Hiya there! I'm FishyTaco (have at that with a good laugh or two, a lot of my usernames consist of adjectives followed by random food). I'm in love with the XY anime series (subbed, not dubbed) and I'm even moreso in love with writing Fanfiction on Pokemon. It's nice to be a part of this forum and nice to meet all of those that reply to my thread!
A question I'll probably get is what kind of fanfics about Pokemon do I write. And an answer to that question is- well, I generally write a lot. I usually stick with drama-filled adventure stories. But I'd be lying if I said I hadn't tried my hand at a lot of other genres. Adventure seems to the one I've stuck with the most over the years. What got me into writing was a love for the anime and games growing up (I wasn't fortunate enough to read the manga until much later in my high school years). I grew up with the anime and games, but as I got older and more seasoned with life and other TV shows that were more mature and raw, such as Breaking Bad, House M.D., Call the Midwife, Law and Order: SVU, I began to think, "Well why can't Pokemon be like that?" I soon found out the answer to that was because it was aimed at a young audience. Suddenly, the earlier anime, like Kanto and Johto, turned quite cheesy for me. Now, I never stopped loving the anime or anything, but I grew tired of it because it felt repetitive, and of course, for the fact that it often did not deal with things that were extremely serious or even that mature.
So I focused my writing on combining reality, elements from other shows, and Pokemon together to create the mature setting I desperately hungered for. And I must say, with a story of mine called "Thorns" that is essentially a rewritten version of the Pokemon Red, Blue and Green manga, I'm pleased with what I'm doing. That story draws in elements from the manga, anime, and games, while bumping things up to a mature setting. Team Rocket is now the evil crime and business syndicate that I felt they could have been. Even Jessie and James are a huge threat. There's a ton of corruption, and it hits the people you'd least expect. And sometimes sheer will, the power of friendship, and combining strength with your friends and allies, won't work. Sometimes the reality is in that moment, you're completely and utterly powerless against your enemy. Sometimes it takes more than just a few kids with magical creatures to change things.
If any of you would like to read my work, let me know and I'll post a link to my profile and to this form (if that's allowed).
