I've run into what is a pretty game-breaking issue with my phone, and I'm hoping someone else here has encountered and been able to fix it.

I'm on a Samsung Galaxy Core, everything is up to date.
The problem is that whenever I turn off the screen, the GPS also shuts off. This means I can't encounter any Pok?mon unless I leave my screen on all the time, and that's not a feasible option since that just ravages my phone's battery life.

I've looked through the options and settings for Pok?mon Go, Location Services, and Battery Use but I cannot find an option to leave GPS on when the screen goes off.
And yes, I've Googled it, but I don't get any results for my phone model and the answers for similar phones haven't panned out for me.

    pls help ;-;

(this thread isn't out of place here, is it?)

Hmm... my iPhone always does that. If the app isn't up and currently displayed on the screen, then it's running in a dormant mode and no new Pokemon appear. Whenever I bring the app back up it nearly always has to reidentify my gps and update itself.

Long story short, I believe you have to be actually interacting with the app on most phones for the app to run. Unless other people are having a different experience? Perhaps my settings are just poorly adjusted, but my playing experience is similar to yours.

It is KILLER on your battery life, but those are the costs unfortunately. ):

Nope it's not just you! I too have an iPhone and it's always done that unfortunately. Same with my friends in the beta who had samsung phones :c

Also it kills iPhone more than any android phone which really sucks >_<

So I'm not the only one dealing with GPS problems? Great. I'm playing on an iPod Touch Gen 5 though so I expected some GPS troubles since the GPS on the iPod is spotty , but it's worse than I expected.

It's a real shame, but I guess it's just the way it is.
Gonna take forever to hatch these eggs I got...

I have a weird issue. Near my place is a park along a river, and it's a sort of black spot in that the GPS refuses to place me within it. This is annoying because it has some PokeStops.

However... there is one place I found where it places me on the other side of the river. Said river has 3 PokeStops, and often seems to have Lures set up on it. So I can just sit there and watch the trainer move haphazardly around between those places thanks to the glitchy GPS. :V

Sadly you can't run this program in the background without the go+ accessory. The only thing that might help is the battery saver setting. It will darken the screen when the phone is held upside down(for example in your pocket), but it has never vibrated it my pocket at all. Maybe because the screen touches my legg, but it is kinda annoying that when I reach a familiar pokestop I suddenly see some pok?mons and then they are gone. The vibrations need some work.

Vibrations being sucky would be your phone and not the app most likely, since the app always vibrates upon encounter. But yeah, as everyone has already confirmed no locking your phone without the go+ I'm afraid, and even then I'm unsure if it still counts steps etc. Makes the Go+ seem worthwhile now...

I thought about the Go Plus, but doesn't it just receive information from your phone via bluetooth? So if my phone refuses to keep the GPS active when the screen is off, then there will be no information to send to the Go Plus in the first place.

Or am I misinformed about the Go Plus's functionality?

That may very well be the case, in which case it's not worth it, but you'd have thought an accessory costing $40 would actually give some benefits over the app alone aside from more recognisable vibrations...

I was having the same problem you need to turn off the lock screen and turn on power save mode in the game so when you put the phone upside down it goes black. but its still running and you can catch pokemon

Maybe you need to put it in high accuracy mode?
