[GT Challenge] • Baton Pass 2.0

My last two segments (well, eleventh and twelwth) were two Hall of Fame runs! Two runs where I was MASSIVELY underleveled and was either blessed by the AI or narrowly avoided knock out hits by some sort of crazy stat coincidences.

⚪⚪⚪ First Hall of Fame, StarstruckFlora's Pearl!
After a lot of meddling around, grinding, and going through the Victory Road, I assembled a team consisting of the starter Empoleon, Bronzong, Abomasnow, Luxray, Mesprit, and Steelix. Yes, the demon known as Mesprit was caught in a Master Ball - multiple times actually - until I was lucky enough to find a Quiet one. That's a nature that decreases Speed, so I could use that Mesprit despite its base 80 Speed.

Mesprit and Luxray decimated the local fishermen population and gained quite a lot of levels fighting off Gyarados, the rest of the team gained some levels with the Exp. Share but not enough to be up there with that pair. I entered the league quite underleveled and made my way through with item spam and such, but I had some pretty nice moments, such as Abomasnow sweeping Cynthia near the end, a Psychic mirror match where Mesprit handled most of Lucian's Pokémon, and... yeah. Garchomp throwing the game instead of attacking my Pokémon with strong moves.

Team:
- Mesprit, lv. 59, Extrasensory, Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball, Toxic
- Luxray, lv. 57, Spark, Discharge, Crunch, Roar
- Bronzong, lv. 51, Gyro Ball, Extrasensory, Trick Room, Rain Dance
- Empoleon, lv. 54, Surf, Flash Cannon, Ice Beam, Grass Knot
- Abomasnow, lv. 54, Blizzard, Wood Hammer, Ice Shard, Ingrain
- Steelix, lv. 48, Fire Fang, Earthquake, Crunch, Rock Slide

🔥🔥🔥 Second Hall of Fame, my own White2 save!
I ended up changing every member of the team in this case, some right away, some a bit later. I added Emboar in the team straight away and despite the level disadvantage, it was very helpful even in the beginning of the segment, when I was still dealing with the Plasma Frigate and the Seaside Cave. By the time I reached the Giant Chasm, however, I was able to change the team quite a lot already. It felt well balanced, Victory Road was not that much of a struggle even if by this point playing so much Pokémon with slow Pokémon was starting to wear me down... but then I realized one specific problem.

Shauntal's Chandelure hit every Pokémon of my team for super effective damage... and that's a Pokémon you're meant to prepare for. I was only able to get past this Chandelure by making sure it would get sent out under a previously set Rain Dance, sending in Metagross, and nailing at least one Bulldoze to lower its Speed. Yes, I did get a Metagross in the Giant Chasm by the way - it's not the first time I pick one up during a challenge (see my very first iteration of the Lampent challenge when it was done in event form all the way in 2020) and I knew how strong it could be.

The other Elite 4 were easily dealt with... at least in comparison. Marshal was a Metagross sweep, Caitlin was basically a Bisharp sweep (another Pokémon from my challenge history) and Grimsley was a bit more complicated but... Emboar did well enough.

Now Iris... she was a big problem too. So many things could go wrong and set up a team sweep from her. This, to be fair, already happened with Colress before the Kyurem fight (I eventually handled that with Emboar and Metagross) and with Ghetsis (but that was a bit more manageable as well; Kyurem-white was dealt with by Metagross once again, with some help from other team members).

In the end, Tangrowth proved to be invaluable. I only brought Tangrowth along for being a Grass-type to complete a fire-water-grass core and add some defense, and defend it did, by taking an X-scissor from Iris's boosted Haxorus and surviving with 8 HP... just to get off a Bulldoze, because it was that important. Overall, Emboar deserves some praise too for handling Hydreigon and Aggron... but Metagross finished the battle off once again by dealing with Archeops and Lapras.

Jellicent was my rain setter and it did an alright job, especially considering its level. But the only real disappointment was Vanilluxe. Almost a worse Klinklang: no good moves except Ice Beam, well rounded stats but not good enough, no specific role to add to a team. At the very least, Vanilluxe was useful against some of Iris's Dragons, but... that was it. At least, I have to assume that keeping that Pokémon in the team for longer, getting some good levels and some good EVs on it, and finding some TM moves for it, would make it an alright choice. And that's the story of the challenge anyways, isn't it? Changing teams to adapt to different rules and working out ways to play together has been difficult, but also a lot of fun. Despite all of the issues, I am stubbornly proud of reaching the Hall of Fame with some of these Pokémon.

Team:
- Emboar, lv. 56, Flame Charge, Heat Crash, Head Smash, Hammer Arm
- Metagross, lv. 56, Thunder Punch, Meteor Mash, Zen Headbutt, Bulldoze
- Jellicent, lv. 52, Rain Dance, Surf, Hex, Will-o-wisp
- Vanilluxe, lv. 51, Ice Beam, Toxic, Acid Armor, Light Screen
- Bisharp, lv. 56, Night Slash, Iron Head, Rock Tomb, Metal Sound
- Tangrowth, lv. 52, Giga Drain, Energy Ball, Toxic, Bulldoze

And here's some pics :)

Janp's Baton Pass Challenge - Segment 7

For my next and final segment, since I won't finish any more, I got Loomie's White 2 save.

And because of some complications going on in my city, I got stucked without electricity for a day, so I could only pay for a short amount of time.

Luckily, I didn't have to change my team, since all of them were of different colour.

So I quickly solved the frozen city problem, skipped most of the routes here and dashed to Marlon.

I had Magnezone on my team. Good. It's severely underleveled. Bad. I had bunch of Revives and Hyper Potions. Good.

And so, I switched between using Volt Switch, healing and/or reviving. And sometimes I also tried to use other Pokémon, but this was mostly Magnezone solo show.

