voice without the GT client, though.
