Greenlit: Gotta Catch them All: Event Pokemon and Rarity

    Hi,

I would like to write an article about why certain pokemon are rare and how to obtain them based on my experience. Some examples of rare pokemon which might be discussed include shiny mew, hidden ability gen 4 creation trio, an event chansey with the illegal move wish or the munchlax distributed in gen 7 with event only moves.

I won't be talking about an event which could be super rare like a shiny pikachu which was only distributed to 5 people as one can obtain a shiny pikachu in game. What I would talk about is a shiny pikachu which knows moves it wouldn't normally know such as extreme speed as one cannot legally obtain a shiny pikachu with this move. I will also not discuss pokemon that know transfer only moves from generation 3 and 4 move tutors. I also won't be discussing things like finding a spinda with the exact same spot pattern.

The parameters I will use to discuss rarity are as follows:
    • Mythical Pokemon
    • Illegal moves from Events
    • Event only moves
    • Shiny Locks
    • Shiny and/or Hidden Ability Events
    • Generation and location of an event distribution
    • Type of event distribution (Pokemon obtained by code are rarer most of the time)
I would like to end it with a short list of top 10 rare pokemon or maybe make a tier list.

Then I would write a short conclusion about why collecting rare pokemon is fun.

    Ok, so regarding this:

I would potentially start by generally covering exactly what quantifies as a rare/Event Pokémon and why they are different to say, a Shiny Pokémon.

Will you be looking to go into detail about what some of your categories are? For example, it might be worth explaining what things such as Shiny Locks and HA Events are.

Otherwise, I am very much intrigued and you've seen to have put a fair bit of thought into this. I will give this my approval and wait for one more before we can get the ball rolling.

well i'm thinking of focusing mostly on event pokemon as these are the rarest types of pokemon. u can get some really gimmicky rare pokemon like the same pattern spinda or a shiny version of that lvl 10 salamence u can catch in sun/moon. i'm just trying to think of how to word exactly what i'm going to explore.

yes i plan to go into detail about what's shiny locked and how to obtain shiny versions of shiny locked pokemon. i'll even go into detail about the types of event distributions such as code or mystery gift.

I'm wondering if this would make more sense as a series than a single article because it looks like it'll include a lot of information.

hm... it might not work as a series if the info is split. i think it should all fit into one article. but if not we can decide that later?

Sounds like a decent idea and the above questions seem sufficiently resolved. Second approval, so good to start writing!

Check the Editor Workshop subforum for your thread! I just copied your OP.

Also, PM me or Jake an email, desired username (can't be changed!) and nickname (can be changed and is how you're labelled as an author) for a WordPress Daily account for you. We make those for fancier author credit and allow you to see the final draft in WP form if desired.

No deadline! Not a time-sensitive article after all. Write at your leisure. Just be sure to bump the thread when a draft is ready for us to proofread and edit.