Save Swap Challenge - Magma Grunt Soleil
Pokemon Sapphire - Badge 7 (Tate & Liza)
Segment 5 (Route 120 -> Mossdeep Gym)

Short update, today. My predecessors cheesed Rare Candies to grind Altaria and Exploud up a ton of levels. The two of them 1HKOed everything except the Gym Leaders' Lunatone, which survived a Shock Wave from Exploud, set Calm Mind as its only turn, and was 2HKOed. I had other Pokemon in my party, but as they never saw battle this segment, they aren't listed.

(Chr. Draco should have an update between EoT's and mine)

Pokémon Sapphire - E4
Segment 6, I just went from Sootopolis to E4. I went to Fallarbor in between to get Quick Attack on Sceptile to get 3 mons that know a priority move (Breloom, Taillow, Sceptile).
Then I just swept E4 with Exploud and Altaria.

Team: Magma
Class: Gambler
Restriction: During any Boss Battle, you must use the same move three times with a Pokémon before being able to select another one.
Save: My white save
Segment: 7/13 Opalucid --> Ghetsis

After a ton of grinding and repeatedly battling the elite 4 and ghetsis (N was a cake walk surprisingly) I've finally finished my save, as well as the last save Team Magma needs to complete! All that's left is to wait for Team Aqua to finish up. Best of luck to Explorer or Time as he finishes their last- I mean screw Team Aqua! Team Magma best team! (Nah but seriously, gl Explorer)

The Baton Pass 2.0 Challenge is now complete! Team Magma won with 722 points to Aqua's 541 points, giving Magma 160 GT points and Aqua 120 GT points.

Both teams had an exemplary performance and every save file in this challenge has been completed prior to the deadline, with Aqua scoring 77 points per player and Magma scoring 80!

Congratulations to the winners Devalue, DragonEye, Eleanor, Janp, LeGoldenWolf, Mewtwolover, StarstruckFlora, TenthCompanion, and Wolf and to my fellow runners-up Arcaneum, Chr. Draco, CoolKid575, Jbsundown, kpac_xjinx, and 5qwerty!

Thank you all for your participation and I hope to see you all again in next year's GT Challenge!

Save Swap Challenge - Magma Grunt Soleil
Pokemon X - Finale
Segment 6 (Victory Road -> Pokemon League)

Now that the conclusion is done I have time to write up my final update for this challenge. I went through Victory Road, with detours in Route 22 and Terminus Cave for critical items (Earthquake and Shadow Ball TMs and a Dusk Stone to evolve my Doublade), and fought Calem, the Elite Four, Diantha, and AZ.

Drasna: Delphox set up three Calm Minds, 1HKOed Dragalge and Altaria with Psyshock, and 2HKOed Noivern. Then she nearly KOed Druddigon and fainted it with Rocky Helmet damage while simultaneously fainting to a physical attack.

Siebold: Gardevoir set up four Calm Minds, and healed twice due to Water Pulse confusion, then 1HKOed his entire team.

Malva:

Diantha:

AZ: Roserade was sent out first and was burned and badly hurt by Torkoal's Lava Plume. He still 2HKOed Torkoal with Venoshock, and nearly KOed Sigilyph with a Shadow Ball before fainting. Delphox finished off Sigilyph, and nearly KOed Golurk with Grass Knot. I used an X Defense to blunt the blow of a Phantom Force and let Rocky Helmet recoil KO Golurk.

TY hosts for the event, it's been super fun seeing this come back NOW PLEASE DON'T REMOVE IT EVER AGAIN
Oh, we're definitely starting up a Baton Pass 3.0 someday. Now, I can't say when it'll happen, and it probably won't be the very next GT Challenge, but keep your eyes peeled.

Couldn't post earlier cuz it was very late for me and I was so sleepy I had my eyes covered in mucus, then I slacked the whole day today- finally, now I decided to do it before this gets archived lol.

Well it was pretty marvelous getting to do last segment of Emerald, for I haven't really ever completed it before (Exploud solo run doesn't count, I like full team :( )

Caught a Sharpedo and used it cuz TEAM AQUA RULES!

Ngl though, I prefer Steven being the Champion, Wallace...was just better off being a gym leader. Oh well. I think the screenshots will say the rest for me, quite a lot of them (hope this ain't illegal to post). But yah loved it. Almost every pokemon solo'D a member of the Pokemon League. Yah, almost. Breloom took out the first, psychic type E4. Sharpedo (Hail Team Aqua) took down the next Elite 4 member, who was a dark type trainer. Glacia got solo'd by Manectric while Azumarill, with a bit of help from my Dragon Claw Sceptile, solo'd Drake for the most part with Rollout+Ice beam. And then, Wallace got almost solo'd by Sceptile for except Swellow being a sac swap (yay it had a part in the victory too), and Manectric taking down Tentacruel before going down itself. Was very fun, though I always HATED how Wally was literally treated and made like a better rival than our main rival (May and whatever her counterpart is), becoming goofy/unserious about battle/ a dex filler. And ya can't take your sweet rival (unlike Blue who was a Tsundere/arrogant) to the Hall of Fame either :( sadge
Loving playing Baton Pass, all my love to Arcaneum, Jbsundown, 5qwerty, Coolkid and Chr.Draco for entrusting me with the Baton!
Special thanks to Explorer of Time, who also passed the Baton to me while being a host and helpful guide simultaneously, as well as Duchess Eleanor who also hosted the event alonf with EoT, while also being an EXCELLENT rival (sublimal diss to our in-game RSE rival) and more importantly inspiration to my theme this GT! Hope to catch ya all later, this event was the most fun because I don't have brains, I only have muscles- even inside my head!
Catch ya all later~
